NIS America, Gust, Nippin Ichi, SEGA, Compile Hearts...

I want this game, but I'm going to look at the gameplay first.
Mafiamaster
Game looks awesome provided that they have the japanese voice option. NIS & Gust games are the shit.
Since my PS3 stopped reading discs altogether, hopefully I can get a new one before then.
Mogsy
I thought it looked okay at best, but the battle system seems kinda simple. Customization is key, though, because this is a Gust game. I can count on it probably being at least passable. Still gonna wait for individual consensuses before playing.
Ivalset
I'll play like any gust game.

Any new-ish gust game.

Edit: Oh yeah, I finished the maingame of Golden Sun. Wow, final boss felt like what a normal boss should have. I went in there with my normal crew of Karis/Himi/Sveta/Matthew as Guru/Master/Gladiator/Ronin (something along those lines, at least), and shit went downhill pretty fast since I had 0 party healing and only one reviver, and djinn blast was just not fun times. So I switched the earth adepts to paladins and switched Karis back to her main class and cruised through pretty easy. I wish the other bosses in the game required actual thought.

Actually, I think the only boss in the game where I felt in danger of losing was the first group of soldiers with psy grenades, those guys almost ruined me.

I'll probably finish off crossbone isle then be done with it. Still missing 3 djinn and a few summon tablets but I don't even care.

If you think Djinn Blast is bad, wait until you see what Dullahan like to do. He's kind of a bastard even if you're prepared.
Ivalset
I don't even think djinn blast is bad. Every boss in the game should be using that, at least.

I'm a little disgusted that I could ease through the entire game without planning much of anything. I mean, my final boss strategy was "use pure wish".

Playing other mmos right now, but I have an eight hour car drive back to alabama on sunday, so I'll tackle Dullahan then.
Bestelle
Had a nice 30-40 min boss fight with Dullahan, it was fairly fun. Djinni Blast everywhere, also fuck Charon and it's random soul draining.

That ice queen bitch had me going when I faced her. She was the first "hard" boss fight in the game only because she fucking one-hit killed Tyrell on her very first kiss thing. Total bitch. I was disappointed with the last boss' song. That doesn't even belong in the same universe as the Doom Dragon theme.

Anyway, I cannot get Vash to stop leveling up like a beast in Resonance. He is 8/10 levels higher than Zephyr/Leanne. And the worst part about it is that he's my least favorite character.
Ivalset
Vashyron owns, he's awesome. I can't say he's better than the others because I have equal love for all of them.

Easy way to level is to switch weapons around. Beware, it'll just make the rest of the game easier, it's not balanced for level-grinding.

Oh, also, you can switch character positions in the menu. Make him third to go, and put your machine gunner in top position. If Vashyron is your machine gunner, then that is pretty much why he is leveling like a beast. Generally two people will be high level; the scratcher and the main source of direct damage. Third person usually ends up just doing utility/knockbacks and set up for tri-attacks.

Man, I've been playing for 35 hours or something now. I totally know all of that stuff. The reason Vash is such a high level is cause he is my MG user, but I don't have a second high level cause I try to keep Zephyr and Leanne equal. So for every level they both get, Vash gets twice as much experience. Then when his HG gets too high, I switch him to rookie grenades and those levels just skyrocket, so now he's just ridiculously leveled.
Ivalset
Well, okay! It sounded there was some confusion as to why so I felt compelled to explain needlessly!

I always had Leanne as my highest level because she was my machine gunner and grenadier. Her dual sub machine gun skill activation animation when running past an enemy is the greatest. She like does a flip in the air while shooting, lands on her knees and turns around, all while still shooting. It looks like that one move from Bayonetta, except more badass somehow.

This is it. Also at 2:36.

Oh wow, that is pretty badass. The battle animations are half of what make this game so damn awesome. If they just ran around with boring camera angles, shooting like normal, this game would suck. I haven't been doing any dual-wielding yet cause I don't wanna sacrifice customization to make room for a second gun like that. Maybe once I have way more weight capacity, but that'll take a while.
Ivalset
Yeah, it's only really worth it when you can fit enough scopes on both so that your initial charge time isn't complete ass. Then it gets much better once you can fit on all your crazy barrels and magazines.

