Alright, so I've been playing for about half a year now and have gotten as good as I think I can get given my current technique. I can S rank lower level 5 stars and as a specific example I can get a little over 90% on the 5 star beatmaps of "Baracuda - La Di Da"

But I am really trying to take my game to the next level, and just to prove how much of a noob I am, I just recently figured out you can use "z" and "x" instead of your mouse buttons. I still use mouse clicking for mostly everything though cause I feel I am more accurate but I'm willing to practice whatever is the most widely accepted technique by pro mouse users so I can take my game to the next level.

Is there any specific thread with an in-depth tutorial that might help me? Or could someone just shed some light on how I "SHOULD BE" or "OPTIMALLY" playing? For example, should I just keep clicking the mouse? Or should I force myself to learn to use "z" and "x"? And if so, should I alternate my index and middle finger on them or what?

Thank you so much in advance for any help. And if this is not in the right section I'm sorry. :P

Set it to z and c it wont cramp up your fingers as easy. If you want to be fast you have to learn to use mouse and keyboard.

1) Disable windows key >> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216893
I tend to press windows key when hitting stream w/ z and x
2) experiment on your personal preference..
try adjusting 0.1 higher or lower of your mouse sensitivity
3) try to find the most comfortable position of your mouse
recently, I pulled out my mouse deck and made a special platform which is nearer and lower than its previous position

there is no optimal playstyle, it just generally depends on what style of maps you like playing and are the best at.

i hybridize between the mouse buttons and the keyboard - using the keyboard for things like streams and doubles, but the mouse for triples. it's just honestly what you feel most comfortable with.

Have you tried hitting it with a hammer?

Keep playing with the mouse buttons. By watching replays, you'd note that a lot of the time, keyboard users have a lighter grip on the mouse, resulting in lesser accuracy when it comes to jumping and single notes, but a somewhat easier time while streaming. However, if you learn to stream with the mouse, you'll be far better.

You can keep the mouse clicking style ur comfortable at if u can play maps with streams.
switch to z & x if not. also, find the best sensitivity for you

Improvement is fun and satisfying.

Follow the beats with your mouse as if you're playing with the relax mod on. Now get a friend to press the z/x keys. Voila, optimal playstyle~

osu is srsbzns :(

Oh, and while I noticed it was posted above, check out the James Training thread if you haven't already. It's helped me wonders.

Takes time for you to find your optimal playstyle. I mainly use z/x/c right hand for circles and left hand tablet.

I started clicking with the mouse but my accuracy is one moving it normal and another moving while clicked, for example, so I discovered switched to keyboard to clicks and feel much better this way.
But as said before, everyone has his way to play, you just have to test and find yours.
I'm thinking about buy a tablet since I'll probably get more accuracy than with mouse.

play only with mouse. O_O

I would agree that hardware, and playstyle affects your skill to a certain degree but in my opinion playcount and practice is most important.
Most people say play insane/lunatic/really hard songs to get better, but if you need nofail then that is going a bit too far. I'd say if you get less than 93% on a song then that is a good song to practice on. (nomods ofcourse)

turn off mouse precision(windows) (raise your mouse speed a bit)

lower sensitivity by a little bit. . tad bits . . slower seems to help you actually move the mouse, than when you start movin faster it feels like your mouse glides

WATCH your pointer . . i know it sounds like common sense <_<

i changed zx to et, feels nice for my thumb to be on the spacebar

your whole hand shouldn't be "laying" on the mouse, moving it only with fingerpads :D

try editing all of the X300 x100 x50 xmiss images to invisible/transparent or shrink so your screen doesn't get jam packed or any beats blocked by them (annoying mappers :(

edit the pointer to something easy to see, i didn't like the default cursor, its too transparent in a map w/ video
