Also wow, about time there's a quick reply. Or maybe it's always been there and it's the first time I've misclicked.
Quick Reply has been around for several months, but not always.

atm I think I'm only looking forward to getting Disgaea 4. But I have 2 games in progress and 4 I haven't even opened, and that's on the PS3 alone. So many games, so little time.

Yeah, it's not my favorite by any means, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to rush out and buy it, but it's a decent enough fix for someone who hasn't played a Tales game in ages like me. The game gets a lot better the more you play it, cause you start out with shit moves and stuff. The good thing is that this game isn't nearly as long as the first one, so I should be able to get through it soon enough so I can start the real run with 10x EXP and all that GRADE stuff.

rust45 wrote:

I never really had trouble with getting killed by enemies like that, however one of the late bosses did that. Also, I played with my brother so I was stuck as Marta, I don't find her too bad though, and her Mystic Arte is great for random enemies.
I died in my very first non-tutorial battle. The bats in the cave could somehow kill me almost instantly. It took me a while to realize that I should get surrounded by enemies, which would always drain my health fast, and that I should just play Semi-Auto instead of Manual because I can't block/dodge for shit in this game. I could in ToS, but not here. Once I realized that juggling was pretty much the easiest way to not get hit, I stopped getting hurt so much. Also, I forgot about Quests until chapter 4, so I wasn't getting a lot of EXP.

They hacked a single website? Holy shit, yeah, these guys mean serious business. The entire fabric of Sony's network will be unraveled with the hacking of a few of their websites. Unless these guys permanently take down the PSN or something, they won't even bruise Sony's wallet.

Also, I wouldn't have expected the PSN to be turned back on until a Friday or Tuesday, so unless it doesn't get turned on by 7pm on 5/31, then they haven't broken their promise in my book. But even if they DO delay it again, it shouldn't be any surprise at all if you've been paying attention during the past month. I do wish they would've given some updates about when we should expect the store back though. I hate being told on the deadline date that shit's been delayed.

I'm not talking about those guys at all. I'm talking about the people who hacked that Japanese Sony site and are planning on doing another "Sony operation". I really don't think those guys are the same ones who fucked with the PSN, and as such, they aren't a big concern. The PSN attack was somewhat damaging to profits and reputation, but in a few months the internet will move on and these profits/reputations will return to the status quo.

Anyway, just finished up (my first playthrough of) Symphonia 2. Such a convoluted story. I can definitely see how this was a low-budget game, but whatever, man. It still feels awesome to beat some tough fight.

Someone questioned Super Stardust HD earlier. One of the first PSN games i bought, pretty kickass. Can only really enjoy it with a really large tv, 32" for example feels way too cramped. It is very pretty and the coop is cool, tho it gets a little annoying ala old school side scroller coop. Anyway, it's certainly recommendable. I already have Wipeout HD and LBP as well, so infamous and dead nation for me. All these 5 games are apparently really good so you can't go wrong with whatever you pick.

I was in the store for about 15 minutes with constant minute-long loads and error messages before the system just plain froze on an error message and now gets an error every time it tries to log in. Thanks, Sony!

I checked it out as well as Dead Nation (the two I'm making a choice over). Both look pretty interesting, though for different reasons. This doesn't seem the kind of game I'd go co-op for, but Dead Nation looks a bit like a run and gun/roguelike combination, which I would actually play with a friend.

Also, 32" TV.

I'd consider getting a bigger TV if I had room for one, but I don't.

Luckily, I have a second account, so it doesn't matter. That also means I can probably get all three of the games I don't have if I just wait until this stuff starts working.

I don't think it's really that hard.

I'm just bad right now.

Then again, I did buy Wizardry the other day, so paying for bullshit hard games is right up my alley. It's quite exhilarating when your frontliner meatshield gets hit for over 3 times their health from an enemies' normal attack. Not to mention all the instant kills being thrown around.

Yeah, you were one of the only bearable characters in FFXIII.

Anyway, I did Super Stardust again. I played Easy cause I thought I'd see what the difference was, and I ended up playing the whole thing and getting 66 million. I probably didn't need to be on Easy anyway, but whatever. Also, why is it that I can last forever without getting hit while I have a shield, but once I lose it I get hit fifty times in a row?
Ivalset
Probably don't play well under pressure. When you lose that shield and then eventually a ship, it's like the beginning of the end. You get sloppy, you make mistakes. You forget to boost, you see death coming but you get slow on your bomb trigger.

It's all in your head, man.

