New PS3 update is live. PSN is coming back up very, very soon. Time for things to get back to the status quo.

Edit: Or at least, you know, some of it is back. The Store isn't back yet, which kinda sucks cause Honest Hearts for Fallout is coming out on Tuesday. Also, my LA Noire DLC needs the Store.

Waiting ~2 weeks for sycning my PSN with Steam was worth the weight wait.

I wonder when Australia will get PSN back up and running... all I've seen is a firmware update that hasn't done anything yet :(

Knowing our track record though, we'll be after every other region.

America's turned on. Europe's next. Austrailia's third followed by New Zealand, then the Middle East. Every country should be connected by the end of the month apparently.

Wow I can get Wipeout for free? That basically counterbalances the outage for me XD

I guess inFAMOUS is good too.

Oh~ Look whats back in action~ :3

Hmm, of the five free games, I own 2 and was only interested in one other, so:

Dead Nation, or Super Stardust HD? I'll have to find out what either of those are, but Dead Nation sure sounds like a zombie game.
Ivalset
I hear Super Stardust HD is an asteroids-type game.

Not sure what I'm going to get yet, but I am sure I'm not going to get LBP. Though I do have a few accounts on my ps3 so maybe I can just get the other four.

I'll probably just get Dead Nation and Super Stardust HD. No point in letting a giveaway go to waste. If I were more into racing, I might get Wipeout HD.

Anyway, I just picked up LA Noire and they have this reeeally neat thing. There's this Badge Pursuit challenge that came with my copy. There's this envelope in the game box that has these 7 photograph negative film strip thingies that basically show you where each badge is in the game. That's such a neat way of doing a scavenger hunt.

I'll just wait until Media Go is back online in Australia. If it goes back online.

Just learned the hard way that LA Noire doesn't autosave (the only way to save) as often as I would like. Just spent hours last night trying to find some really annoying and elusive cars just to have my progress not fucking save.

So I beat LA Noire yesterday. That's probably one of the best games I've ever played. Totally worth the $60.

Anyway, I thought the Store would be back today, but apparently that's not gonna happen. Should be up before June though.
Ivalset
Yeah.

I wish I had more to say in this thread. But that store needs to go up.

There's a wizardry game coming out over PSN that I've been craving for a few weeks and its been held up in all this bullshit.

Haven't heard one. I assumed it's going to be cheap, but I could be in for a huge surprise, now that I think about it.

In other news, finally got back on track with my Persona 3 Portable solo Maniac run. It's slowly getting to the point where I think the bosses are getting easier to deal with now that I have more options to deal with them.

Also, I've never been so reliant on attack spell gems before.

The crappy thing about that is even when the PS Store goes back up, you'll still probably have to wait until they eventually release the game. Cause they're not gonna just release everything we've missed all at once.
Ivalset
Yeah, apparently they're releasing twice a week or some shit until they get caught up.

Oh well, EU version of White Knight Chronicles 2 is coming soon as well, and I'll probably end up importing that.

Just gotta be patient...
awp
White Knight Chronicles good? I've seen it in Microplay for 20 used, which is a small price to pay for something if it's good
Ivalset
Uhh, the first one is questionable. It has some good elements but some serious flaws. The sequel looks to be significantly better in every way, and it will also include the entire first game on the disc (with all the gameplay improvements of the sequel).

Honestly, just from the gameplay improvements they've made in the sequel, I could confidently say that WKC2 will be an absolutely amazing game for online multiplayer (which is the meat of the game).

I wouldn't recommend playing WKC1 now unless you just want to get your feet wet, and I certainly wouldn't advise spending any money to do that. Either wait for the NA release which is slated for August, or import the EU release sometime in early June. Since it's very focused on multiplayer, it's one of those games that's much better to get into near release. That said, there was still a decent online community in WKC1 a year after its release, and you don't even need that many people to be able to fully experience WKC.

I'll also note that the singleplayer campaign is pretty unremarkable. It's really just a springboard to get you ready for online play. The singleplayer campaign is something like 20-30 hours of play. Finishing everything on online could easily take you 300-500 hours depending on your efficiency (it's a huge grind, but a huge fun multiplayer grind).

It scratches a similar itch that PSO does, except that instead of hunting for red boxes you're hunting for crafting materials to upgrade your shit. Though apparently in WKC2 you can find weapon drops as well, so...

Whatever, fuck. Just wait for WKC2 if anything.

Edit: I forgot, there's also a psp game coming out in early june I think, that might also be a decent way of figuring out if you might be interested in WKC2. I haven't played it yet though so I can't really attest to that. It might be awful.

See, this is plenty good information for me: I don't like playing games online.

God dammit that Disgaea 4 trailer makes the game look amazing. Disgaea 3 looked like Disgaea, which was always good enough for me. I just like Disgaea games. But Disgaea 4 seems to have added a lot more polish to the visuals and then they shoveled in a fucktonne of additional content to an already obscenely bloated game.

