Which Wineskin and what keyboard layout are you using? If you aren't using an English layout (such as US) then switch to one.

Hi, I'm having some trouble downloading osu beatmaps.
I finally updated my macOS to Catalina recently and did all the steps to update osu to Catalina supported one.
Everything is working perfectly, except I can't open the osu beatmaps and add new songs.
Whenever I try to open the beat maps I downloaded on osu, it says "There's no Windows program configured to open this type of file".(I will attach a screenshot below.)
The file type I download from the official osu website is in filename.osz format.
Please let me know if there's a solution to this! Thank you

Heyo, this works bloody brilliantly except the only issue I am facing is I get tiny stutters every now and then in the middle of songs, browsing or even just letting the program run on the menu screen. I've gone through the settings to try and make it less taxing on my machine but it causes me to miss in the middle of a beatmap. Any ideas?

Hello , I had seen that you updated osu for mac and I got this version, and it has been working well for like a week or two and then I ran into a problem where I can't open it now, I also recently got supporter so if you could get back with me soon that would be great! Here is what the report says.


When I tried to open it my Malwarebytes program was showing there was some threat and it moved some things to "quaratine" I tried looking for the files and I only saw some logs , but not the update.log or the Razer Synapse.

Wine internally uses spoofed .dll files which is what Malwarebytes likely picked up. I'm entirely sure how you would get them restored if it quarantined them (I haven't used an antivirus on macOS in years). My best suggestion is to disable Malwarebytes (at least for the Wineskin if not entirely) and then reinstall Wineskin and transfer you data over again.

Hi, I finally had the time to play osu and try loading the beatmaps. I have the osu agent's "automatically move beatmaps from downloads" enabled, and tried pressing f5 key in game. It says it's checking for new files, but the .osz files in the downloads don't seem to load properly.

Any solutions to this? Sorry for posting several times... Let me know if I need to post additional information here.

Please move the .osz files away from the Downloads folder and then back into the Downloads folder. If that doesn't work please try the manual method. The maps should be moved automatically when a map is downloaded.

Hi! I currently am trying to download beatmaps through the agent but i'm constantly getting an error screen. I have all the "move files from download" checked in, and when I try to download a beatmap, it does not download. I've tried the manual method and got nothing. I've tried for over 2 hours trying to move the beatmaps but there's no indication that the maps are on osu.

Please paste a screenshot of your Songs folder. Can you clarify what you mean by "it does not download"? If the beatmap file disappears from the Downloads folder then it should appear in the Songs folder (as the agent is moving the file).

A new text file with the extension .bat (so, not execute.txt.bat or execute.bat.txt but execute.bat). I'd really suggest you try the Catalina Wineskin first because that one uses an updated Wine engine and has the Discord Rich Presence already applied.

I downloaded osu!-catalina.zip from the link that you sent above and ran it through a virustotal scan because I thought your answer to the "Are there viruses" question was incomplete. Low and behold, it got flagged by 5 antiviruses as malware. Can you explain this and provide proof that this is in fact not malware?

I don't know how you want me to provide "proof". There is no way for me to conclusively show that the downloads I provide are malware free. Even if I provide screenshots or a video of me creating the Wineskin wrapper along with the checksum either of these can be easily fabricated. This question was provided as an answer to people who have the Wineskin detected as malware by antivirus scanners.

At the end of the day I encourage people who are worried about the possibility of a virus to follow my (outdated) macOS troubleshooting guide: community/forums/topics/679205 and create their own wrapper from scratch.

Yes you can delete it. Keep in mind that you'll have to import beatmaps and skins manually after doing so.

Minor problem though (if it even is a problem)
I usually have two screens running, i output a second screen through thunderbolt to hdmi, but whenever I open osu! the my second screen would go black and the Mac Mission Control is also disabled (I can't 'show all windows' go to my desktop, or use any of my mission control/launchpad shortcuts.) I don't know if this is a bug or it's intentional.

But all in all the client runs near perfectly.

This was a bug that was fixed in my 2018 Wineskin but it looks like the option that fixed the bug got removed I don't know if there's a way to make dual monitors work at the moment (although I think disabling the Render at Native Resolution option in osu! might work?). If you need to access Safari or some other Web browser you can use the Cmd + Tab shortcut.