Once you have enough weight capacity for it to not be an issue, it's still debatable whether dual smg's is better than single smg+magazine case. Correctly selected ammunition makes a huge difference and one smg will always have higher stats compared to the average of two smgs since one is always slightly inferior to the other. But two drum magazines puts out a shitload of bullets...

I dual wielded smg's in my first playthrough then used single smg/ammo in my second playthrough since weight is a pretty huge issue at low levels. You should pretty much always dual wield handguns, though.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Yeah, that's the thing that's keeping me from dual-wielding SMGs. Armor Piercing is so damn useful and you can't do that any other way with an SMG. Why would I need to dual-wield HG though? So far I've only been using them to take off scratch damage with one hit, so I like having a high charge time just so I can hit multiple enemies in one run. There are only special occasions where the HG's skills are even useful right now, too. Unless there's something I don't know...

Just Cause 2 is amazing on PC. It has a small modding community and it's one of the few games worth using a trainer for because infinite grappling hooks and unbreakable grappling hooks.
It can also make the PS3 version look terrible if you have a good enough PC and that's quite a feat.

Gauge breaking is extremely useful since it stuns enemies and forces them to give up more bezels. Additionally, it's easier to juggle enemies while dual-wielding since you're putting out up to double the bullets.

If you're gauge breaking, more bullets = much higher chance of breaking and a higher chance of multiple breaks. If you're juggling/converting scratch, you can just do a bunch of single charges to hopefully get them off their feet.

Yeah, I actually learned why gauge-breaking is halfway decent today. I was fighting Bigfoot in the arena for the first time and I got my SMG user frozen and the bastard was just camping and freezing him a bunch, so I used dual-wielding Leanne to stun him until Zephyr got unfrozen. Then after the fight, I realized Vash had a fucking First Aid Kit the whole damn time. But yeah, so far I don't really need gauge-breaking and stunning that much. My guys are at such a high level right now that I can just scratch bosses with one or two full charges. I'm sure it'll get useful with more ridiculous bosses though.

I don't think Rolled has the second one. Either that or he just doesn't play it much. It's some random guy on my list that has it for sure though. And Just Cause 2 is fucking awesome. PS3 version's great just for the video recording.

Most games would be better on PC (assuming, in this case, you can hook a playstation controller to your PC) because of modding. That's why I don't want to buy games like Fallout 3 for PS3. I just need those mods. They extend the life of the game and, in Fallout's case, offer a much more balanced gameplay experience.

Dual SMG is absolutely the best. If it weren't for AP rounds, the magazine case could blow me. And dual HG actually isn't too bad. It's not like I really need grenades that often.

God, these arenas are so damn boring. Can't say they aren't leveling me up cause of these terminals, but still. It's pretty dumb that you get access to rank 40 at chapter 9. I mean, you think they could spread these out a bit.
Ivalset
I never even bothered with the arena. Was too lazy on my first playthrough.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
The arena actually has some enemies that drop really decent stuff, like various scrapped parts for tinkering. I've got 5 terminals linked to the arena right now, so I get a high drop rate and 3x XP, so that's cool.

So I want to know if anybody has tried jailbreaking their PS3 yet.

I believe it was first hacked a few months ago after 3 years+ of release, and it's possible to run homebrew and "backups" on both internal and external HDs. You need to have an older firmware somewhere along the lines of 3.41, and a downgrading tool has recently been released so jailbreaking is getting more mainstream. I haven't read too much into it, but I know of people hacking ps3's with iDevices, calculators, and some mod chip that I guess costs 150$. I dunno i will read up on it now and update this post with anything interesting. Anybody played around, though?

viewtopic.php?p=649880#p649880 @ Rolled

yeah, people have figured out how to sign things on the PS3, meaning low-level access to the system. Any console currently on the market is capable and cannot be firmware-update'd out (so they say)

tl;dr: buffer overflow vulnerabilities and a random number generator generating the same random number every time

God damn, it hasn't taken me this long to beat a game since FFXIII. 75 hours and I just started chapter 11. It's those damn arenas. I have star'd 42 of the ranks now, though. Super fucking boring. Anyway, the story's actually starting to get kinda cool, if only for Zephyr's storyline.
Ivalset

Don't forget you have to beat the game a second time as well!
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Dude, beating the game a second time is one of the easiest things on there. I get to ignore every sidequest and arena and I don't have to grind for any reason. I'm not really looking forward to Neverland though, but I bet it won't be too bad. If it wasn't for these trophies, I probably wouldn't be as ridiculously overleveled as I am right now, and I love being ridiculously overleveled.
Ivalset
Just saying it'll probably pull another 20-30 hours out of you!