Kind of sad they haven't added another digit to the level cap though. Base stats better not still cap at 10 million (or was it 20? I forget). I mean, 10M is a fair stretch higher than FF's 255ish (okay, so 13 let you go to around 4000, there was no "cap" there) but I just felt so disappointed when my high-powered equipment, in combination with aptitudes and resident multipliers, was being cut short. It'd be nice to have an indistinguishable cap, like FF13. But not a puny one, like FF13.

Yeah, I'll probably be picking up Nier and RDR at some point this summer as well. Lately I've been spending all my time with Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World though. It's not as good as the original, but it's good enough. It's also a bit harder than the original ever was. Some of the most random enemies are able to drain my health in less than 2 seconds sometimes. It kinda sucks that there's only two actual party members, and one of them suuuuucks.

I never really had trouble with getting killed by enemies like that, however one of the late bosses did that. Also, I played with my brother so I was stuck as Marta, I don't find her too bad though, and her Mystic Arte is great for random enemies.

Yeah, it's not my favorite by any means, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to rush out and buy it, but it's a decent enough fix for someone who hasn't played a Tales game in ages like me. The game gets a lot better the more you play it, cause you start out with shit moves and stuff. The good thing is that this game isn't nearly as long as the first one, so I should be able to get through it soon enough so I can start the real run with 10x EXP and all that GRADE stuff.

rust45 wrote:

I died in my very first non-tutorial battle. The bats in the cave could somehow kill me almost instantly. It took me a while to realize that I should get surrounded by enemies, which would always drain my health fast, and that I should just play Semi-Auto instead of Manual because I can't block/dodge for shit in this game. I could in ToS, but not here. Once I realized that juggling was pretty much the easiest way to not get hit, I stopped getting hurt so much. Also, I forgot about Quests until chapter 4, so I wasn't getting a lot of EXP.

They hacked a single website? Holy shit, yeah, these guys mean serious business. The entire fabric of Sony's network will be unraveled with the hacking of a few of their websites. Unless these guys permanently take down the PSN or something, they won't even bruise Sony's wallet.

Also, I wouldn't have expected the PSN to be turned back on until a Friday or Tuesday, so unless it doesn't get turned on by 7pm on 5/31, then they haven't broken their promise in my book. But even if they DO delay it again, it shouldn't be any surprise at all if you've been paying attention during the past month. I do wish they would've given some updates about when we should expect the store back though. I hate being told on the deadline date that shit's been delayed.

I'm not talking about those guys at all. I'm talking about the people who hacked that Japanese Sony site and are planning on doing another "Sony operation". I really don't think those guys are the same ones who fucked with the PSN, and as such, they aren't a big concern. The PSN attack was somewhat damaging to profits and reputation, but in a few months the internet will move on and these profits/reputations will return to the status quo.

Anyway, just finished up (my first playthrough of) Symphonia 2. Such a convoluted story. I can definitely see how this was a low-budget game, but whatever, man. It still feels awesome to beat some tough fight.

Someone questioned Super Stardust HD earlier. One of the first PSN games i bought, pretty kickass. Can only really enjoy it with a really large tv, 32" for example feels way too cramped. It is very pretty and the coop is cool, tho it gets a little annoying ala old school side scroller coop. Anyway, it's certainly recommendable. I already have Wipeout HD and LBP as well, so infamous and dead nation for me. All these 5 games are apparently really good so you can't go wrong with whatever you pick.

I checked it out as well as Dead Nation (the two I'm making a choice over). Both look pretty interesting, though for different reasons. This doesn't seem the kind of game I'd go co-op for, but Dead Nation looks a bit like a run and gun/roguelike combination, which I would actually play with a friend.

Also, 32" TV.

I'd consider getting a bigger TV if I had room for one, but I don't.

I don't think it's really that hard.

I'm just bad right now.

Then again, I did buy Wizardry the other day, so paying for bullshit hard games is right up my alley. It's quite exhilarating when your frontliner meatshield gets hit for over 3 times their health from an enemies' normal attack. Not to mention all the instant kills being thrown around.

Yeah, you were one of the only bearable characters in FFXIII.

Anyway, I did Super Stardust again. I played Easy cause I thought I'd see what the difference was, and I ended up playing the whole thing and getting 66 million. I probably didn't need to be on Easy anyway, but whatever. Also, why is it that I can last forever without getting hit while I have a shield, but once I lose it I get hit fifty times in a row?
Ivalset
Probably don't play well under pressure. When you lose that shield and then eventually a ship, it's like the beginning of the end. You get sloppy, you make mistakes. You forget to boost, you see death coming but you get slow on your bomb trigger.

It's all in your head, man.

Also it might have something to do the time you spent dead is time spent not shooting, therefore rocks hit each other and spread into a billion tinier rocks which become near impossible to dodge (especially when it loops around to Hard mode)
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Yeah, I'm still pretty bad at boosting/bombing. I went for that 20 bomb trophy, then continued to stock up bombs for no reason. So I had almost 20 bombs when I beat the last level. And I'm afraid to boost usually cause I don't know where I'll end up. But in any case, I'm pretty much done and satisfied now.
Ivalset
You have to play on normal, you puss.

Also, you're invincible while boosting, so I usually just dash a good bit ahead and u-turn back at the end. I dunno, it gets easier to sense when to use it as you use it.
