Hi there! My name is Kris, but in osu! I go by k0n673b. I have had osu! downloaded for a bit now, but only just recently got into the game. However, I do have some experience with 4k rhythm games. This makes my adjustment for actual gameplay fairly smooth as I only have to learn to read a completely 2D format.

Despite having a little experience with rhythm games, there's still a lot I could improve on. In addition, the ranking system (pp, I believe it's called?) confuses me. If anyone could shed some light on the system for me, I would be very grateful. As well as figuring out the ranking system, is there anything I should know for tips for improving as a player?

Thank you guys for your responses in advance!

P.S. I've been having a lot of fun doing multiplayer matches and just playing a few nice beatmaps over the past few days. As an added perk, I reached the top 50,000 today according to the home screen :).

1. If you are lacking songs, I prefer playing Multi lobbies, Converting maps from Etterna or downloading map packs and unranked maps but unranked maps are usually overmapped as hell.

2. Try to diverse the amount of songs you play so you can expose yourself to a lot of different patterns.

3. Use the DT mod (Speeds up the song by x1.5) on some songs you can normally FC/SS, it also multiplies how much PP you gain.

4. If you want to test your accuracy you can use HR or Score V2 (Unranked Mod)

5. Don't be scared to push your limit.

Try using a clicky keyboard and remember to go easy if you are new
epic man 2
Get a circle skin, start off with 4k and use QWOP (Left hand for Q W, Right hand for O P), disable the BPM = Scroll speed thing in the options, aim for accuracy, focus on the Note hitters, master some patterns and there is a whole lot I can give.

Then later, try to choose some maps to get better with.

These are my tips, you're welcome.

Resist the urge to mash through the hardest songs you can for pp- you'll only hinder your improvement. instead focus on learning to play a variety of patterns and increase the Star Rating at which you can consistently get high accuracy score (96%+)

Don't neglect a difficulty just because you can get 97-98% scores on the songs- it is worth continuing to refine accuracy until you can reach SS and then even work on improving MA ratio (ratio between Marvelous and Perfect judgements). this will help your overall consistency in the long run and help you maintain a balanced skillset

Don't be afraid to utilize mods on your play- Hardrock, Fadein, Hidden, Flashlight, Doubletime, Sudden Death, Perfect, Random, and Mirror can all be fun ways to vary how you're playing and help you improve various aspects of your play.

When you find a pattern you're strong at (say, for example, jacks), the temptation will be to play a lot of jack maps for high pp scores, however don't wait until later to practice things like LNs (Long Notes), SVs, streams, tech patterns, stamina maps, dump maps, etc. The same applies with higher keycounts if you intend to get into 7key for example

Multiplayer and the forums are a great way to meet other plays and find people around your skill level to compete against. Challenging yourself to one up a friend's PB or win in a live multiplayer match is a great way to keep the game fun and engaging while youre practicing..

Avoid replaying the same handfull of charts over and over again. the ranked pool for 4key is quite small towards the higher difficulties and it can be easy to limit yourself. Many great maps for practice are in the loved, pending, and graveyard categories, don't be afraid to branch out.

If you reach a high enough level, it might be worth branching out into other clients like Etterna and Quaver (if it ever releases). These other clients will help you practice other areas of your play and are good for building a strong overall skillset.

Make sure you're playing with a setup that is comfortable for you and minimize the amount of unnessecary strain you put on your arms- the last thing you want is an injury from a game.