I really hate being overleveled though, zero challenge.

Need to finish my third playthrough actually. I want to get to the last difficulty eventually, but that might take a while.

Yeah, I figured you probably liked a challenge or something. I like being so overpowered that I can make any enemy my bitch though. I hate that it takes the same amount of XP to level up a grenade. They're so annoying to use.

Anyway dude, the boss in chapter 11 was pretty kickass. He really threw me for a loop when he started teleporting and shit. And Zephyr's even more awesome than I thought now.
Ivalset
Yeah, I kind of disliked Zephyr the most out of the three at first, but by the end of the game he was pretty awesome.

The last chapter is just fantastic for all of the boss dialogue lines. I refuse to spoil any of it for you but you're in for a treat.

I don't see what's so annoying about grenades though. It's just like leveling pistols.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Well, you can't upgrade them, unless you want to waste your better grenades for leveling, so their charge speed is always shit, and even if you do a hero jump, it'll only hit whatever body part you're facing, so you've got to throw it perfectly at the main body, so only certain enemies are really good for leveling grenades.
Ivalset
Just jump over them and lob a few. Easy money.

I always used molotov cocktails because they fuckin' own all the time. Burn is too good.

also i feel like an arsonist using them
Topic Starter

Ok, I'm triple-posting, but I'm tired of waiting for a combo breaker.

So that second playthrough of RoF was hardly 20 hours. It was more like 5 horus and 20 minutes. Got my Plat.

The day before I did that playthrough, I got Singularity since I haven't played a true, blue, and new FPS since MW2 (New Vegas doesn't count). I've played that a bit today and I gotta say it's not as crappy as I thought it'd be. The controls are actually really decent and smooth and the guns aren't bad at all. I half-expected this game to be a shitstorm of horrible, but it's really as decent as any other FPS I've played. I think awp might enjoy this game since it really tries to be like Bioshock. It's the the luggage searching, E99 upgrades (aka Adam upgrades), gun uprades, stuff like that. And the game's a little scarier than I thought it'd be, too. It's not like Dead Space, but I was tense in the beginning because someone designed a pea shooter to look exactly like a gun, then I got to use that pea gun to shoot things twice my size.
Ivalset
Oh, you played it again on normal didn't you? You're such a little bitch.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Well of course I did. I have absolutely no intention of wasting an additional cockload of time to beat hard. It's only a 1.2 damage multiplier difference anyway, and the only reason to beat a harder difficulty would be to keep beating harder difficulties, and I don't feel like beating the same game 10 times.
Ivalset
Well, it's damage and health and probably some other things.

still a bitch
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
No, it's pretty much just damage and health. Not worth resetting all my damn levels and equipment. Took forever to do all that shit. Also, my friend got the Plat in 18 days, and I was on day 16 or 17 or whatever trying to beat that. And I got Singularity used before I finished Resonance, so I wanna try to beat that so I can just return it in a week. And I couldn't do Hard mode before getting Singularity, cause there was a nice 50% trade-in thing going on this week. And after I finish Singularity, I still have Castle Crashers and Shank. And by then new games will have started coming out. But if I ever felt like playing the game from the beginning again, I could always do Hard mode.

I've heard good things about singularity. At least, entertaining things. I might have been mistaking it for something else, but I hear the "It's a lot like Bioshock" comment getting passed around, which might be a token worth value once I play Bioshock 2 and then have the urge to play something else that's like Bioshock.