Also it might have something to do the time you spent dead is time spent not shooting, therefore rocks hit each other and spread into a billion tinier rocks which become near impossible to dodge (especially when it loops around to Hard mode)
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Yeah, I'm still pretty bad at boosting/bombing. I went for that 20 bomb trophy, then continued to stock up bombs for no reason. So I had almost 20 bombs when I beat the last level. And I'm afraid to boost usually cause I don't know where I'll end up. But in any case, I'm pretty much done and satisfied now.
Ivalset
You have to play on normal, you puss.

Also, you're invincible while boosting, so I usually just dash a good bit ahead and u-turn back at the end. I dunno, it gets easier to sense when to use it as you use it.

I just spent 40 minutes fighting that one super secret super badass hidden side boss in Persona 4 (not the reaper, the good one) and now I feel like a boss.

btw inFamous is a fairly decent third person shooter. Strictly speaking money-wise, you're best off going for inFamous ($30) and buying Super Stardust HD ($15) if you're that torn

I finished my Good playthrough of inFamous 2 today. This game pretty much has most of the problems that the old one had, then also got rid of some of the good things from the first one to make the second game a little worse. There are some nice things that they added, like Ice Launch (!), but overall it kinda felt like a giant DLC pack that gave me new powers, a new location, and extra bullshit.
awp
There's always prototype 2
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Yeah, but so far that's looking to be the exact same case. Not to mention Prototype was more frustrating than inFamous ever was. Especially that fucking giant Mother boss or whatever on Hard mode. Anybody mind using their shiny playstation plus account to download a copy of sonic 2 (it's free for PSPlus) and boost me the multiplayer trophy? It feels like a sin for me to not have 100% in this game. Should only take like half an hour tops, I think.

Sure thing, bud. Oh wait, that means I'd have to activate Chiaki's PS+ thing. I was gonna wait for Seibei's subscription to almost expire, then activate Chiaki's and keep it on for another month. It probably wouldn't kill me to just activate it tomorrow though. I wanna try some more game trials anyway. (Nevermind, I am stupid. That only applies to game trials.)

So anyway, I've been playing Red Faction: Guerrilla lately. Man, that game is balls if you actually do the story missions and stuff, but destroying shit is fuuuun every single time (once the area's liberated, that is). Also, oh my God, I was driving my car around, then it suddenly turned into Christine or something and started wildly accelerating all by itself and wouldn't brake. So I bailed out of the car and it kept going for a while until it got stuck on a rail or something. So I had to kill it with a rocket launcher so it wouldn't get free and start killing everybody.
awp
Was that Christine thing a Stephen King reference because you lost me halfway through
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Well, it was, yeah. I'm just saying the car suddenly had a mind of its own and it had some major bloodlust. It's for situations like these that make me think every open-world game should be required to have a video capture feature like in Just Cause 2.

So awp and/or Rolled, not to troll or anything, but are there any fun songs on the Rock Band 3 disc? I've probably played maybe 20 of the songs or so and I haven't come across a song that's made me want to go back and play it in Quick Play. It's mostly been either repetitive stuff, power chord crap, or solo stream stuff. Are there any Reptilia/My Name Is Jonas/Helicopter songs on there? Like Whip It was pretty fun, just really repetitive. Space Oddity wasn't bad either.
awp
There's Bohemian Rhapsody. I kinda dig the sound of The Beautiful People, but it is not a fun song to play. Whip It's on my shitlist; it's a horrible song for drums. There's a song by Elton John that caught me by surprise by being really fun. Most of the songs on the RB3 disc are passable but lacklustre. All the real good shit's in the DLC.

Shadows of the Damned is pretty fucking awesome, guys. Like it really, really is. The weapons are pretty sweet and each one has its uses. Like, you don't just go through the game using just one gun. I find myself switching it up pretty frequently. And the bosses are those "expose the weakpoint" type bosses like in Zelda, and I love that. There's even a few 2D shooter sections for literally no reason. Like the characters mention it, but they don't question it.

Anyway, that being said, don't spend $60 on it. You can beat this game in a day, two days tops. There is no New Game+. There is no Chapter Select. It still beats inFamous 2 though.

I know, my friend and I blasted through three of the missions today, there's just something about it that feels blindly fun, like you don't know why it's fun, it just is, and it's a blast.

There's also a very satisfying sound whenever you send a charged rifle shot through a horde of zombies.
awp
splish splish splish splish

have fun with the last level. It's nothing but open spaces and very large hordes of zombies. Shocker 4 lyfe

one of the levels, like 7 or 8 or something (before the highway) pulls some real bullshit on you and you have to zerg rush like 5 Mouths that are behind destructable walls. That should be a cakewalk with multiplayer but it's a dick move in SP.

