it took a little bit of prodding but it works so amazingly
edit: it broke after first launch with a .net framework initialization error, not sure what's going on. it looks like osu!.exe got updated to a version that wine wasn't expecting, not sure how to fix even the updater is borked. upon further investigation it looks like the release stream in osu.cfg keeps on getting kicked back to the Stable channel (from Stable40)...looks like this happens every time the updater runs past initial startup.

I downloaded the zipfile from the google drive link you provided. I skipped the first step (because this is my first time downloading osu! on the mac) and proceeded to move osu! out of the download folder, but it doesn't open? Nothing happens when I click it, did I miss something?

Only thing I can think of is OpenGL issues but your GL Version is only slightly lower than mine so I doubt it's a huge issue. You can try disabling as many graphical effects in the osu! options and if that doesn't work, enable compatibility mode. If even that doesn't work I'll add a section in my guide later that explains how to revert your Wine version to an older one that may work better.

I'm not entirely sure on the internals of mouse movement in OSX but mouse acceleration may be affecting your cursor (since Wine has to translate your OSX cursor to osu!). If you want to disable your mouse acceleration open Terminal and paste this in:
defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling -1
Then press enter.

hey! worked for me - i moved some settings around, something was probably causing conflict and the problem is gone. not sure what it was as i changed a lot of stuff, but fortunately it's properly working again. thanks again for this lovely package now i can say it's fully running
omg i spent hours tryng to get osu on mac, tysm!!!!. Works perfectly!
For me osu wont open at all, it says its open but nothing happens, at first it updated and then it was stuck on the osu icon so i closed it. now it won't work and I'm not able to close it or delete it!? I've tried getting osu on my mac for quite some time no and nothing seems to work

Hello, it's not really a huge issue, but I used to be able to play with softening filter and shaders but I haven't been able to use them for a long time now.
If I turn on softening filter, the entire screen blacks out. The instant I turn it off, it's fine.
If I turn on shaders, the transition from home screen –> song selection is no longer a fade to black but abruptly turns black. Also when my HP is low, the screen blacks out just like catitaa6.
I've tried doing winetricks –> videomemorysize= ____ because I thought it might work, but it doesn't. And I have already updated to your new Wineskin wrapper (thank you!!). It might be that I use a MBP Retina 2013 (High Sierra)? I feel like the graphics card should be okay, but I am not too sure.

Extract the skin with a zip extractor and then move the folder into the Skins folder.
So the resulting directory structure should be:
> Skins
--> Minimal 1.2 (or the skin name)
----> approachcircle.png
----> approachcircle@2x.png
----> ... etc

Same here just i click it to open and it doesnt open at all. nothing happens
whenever i want to play certain maps, the client starts to lag tremendously. for example, if i want to play the reol - monster mapset by sotarks, the client becomes unplayable and i have to restart it. does anyone knows how to fix this problem?

But, I need help as I use Wacom's Tablet Settings. Selecting osu!.app, booting the game, my cursor doesn't adjust. I found out the osu! runs on /Volumes/[my drive]/osu!.app/Contents/Frameworks/wswine.bundle/bin/ but on a Unix Executable file, which Wacom Tablet Settings doesn't select.

Hi, I just downloaded it but it lags a lot. Also, then inputs are a bit weird, I keep hitting early. The lag issue is the biggest though. Any help would be great thx
I managed to get to the osu updater window by disabling the "Decorate Windows" in Screen Options and running a test, but now I'm getting the "Unable to find a version of runtime to run this application" error, clicking any of the buttons just closes osu.
EDIT: Adding dotnet40 in winetricks stops the message from appearing, but just ends up crashing anyway. Getting this stuff in the mac system console:

EDIT LIKE 6: So downloaded it again, realised that there was some annoying conflicts with Razer Synapse's Kraken Headset Driver coming up in the wine logs while installing, so gonna remove Razer Synapse and hopefully that'll fix it. I'm pretty sure this happened before on earlier versions of the osu! mac wrapper, I just forgot about it and plugged in my headset without thinking.

The simplest way is to drag the osk file onto the running osu! game (make sure it is in windowed) then it'll automatically add the skin

I've looked through here and can't seem to find a solution for my issue. I'm using a Wacom Intuos P S (newest intuos tablet, also known as intuos draw) when I play osu! and when I'm playing, the cursor will freeze for a few seconds - every 10-20 seconds and make me fail. I have Wacom drivers installed, so I checked to see if it was my tablet by playing with my mouse and I get the same problem. The mouse & tablet works perfectly fine outside of osu! so I'm not sure what the problem is.

When i use the osu tablet, I did notice that the sensitivity have to be at 1.0, or it will jump around like crazy and lose control. So I simply shrink the active area of the tablet with the huion 420 driver. So all in all pretty good so far! Thanks for the release!

Yes, but randomly at some point. (like selecting beatmap or loading a beatmap, menu screen, etc.)