Yeah, it's incredibly like Bioshock, except easier. Definitely easier. And the story's kinda stupid, too, but it doesn't really matter. This game has this pretty sweet rifle that lets you guide the bullet as it flies through the air and it explodes on impact, and you get to see the guy's body part or head fly off before you go back to normal view. And catching rockets to toss back at enemies is pretty amusing. As cool as some of these weapons are, though, half of them are useless. You just use the assault rifle, shotgun, and gatling gun the whole time. Except for special sniper needs.

Edit: Ok, the endgame is pretty fucking fun.

Absolutely anything on Earth is better than Splatterhouse. Besides, I like the first Force Unleashed, and the only complaint I hear about FU2 is that it's ridiculously short, which doesn't really bug me. As long as it's fun like the first one was. I actually want a short game right now, cause LBP2 is just around the corner.

So Force Unleashed II was pretty cool, but man, people aren't kidding when they say it's shoooort. You can beat the whole thing in a day. A really lax day of mild play. Now I'm just dicking around until LBP2 comes out. By the way, awp, are you getting that game? I know you liked the first one.

And also, it occurred to me recently that the second incarnation of the 360 thread died in two days. I knew it wouldn't last, but damn, two days...

Not that that's a bad thing.

Mass Effect II on ps3 next week.

I tried playing FFXIII a few days ago after not playing it for a while. Gameovers left and right, I don't know if I was just under-leveled or I just sucked. I did skipped a lot of enemies and didn't grind too much but heck, I was even getting frequent gameovers on the trash! One of the things that I got irritated with was when I retried after a gameover, some big monster would swoop in and engage me again which lead to another gameover.

I did get my first platinum trophy on another game called Altelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland. Thank goodness I don't have to play that again. First playthrough was pretty cool, but afterwards it's just a matter of collecting the trophies. No fun replay value there. Went through 37 save files to get everything I needed for the plat! Trophies are cool. I play PS3 games for their trophies.

Hyperdimension Neptune - Feb 15th is the release date (I think). Will probably be getting this. Saw gameplay and looked a lot like Trinity Universe which was a bit "fun" for me at least. Turn base but able to execute commands while attacking = Awesome. (But not Cross Edge, hated it. Mainly because of the non PS3 graphics and all it's weird mechanics and lagginess.)

Gran Pulse is loaded with enemies that will readily destroy you. It's a bit hard to gauge what will and what won't. Never under-estimate the value of buffs/debuffs. Debrave is fucking vicious - it's not some pitiful 50% damage modifier; I got hit with that against some avian foe and went from 4k to 600 damage a shot (which is still poor damage given Fang's sloppy 20ks)

I've been destroying adamantoises for a bit with Sazh, and the drop rate on Plats is a hell of a lot better than I was led to believe. I recall reading that it was like, 5%, but in my experiences is more in the ballpark of 40%. I also finally got a trap, so I can go about cloning it and building some endgame gear.

Sazh so OP

I do intend to get LBP2, for sure. I don't play LBP1 enough (probably due to my irl friends being primarily Mario gamers and I dislike anon-online play) but I certainly enjoy it. Of course, I've got no intent to buy it on launch; 60 dollar price tags are not my cup of tea. Ditto Mass Effect 2. It looks like a fun third person shooter.

That's exactly where I was trying to grind, lol. Once I first got there, I completed the first mission then decided to go farther into the story. Those robots pretty much obliterated me after using their "upgrade version" move. My debuffer (Vanille) probably isn't good enough yet though because I don't think she even has that skill you mentioned (or even a lot of debuffing skills yet).

Ivalset wrote:

Did you just rebirth every chance you got right at 50? Some person a month ago on it told me to wait until GR10 before doing that, though of course I don't see a problem with rebirthing early. I'd rather be gaining both exp and gr then just gr. The way we handled that one Gigas was pretty awesome. You made him sleep and we just started buffing/debuffing. I was laughing because I've never seen that happen in the game before. Usually everyone just wails on him full group-wise. I stopped using those salves because they almost never really work for me. But seeing you, it's like 100% chance. Maybe I'll try it out later... much later.
Ivalset
Sleep tip is one of the tricks I learned while duo'ing stuff with a divine/elemental mage. Makes those duo fights a lot more reasonable. I wouldn't really bother with the other tips too much. Stun tip works sometimes as well but it's a lot harder to land.

