First things first, I don't want to have to advertise, but if this does come off like an advertisement I do apologise in advance.
Okay, let me back up.
My name is WintermintP. In some rhythm game communities I'm also known as 31Wyntie. I play lead guitar in the band One Minute Winter. We have two other members but I'm the only one that's been active since COVID due to the other members having been forced to find additional jobs to sustain themselves in the lockdown (and they haven't kept in touch since). The band has been active for at least six or seven years at this point and we have already released like, 400+ tracks. We already have ten full-length albums out and we're working on our eleventh which is set to release December 2023.
A friend of mine that I've known for years has asked my band to fly all the way from Canada to Germany to play this one festival in a club in Berlin. Lots of rock/metal bands are going to be there, which is nice, but I have been searching for new members to replace the current ones that are inactive right now and this came up in the middle of it so I'm forced to scramble even more in an already-hectic (and unfair for obvious reasons) environment. This is where many would ask why I can't play the set alone, and to that I have to say that one, it defeats the point of trying to make it a band the way I've been hoping to, and two, the original intent of the entire project was so that I learn the ins and outs of being in a band and playing together as a band and being a team player and everything.
As the title suggests, the event is two or three years away, but that's still rather last-minute in my book. Just to give you an idea how much time a seasoned band/organisation actually needs for things, the 2019 Super Bowl took four years to prepare, and that's only counting food.
The organisers probably took four or more years to prepare for the particular festival but they probably haven't considered the fact that I need just as much time to prepare the necessary rig and other equipment to prepare for the event as well. So we've already ended up with the short end of the stick right from the beginning. I already asked for more time to the organisers and this contact of mine to no avail. The friend of mine is leaving his position after those three years are up. Again, completely unfair, but it's our only opportunity to get the band on the map, so beggars can't be choosers. Eugh.
So I have to find a bandmate last minute and have to rehearse with them and actually meet them at the Weisse Rose in Germany and do this festival, but why am I posting it here?
Due to having to look for traditional bandmates being literally impossible in North America due to the music scene here being in complete shambles, I opted to bring up an alternative that I thought of for years. The plan is to chart my band's songs into the osu game and recruit a "game jockey" as the bandmate who would operate what's essentially the game as the other instrument. It would play the backing track and provide additional visuals. So we'd be essentially playing our songs through the game and guitar simultaneously. Now the question is how I'm going to go about that, which I wanted to ask here. Thankfully I've charted a couple songs for osu before so I know what to expect and I can account for the jockey's skill level as well, and I've been studying osu charts for a year and a half now. And if we have internet available for the festival, we should be able to pull up even more songs and go as far as add some Camellia songs in the set and play a Miku classic for encore (not that rhythm game communities actually like Vocaloid, but the contact of mine is also the head honcho of Berlin's Vocaloid fanclub so it'll get us in his and the organisers' good graces).
I'm probably going to need two "game jockey" members. One of them is going to be at the Berlin event, playing the actual songs on osu (with Relax mod, of course!) and the other is also going to play the actual songs on osu, but in a remote setting for regular livestreams.
So here are the three questions at hand.
1. How am I going to be able to go about recruiting the said game jockeys? I need one for the Berlin festival and the other for regular livestreams. The livestreams are going to be set up as if we were all quarantined. Hopefully.
2. For the "quarantine" livestreams how are we going to go about syncing the game to the guitar and make sure there is no latency between? We probably need to make sure we are actually playing live and none of the shows, "quarantine" or festival, are actually pre-recorded.
3. For the festival itself, how should we go about setting up the live rig? I know that we need a computer for the game, and then for the guitar we have the Axe-FX and the Precision Drive pedal for boost (it'll be always on because I can't get a good guitar tone otherwise), and we have a bunch of PDB DI boxes available to make sure that the engineer doesn't accidentally kill our equipment with phantom power. I also have an interface for the computer. I'm going to have to bring my headphone amp in case I need to practice or something though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I should also note in addition that I have been playing this game before back in like, 2011-2012 when there were some noteworthy big hits that released on osu (e.g. Gangnam Style), I think? I wound up making a new account, but I have to reiterate that I'm not actually new to the game.