School has been making it difficult for me to find time and motivation to try and fix these issues. Unfortunately, most of these issues don't appear for me at all so it is incredibly hard to fix them myself. From what I have gathered so far, most of these issues crop up in older Macs and versions of OSX.
For those with the message "Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application", the only guaranteed fix I know is to simply reinstall the wrapper. Literally, just redownload it and drag all your songs into the new wrapper. For those with the message "Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application", the only guaranteed fix I know is to simply reinstall the wrapper. Literally, just redownload it and drag all your songs into the new wrapper. Understandable, thanks. So we shouldn't update our osu? Few minutes ago, there has been a new update then it closes the game, when it opens back up it only display the "Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application". So I guess I shouldn't.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure whether you should update or not, but I would guess that if osu! works for you without updating then I would leave it alone, since it looks like osu! in OSX is a little bit fragile.

so just to be sure I did something wrong or there is already something wrong with the wineskin launcher. something in the terminal always tells me that a useless file wont let me luanch cuz of this "WineskinLauncher[18330:70083] ERROR, wrapper was re-run with no recognized command line options while already running."

So I've been playing osu on the 2015 El Capitan fix for around two years now, until recently when the game has been receiving lag whenever I hold down my click keys (numPad1 & numPad2 since I'm left handed and use my right hand to tap), making it practically impossible to complete spinners properly after I've been playing for 5 or so minutes.
Revisiting the osu website and seeing a new update for the Mac OS got me very excited (thank you for the hours put into this Technocoder), except whenever I press a key in the song selection screen, the game instantly crashes.

I've tried all of the methods on the Mac issue guide without much success.
Either way, it would be nice to get another couple suggestions as to what I could do to solve this (both for the keypressing lag on the old 2015 El Capitan version, and for the crashing on the new version). It is worth mentioning that I seem to also be having an issue with attempting to change my keybinds for anything within both versions after I've had the lagging issue.

So I've been playing osu on the 2015 El Capitan fix for around two years now, until recently when the game has been receiving lag whenever I hold down my click keys (numPad1 & numPad2 since I'm left handed and use my right hand to tap), making it practically impossible to complete spinners properly after I've been playing for 5 or so minutes.
Revisiting the osu website and seeing a new update for the Mac OS got me very excited (thank you for the hours put into this Technocoder), except whenever I press a key in the song selection screen, the game instantly crashes.

Can you please tell me what keyboard layout you're using? It looks like anything other than the default US keyboard layout will cause osu! to crash.

Oof you absolutely nailed it I think.
I didn't realise that I was using the "Romaji" keyboard layout that I have. Though the input is the same as the US layout everything works completely fine now. The British keyboard layout seems to be working smoothly as well.
It's fixed the lag on the old version as well, and I can change my keybinds again.

When I try to run it, it says Verifying "osu" for a long time and after it finishes it says this application is from an unidentified developer do you want to open it? I hit okay and it doesn't do anything after that. osu doesn't open or anything.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but the game is not being detected by discord's rich presence. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both discord and osu!, and it still doesn't work. Other games such as League of Legends work like a charm, so I'm just wondering if it's actually possible for discord integration to work on this app?

Discord Rich Presence will not work due to the way Wineskin and Wine communicates with other processes on its host system. This is because the way Windows (which is what Wine emulates) and OSX handles cross process communication is incompatible with each other. In theory, Rich Presence could be set up to work but it would require modifying Wine or creating a set of programs that facilitates communication (which I've been meaning to do but haven't had the time and motivation to work much on).

But how do you install a skin? Do I just paste the folder in the osu!app?
I tried to 'Open current skin folder' in-game settings but there is not folder for it..

Right click osu!.app and select Show Package Contents.
Go to drive_c -> osu! -> Skins.
Drag the skin in here.
If it doesn't work, extract the skin with a zip extractor and drag the folder into the skins folder.

Right-click the app, then click on "Open."
Then after that, it will still verify the app, and still shows the same dialog box, but with an extra button.
Click "Open" then you are done.

The Wacom driver doesn't detect osu! as a specific application due to the fact that osu! is really running on a Wine server. I've filed a support ticket for allowing the driver to recognise processes instead of applications but I'm pretty sure they've misunderstood my ticket because they said Wacom doesn't work on VMs (which Wine isn't). I found the problem! The file permissions on the folder I had it in were a little janky!
If you can't get it to launch, try one of these solutions:
My permissions are a little messed up as I've recently had to keep pulling my files off and replacing them because my hard drive is failing (Exit Code 8!) but I'm toostingy poor to have Apple put a new one in, but these steps should help anyone with permission problems.
I've heard theres some apps that automagically fix file permission issues, but I've never used them and cannot vouch for their efficacy.