There was a good reason to wait for gr10, though I can't for the life of me remember what it is. I think it's the third version of the spider mission at GR10. Everything's level 50 and it only takes like an hour or so to go from 35-50. I just exploded shit with Immolate I think. There's a room in the mission that has like 9 waterspider sprogs, it's the first boss room. But you can kill all of them, then wait 2 minutes and they'll respawn again. So basically you surf the internet then whack em all for awesome exp.

I'm not sure if it's really that amazing now, with all the new quests and such. Before I hit GR10, I used King of Dragons II and circled through the fire and ice elemental areas. Usually by the time I finished a full circle, they'd start respawning. Was also a great source of elemental shit!

But yeah, I didn't wait for my rebirthing. Might as well get them out of the way, they'll make you a lot more powerful with all the passives.

I'm surprised that you're interested in Mass Effect 2. Have you tried the demo? The combat is some of the most blatant cover-based shooting I've seen. You really have to duck into cover way more than you actually get to shoot. You'll probably get to upgrade that, but I don't see it making much of a difference. And the weird thing about aiming is, like, you can only shoot what's "targetted". So weird. Those are the two things that are keeping me from dropping $60 on it.

It's an rpg first and a tps second.

Also, charging shit as a vanguard will never get old.

I kinda agree with this as I played the first one when my brother brought home his Xbox. But yeah, I couldn't really get into it as it was just too boring and the story didn't really grab me.

Also, I have LBP2 pre-ordered and I'm hoping to grab it on the day it comes out as long as my Gamestop isn't gay and gets it in late.

The Mass Effect games are regarded very highly. I'm hoping there's a reason for it.

The game tries to put emphasis on cover-based combat but I don't have anything to do with that shit. I just use walls for cover while holding the aim button and just move until my enemy is in my line of sight.

RE4 is probably the best TPS I've played/seen and it doesn't have any of that cover garbage (except in a couple places in the last chapter, I think) and whenever playing TPSs henceforth, I try to play them as if they're RE4 with better mobility

We are talking about ME2, right? The game that limited its RPG elements compared to the first one? Just making sure. It was an okay TPS, but lacking in RPG elements.

Mass Effect is widely regarded, but it really could have been so much more IMO.
Ivalset
Depends on your definition of RPG elements!

I can appreciate that it's an RPG, but if over 70% of the game movement and combat, then I want it to at least be enjoyable. Like Fallout. And I don't mind cover-based shooters at all. But I wanna be able to shoot for more than 2 seconds without losing my shield on the easiest fucking difficulty. When you're spending 75% of your combat time waiting for your shield to recharge, something's lame.
Ivalset
What? That just means you're bad.

Maybe you should switch weapons or something. What class were you using?

Fucked if I can remember. I think it was Vanguard, or whichever one was specialized in weapons that don't suck. Didn't really think it mattered all that much for a demo. And I'm not bad at TPS's. I think I've played enough of those on the hardest difficulty to qualify as being good at them. It's not my fault that I can't shoot people I point my gun directly at half the time. Heaven forbid my bullet ever travels more than 20 feet. Like that time I was trying to get rid of a rocket launcher guy, but he was too far to the right or something, so he wouldn't get targetted. Fucking balls to that.
Ivalset
I don't really know what to tell you. It sounds like you were using an inappropriate weapon for the range you were fighting at. Vanguards specialize in shotguns and charging into enemies and fucking them up. Also a bit of biotics. You should really use biotics.

I didn't have any problems pistol'ing down the rocket launcher guys, so...
awp
oh I used the sniper rifle and picked them off pretty effortlessly

actually I was a bit surprised/impressed by my marksmanship with Dual Analog
Ivalset
Vanguards can't use snipers!!!!!!

but it's ok because charge is fuckin' awesome and so are shotguns
Pokebis
Whelp, I'm running the black road.

PSN is still okay... For now...