I played around with the Native Res settings before and it didn't really do anything.

im on mac os mojave (10.14.6) and im using slc package and the game runs fine. ive done all the steps and can play the game but every now it freezes for about 2-5 seconds. I can still hear the beatmap audio playing fine.
I've tried scanning and repairing but the problem still persists

So if my mac is Catalina 10.15.6 would you recommend doing the additional steps or am I good to go? Also, my virus checker has detected a bunch of weird exe's so it's telling me not to download it, is there a reason for this ?

Oh ok that's great. I did the steps anyways, and it ended up not working. The app didn't open even though I did the steps.
Is there a reason for that or am I doing something incorrect.

See the Transferring data section, the same steps apply. Just copy over all the folders that you have.

The game opens but gameplay is impossible for me because of the lag. I already tried using xQuartz but it made my game even slower. Not sure if there's a solution to this, maybe since my laptop is a bit old. I'm using the High Sierra build.

Unfortunately it seems that past a specific Wine version (although not sure which one) osu! tends to lag really a lot on older hardware and I'm not entirely sure why; it could just mean that the hardware is too old but that doesn't seem reasonable seeing as osu! isn't really a performance intensive game.

One thing to try is right clicking osu! > Show Package Contents > Wineskin > Advanced > Set Screen Options and enabling "Retina Mode". I believe that slc mentioned that it got rid of the frame drops for them although the screen resolution might be skewed; not entirely sure as I haven't tried it myself.

The only problem is that I don't know how to use Terminal and can't find a proper tutorial on how to put a path to the osu application. Could I get assistance with this?

Hello idk if somebody knows how to fix but I tried everything and still doesnt work. The error im getting is “osu!” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash. the wierd thing is that when I first installed it it worked perfectly but I accidently touched an in-game setting and the game crashed and next thing I know this error keeps occuring.
If anybody knows the solution I would be very grateful.

For anybody complaining about the wacky MacOS mouse Movement the solution is to dessactivate Mouse acceleration with SteelSeries ExactMouse tool (wich btw i think you need to look up otherwise the link leads you to the SteelSeries main Page) just look up SteelSeries ExacMouse tool go to the bottom of the page then open Miscellaneous and it should be the last one.

hi, the game lags really badly to the point where I can't get through a beatmap. i have a pretty new computer and i tried enabling retina mode, but it didn't help. Please paste the troubleshooting report after repairing if it doesn't work. It's likely that you enabled Compatibility Mode by accident but that should not cause osu! to be damaged (I suspect you've reinstalled the Wineskin?).

You have to keep the osu!macOS Agent open in the background and let it import for you, I didn't realize that until now.

Technocoder, when I check the osu! folder, I see the discord-rpc.dll, but once I open it for the first time, it gets deleted. What do I do because I keep losing my rich presence feature then.

It sounds like a skin specific issue then. If you can send a link to the skin I might be able to figure it out but the best option is probably to just use a different skin.

If you use osu!macOS Agent it should fix the "move this to the trash" issue. It also works with the old, deprecated post but I recommend using the updated Wineskins if possible because there are some issues with running osu! on the deprecated post.

Try giving the Catalina Wineskin a go (it has the Rich Presence installed already). If you can't run that then paste a screenshot of your osu! directory as well as the execute.bat file you created.

There shouldn't be a discord-rpc.dll in your directory?... The only executable needed for Discord Rich Presence is bridge.exe. The old method of replacing the dll file no longer works.

I have a problem, McAfee deletes some of osu's source files and reports them as trojan ware. Because of this, when downloaded, it says osu is damaged and prompts me to move to trash. Any way on how to fix this?

Not sure what to suggest as I'm not sure what would be going wrong. Did you manage to get the Catalina version (latest Wineskin) up and running? Is your Discord version up to date? Are there any other applications using the Rich Presence feature (like Spotify) you might be able to quit? What about restarting your computer?

im not sure if its just my settings but when i play i notice that my cursor moves down a bit. it doesn't move down too much but it does become noticeable the longer i play. my mouse would be in the middle of my mouse pad and it would end up on the edge of the mouse pad after i play one map. its small but its still big enough to effect my accuracy. i downloaded this yesterday.

You're probably experiencing "mouse" or "cursor drift". It's not specific to macOS as it's prevalent amongst Windows players too. I can't really help you with that as I use a tablet but you might be able to open a help thread and find solutions there.