I'm looking through the "DIY" guide to see if theres any discrepancies, and I'm currently downloading WS9Wine2.22 to see if that helps (I had WS9Wine1.11)

I found the problem! The file permissions on the folder I had it in were a little janky!
If you can't get it to launch, try one of these solutions:
Run First Aid on your drive
1) Open Disk Utility by searching in Spotlight or finding it in Applications > Utilities.
2) Select your drive, usually called "Macintosh HD".
3) Click First Aid in the bar on the top of the window.
4) Press "Yes/OK" if it warns that the computer may slow down while the test is running. It is possible this could happen, especially if you put the computer under heavy load while it's running. The test should take no more than 5 minutes.
5) Keep running it until it stops giving errors (The "Exit Code" should be 0).
6) Try opening Osu! again.
NOTE: Quite unlikely, but if the Exit Code is 8, or it complains of being unable to fix the drive, back up all of your data immediately and be prepared to take your computer to Apple for servicing (or be prepared to fix it yourself, where possible).

3) At the bottom, extend "Sharing and Permissions".
4) Click the lock and enter an Admin password (if needed).
5) Select your username in the list and ensure it says "Read & Write".
6) Select the System item in the list and ensure it has Read & Write permissions.
7) If the folder is shared, or you are part of multiple usergroups, use the plus icon to add these to the list and give them Read & Write too.
8) Click the lock again, then try opening the app.
You can also use this method on the Osu!.app itself, but I prefer to re-perm the whole folder.

Even if you've not left it in Downloads, you might have issues opening it for similar "system integrity" reasons, so:

My permissions are a little messed up as I've recently had to keep pulling my files off and replacing them because my hard drive is failing (Exit Code 8!) but I'm too
I've heard theres some apps that automagically fix file permission issues, but I've never used them and cannot vouch for their efficacy.
Hope this can help anyone who's struggling to open the app!
Update the osu!installer/updater (Particularly the "osu.exe" file) so it supports newer versions of osu!.

I was able to get it to work on high Sierra as early as summer of 2017
I think you had to download 2 things, run osu in those 2 things, then delete those 2 things before running osu again
However, doing that had tons of bugs, so thanks a ton for this. Its much better than before and I will even claim that osu is basically now officially for Mac with this update

osu!Lazer will run natively on OSX and will not require a Wineskin package.

I'm on HighSierra(10.13) and when I download open the application and verifies the app, and click open after the warning on an unknown developer, nothing happens and I have no idea why. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Sorry to post so late but I seem to have found a new problem. The Beatmaps I add, aswell as the default beatmaps vanquish from the Menu after I play one or restart Osu.

Steps
- First you'll need to save your osu! data so you can transfer it over later. See my guide here on How to do a data backup (apply it on the old osu! app): https://osu.ppy.sh/community/forums/topics/679205
- Download the package from the previously shown download link
- Extract the .zip file
- Move the osu! application out of the Downloads folder otherwise it will not start properly
- Run (double click) on the osu! app. The osu! updater should run and start osu! after a while
- Close osu!

Now you can move the downloaded osu! application anywhere you want and it should work fine.
If you are having issues after you see the osu! logo/updater please include the osu! updater logs found in osu! > Logs.
If you are having issues before you see the osu! logo/updater please include the Wineskin test run logs found after running a test run. (osu! > Open Package Contents > Wineskin > Advanced > Test Run)
Troubleshooting
For those that are unable to open the osu!.exe file, such as nothing popping up, try moving the zip file (NOTE: Not the application, but the zip file containing the application) to another location, such as your Desktop or the Documents folder. Then, right click the application and select "Open". While this may seem redundant, this has a different effect to directly double clicking the file.
To update the osu!.exe contained within the wrapper, right click the wrapper and select: Show Package Contents, then Contents > Resources > drive_c > osu! folder.
Download the latest osu!.exe for Windows from the osu! website and then replace the osu!.exe in the folder with the downloaded one.
Please note that if I do not reply to your post, I either do not know how to fix your problem or you haven't provided enough information. I'm just a 15 year old enthusiastic about osu!

If the window setting did not work but actually is in a window size look then leave it at that rate then exit osu!.Reopen osu! again then it should be in window mode properly. There you can insert skins and beatmaps

restart your client or run the updater (by going to the main menu, for some reason it always runs the updater when you go to main menu) and it'll just work
Hey, a while back i had osu! on my macbook and it was fine then of course one day after an update it stopped blah blah blah, same problem everyone else had. Then i found your osu! for Mac OSX High Sierra and i downloaded it and everything was fine. Then, i tried opening osu! one day and it either wouldn't open or i could hear the game but the screen was either black or white. I deleted it and reinstalled it and it stuck loading halfway saying "Verifying 'osu!'" and it the loading bar wont move an inch. I dont know what to do about it.
I accidentally enabled Compatibility Mode and now osu! won't launch! Do you know how to fix this? I also totally backed up my account and totally know how to do it