Well, the demo didn't really have a shotgun, did it? I think I would've used it if there was one since it's my favorite play-style most of the time. The only other weapon I remember gettings was an assault rifle and a useless piece of junk heavy pistol thing. There was a lot about the game that I didn't get time to fully understand either. Like different ammo types pretty much flew over my head. Do you only get, like, one shot or something? And I thought Overload was supposed to make gas tanks explode, but that never seemed to work, so maybe I got that wrong, too.
Ivalset
Yes, there definitely was a shotgun. You only have access to weapon types you can use, so it's quite possible you weren't a vanguard, then. Sentinels and Engineers are limited to Heavy Pistols and Submachine Guns. Sentinels get some crazy tech armor shit that increases your shields and explodes when it's destroyed. Engineers get some combat drones or something. Both also get access to Overload, not sure if you were saying you had access to it or Miranda did.

Ammo selection is permanent until you toggle it off. Vanguards had access to Incendiary ammo in the demo, and it was pretty easy to see if it was on or off, since the ammo glowed red and there was an energy cell dealie on the weapon that switches to red when you activate it.

Seems like overload is supposed to explode gas tanks, not sure what went wrong! Maybe it wasn't a gas tank or maybe you misclicked or maybe it was fucked up in the demo!

Whelp, guys. Remember how after you beat FFXIII, you were thinking "Wow, there are just so many questions I have left. This story is so open-ended! This game was so short! I don't want it to end!" Well Final Fantasy XIII-2 is coming this year to satisify all of your burning desires! Ugh... At least it'll be better than FFX-2.

Here's the so-so trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvZFmOhnA1s

Steam is for PS3 now, or is going to be very soon. I don't know if this is news. I don't entirely see a point to it, unless the PS3 gets to enjoy Steam sales, because 3.75 for Super Meat Boy on a PS2 controller for the PC is a hell of a lot more value to me than 15.00 for Super Meat Boy on a PS3 controller for the PS3. I mean, Valve's doing the whole "if you buy it on PS3, you get the PC version too!", which would be awesome if Valve made non-FPS games, which quite frankly, have no home for me on a game machine without a mouse and keyboard.

I saw the news about FF13-2. Claire's open-leg suit of armour doesn't seem like a good design decision, both against the implement of weapons and character. She was fortunately on the non-skanky side for FF13, but if they take it in the direction they did with X-2, we're not only looking at an uncharacteristically skanky bitch, we're going to be joined by another skank nobody gives a shit about and Sazh will get demoted to a secondary cameo story character like that poor bastard Wakka.

Granted that's probably not where they're going with it, since they said they were aiming for it to be an improvement in more ways than "just the battle mechanics". A full suit of skank armour isn't the right direction to take, though.

Oh man, fuck FFXIII-2 cause we have THIS. ACTUAL GAMEPLAY FOR ONCE.
Ivalset
FFX-2 was a good game with an unbearable story.

I think both FFXIII-2 and FFXIII Versus are going to be great.

As for the steam shit, I'm just glad cross-platform is in and all that. More excited about what it means further down the road.

Also, I just bought Mass Effect 2 and I'm downloading it now. Selphie, you should give the demo another shot and play a class that owns, like Vanguard, Infiltrator or whatever the "i like guns" class is. Because I bet you love guns.
awp
So FF Versus 13 is Kingdom Hearts with less colour? I can live with that.

Anyone else have/getting LBP2?
I "have it working online."

Yeah, I've been playing LBP2 today. Pretty fun stuff. There's quite a bit different from LBP1. Although it's way too hard to just simply find a list of all of your friends in-game.

Edit: Holy shit, Clive Handforth is fucking awesome.

I got LBP2 and I think it's much improved on the first. They added so much stuff, both in the story and for users to use, it just overall has a better feel. My only gripe is that I can't import my stuff from the first game as the file was copied off of a different PS3 since we had to replace it.

PG_Rhydderch. Add me to PSN, people.

Just got my hands on 3D Dot Game Heroes and White Knight Chronicles, 'cause they were cheap and I wanted to try them out. Well, time to see how they are.

It won't let me!!! Add me instead or something: Ivalsetto

WKC's story mode is absolutely shitty, but the online is honestly pretty fun if you get into it. Additionally, most of the issues with the first game are fixed in the second (most notably action ring speed, amongst a pile of other changes).

I can help you out in online and give you general tips and other shit. It's a surprisingly complex game and it's pretty easy to drop 350+ hours into it.