If you open the osu! folder in the Catalina Wineskin (right click osu! > Show Package Contents > drive_c > osu!), the execute.bat and bridge.exe files should be in there. You can copy those files into your existing Wineskin (if you have one) in case they weren't made correctly. If the Catalina version didn't make Discord Rich Presence work though, I don't think this would be of much help. Sorry, I don't really have any other steps to suggest as it seems to be working for other people (someone I helped managed to get it working two days ago).

After reading this, I decided to just reinstall the Catalina version to see if that would do anything, and it seemed it did, thanks for helping anyways. [make sure to use the Latest Wineskin and not experimental], also yes if as what I just said wasn't clear, Discord Rich Presence works now.

Alright, but another question is: How do you fix the weird font on like the ranking and stuff? As when I open osu! and I look at the main menu, I can see that my rank has some weird bigger numbers than usual, is there a way to fix that as it kinda is buggin' me.

Now they are both a slight tiny difference, but it is visible that, they are different. And I can see it has changed a bit as the old osu! version (Mojave and older) had much worse bumpy text, but it is still visible in this version.

If you go back to the forum, there are instructions there on how to import beatmaps. But if you don't wanna go back, let me just tell you how to fix your error below

Step 1. Keep the osu!macOS Agent open in the background.
Step 2. Download a osu! map.
Step 3. Once finished downloading, the Agent should automatically put the song in your songs folder for you.
Step 4. Go back into osu!
Step 5. Press F5 in-game and the song should import.

Gave it a look on my end and wow, you're right, it is bigger!

I'm not sure what the cause of this is. I *suspect* it's a fonts issue where one of the fonts on macOS is different from Windows or it's defaulting to some fallback font in case it's non existent but without more information on how the game works I don't think I can fix it.

There are two main reasons for this. First, for osu! to run, Wine needs to create its own process (called the preloader, you may see this appear in Discord for people who don't have Rich Presence) and then this process needs to initialise and open osu!. This two stage load means that it takes significantly more time to open an application initially.

The second reason is due to how the Discord Rich Presence works. The bridge.exe file has to start before osu! so it can capture the presence protocol which is why you see that black terminal window pop up. It takes time to open of course and osu! can't start without it finishing first.

The Wineskin or the osu! game itself? The game should automatically update itself.
As for the Wineskin, I rarely update it. Every month or even two months should be more than fine. If I do update it I add a note in the "Latest Wineskin changes" section.

Answer 1: Aw, I guess that is too bad. I mean, it doesn't affect the game a whole lot, but it does get annoying when you see the difference between the two operating systems.

Regarding importing beatmaps and skins (https://osu-mac.readthedocs.io/en/latest/welcome/import.html), I still recommend using osu!macOS Agent to do this as it will automatically handle things like extraction and alphanumeric characters. I don't know if you plan on having a section for this.

Regarding transferring data from another Wineskin (https://osu-mac.readthedocs.io/en/latest/welcome/transfer.html), I think it should be made clear that transferring just the Skins and Songs folder will not transfer your scores and replays over (that requires the scores.db and Replays folder and probably some other files?) which I learnt the hard way (rip 2017 replays).

Regarding compatibility mode, macOS Agent will also disable it as part of its troubleshooting sequence. Are you sure it's called "osu!fallback"? I've only ever seen that term used for the Stable Fallback versison of osu!.

Regarding the startup issues with Catalina, these are only present in my experimental Catalina version as the execute.bat file exists as part of Discord Rich Presence now.

osu!macOS Agent imports: totally dropped the ball on that one and I think somewhere sometime in someplace I did mention that but I must have forgotten to put it in the actual Importing section - will do

Transferring data: ah yes forgot about scores and Replays - thanks for letting me know and I'll add that into the import section as well.

Compatibility mode: oops yup, Compatibility Mode just translates DirectX to OpenGL while stable fallback is an entirely different build altogether I believe

Catalina startup issues: yep thanks for letting me know - I use slc's Wineskin which means I've been able to remove the no-splash flag

Discord RPC: ahhh I see - that would very much explain it. I would have hoped that Linux and macOS namespaces were the same but that makes more sense.

Contractions: I'll take a look over that when I have time since that's a good point and idk why I did that lol
