Hi there. I'm Handle.

Well, 3 months ago. I posted a topic here https://osu.ppy.sh/community/forums/topics/765789 to show my osu KeyPad to Chinese BBS users. Now, I'm happy to show them with my Terrible English.

What's SimPad
SimPad named from "Simple" and "Keypad".
When I started to design it, I hope it could be cheap and practical.
And, I made it.And Opened Source

Just show some photos of old version.
- The first SimPad -

- A test version -

- And a white one (final version of v2) with wacom CTL-472 -

Featues
There are some featues.
1. 1000Hz Refresh Rate
2. USB-C Port
3. HID device doesn't need devier
4. Four RGB lights in two groups
5. A Powerful Settings Pannel Program (With Electron)

Look at the pictures below.
- Change Key Codes -

- Change lights' color -

Source Files
I updated the source codes, PCB documents and Shell documents to my Blog and Github with MIT License
Please give me a comment to make it better~

Fair enough. Needs more acrylic and RGB.

Now with RGB:

I recently figured out FFT for this controller, might use that for sound-reactive effects.

Or you just do it with software

Interesting. I originally thought of a hardware-only approach. I'm guessing like sending FFT data over serial after the program samples and processes currently playing audio. Then having Arduino play with the FFT data and passing that over to the Neopixel.

I could probably do that with a python script for the host PC and have Arduino listen for serial communication. It imposes a software install but shouldn't be too hard. A nice challenge I suppose.

I did test a hardware-only approach using a Teensy 3.6. It uses a Cortex M4, and that thing is overkill for simple keyboards. However, it is designed for real-time signal processing like audio. PJRC wonderfully supports this processor with audio FFT libraries as well as USB audio libraries with the Audio System Design Tool, which I lovingly frankensteined with Adafruit's Neopixel library. Honestly, it isn't the best performing solution either but I did maintain hardware independence; having tested them in both Windows and Linux with no software install.
