Raising BPM for mapping

New mapper here, and I apologize if this was asked previously, I've got a 70bpm song, but I want to be able to put notes on the half/quarter/etc.. notes. Is it bad practice to bump it up to, for half and quarter notes for example, 140 bpm so I could map those or does it not really matter so long as it's properly mapped and synced to the song?

that's what the beatsnap divisor is for, 1/2 is eighth notes, 1/3 is triplet eighths, 1/4 is sixteenth notes, 1/8 is 32nds, etc. The white ticks (1/1) are the quarter note beats.

shouldn't need to double bpm to map the rhythms, though it could be that the song was always 140bpm to begin with, 70 is pretty slow.

Ah must've overlooked that, since I'm still not very acquainted with the lazer editor, thank you; also I can confirm the song is in 70bpm as I'm friends with the artist.