Anyway, so I was totally gonna get Eternal Sonata, but now that I actually wanna get it, my Gamestop stopped having it. So I got stuck with Red Dead Redemption, which, by the way, hasn't been as good as I was expecting so far.

In all honesty, Eternal Sonata is not that great. The combat system is reasonably fun, but the game is otherwise just so plain. Dungeon, Boss, Rinse, Repeat. You just do the same thing over and over again but with a different scenario each time.

There aren't a lot of games coming out right now (that I feel like spending $60 on), so I'm going through a bunch of games that I feel will probably be lame, but possibly fun. I'm somtimes surprised at what turns out to be fun for me. Also, I kinda feel the need for some more RPG. I thought the Dungeon Siege III demo was enjoyable, but it's at $60, so screw it. RPGs don't really have to be fun and exciting for me to play them a lot, as we can plainly see with my FFXIII Plat.

Have you played the Disgaea series at all? Because that's a great way to kill about 400 hours (if you're a completionist but only play each game once). All 3 Disgaeas are good, though I'd go for the PSP version of Disgaea 1 and 2 if you have the choice.

Just played the Sonic Generations demo. A lot of fun for a 2 minute demo (if you're a slowpoke like I am). Makes me wonder how such a short demo had such a large (660MB) file size. Pretty much worth it for the Green Hill tune though.

That game looks promising; more so than Sonic 4.

I don't even have a PSP. And again, I'm not big on tactical RPGs. I mostly like action RPGs and stuff, like Star Ocean, Tales, Resonance of Fate, and Kingdom Hearts (if that counts). That's kinda why I was looking at Eternal Sonata. Also, 400 hours is overkill. Like, it would have to be my favorite game ever for me to do that.

Since Red Dead Redemption is so boring, and I mean so fucking boring, I might return it and just spring for Dungeon Siege III or something. But seriously, about RDR, for such a highly reviewed game that everyone seems to like, I wanna like it, but I just don't get it. I like the massive gunfights, but one every four hours isn't fast-paced enough for me. So yeah, it's probably a good game, but I can't stand it.

Eternal Sonata was only an impulse purchase due to how the graphics looked (first of its kind on the western PS market anyhow) but besides the initial couple of hours playing it, not too much else is done with it besides collecting dust.

The only tactical RPG(s) I have thoroughly enjoyed would have to be Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days (prefer it still above the first and third) and Final Fantasy VIII.

I shunned away from Red Dead Redemption as being another over-hyped game that wouldn't deliver and/or be a one-time playthrough, in the end it seemed like it was the right choice.
Anyone remember how hyped up Kane & Lynch was and look what happened in the end there.

For me a big thing is replayability, was it actually worth the $100-110?
This from an Australian game price, go figure the reason I resorted to importing so many of my games.

Of course, if I actually enjoy the game on the first run is another big issue.

Oh how I miss the days of games being released as complete packages and not requiring you to either patch up what shouldn't have needed it or having to buy parts of the game which should have been standard.

As a side note, anyone else getting a Playstation Vita? (Shit name, should've just been left as NGP which sounded better)

I liked RDR. I really like the engine it's on, so yeah.

Yeah, I found a way to take away the only fun I was having in the game. Going out into the wilderness and hunting animals is kind of fun every now and then, but I only did that to slowly make money. Then I found out you can do this one mini-game over and over again and get ridiculous amounts of cash really fast. And the mini-game is just pressing a button combination really fast and the combination never changes. The only thing I like about RDR so far is the main character. He's just a cool dude.

But anyway, yeah, I only got RDR cause I got it for $27 and I have the opportunity to get my money back if it sucks, which I will do. Oh, and I probably won't get a Vita unless they come out with something fantastic. So far the only good games for it are spin-offs of console games, which is basically what the PSP did a lot.

400 hours is for completionists on each game, btw

Disgaea 1 you can do in 40 hours, but might take 80 if you need to learn the system and figure out how to optimize character building. That's really what the Disgaea series is all about; building your character's stats. Unlike other games such as FFT/Tactics Ogre which try to throw in tricky terrain and weather conditions, Disgaea's main game is "make characters super strong, then obliterate everything". There isn't really a focus on strategy until you hit the land of carnage or dark world (the dark world is interesting because it turns some levels into a puzzle game instead of an SRPG)

I was reluctant to get into SRPGs because I wasn't big on FFT but I sure was glad I gave it a try. Best RPG franchise ever.
