Installation: Once a pack has been downloaded, extract the .rar into your osu! Songs directory. All songs are still .zip'd and/or .osz'd inside the pack, so osu! will need to extract the beatmaps itself the next time you go into Play mode. Do NOT extract the zip's/osz's yourself, or the beatmaps will display incorrectly in osu and will not function properly.

It doesn't say HOW to extract it. On my computer rar files just look like blank documents...
finally~ I got it to work ^^ (you weren't any help)

No need to be absolutely rude. A .rar file can be extracted via WinRAR or 7-Zip.

When he says Song directory, this is what he means:
C:\Program Files\osu!\Songs
THAT is where you extract the files to using one of the means I mentioned. You may have already figured it out, but your attitude is uncalled for.

There's nearly 3000 ranked maps. http://osu.ppy.sh/p/beatmaplist&s=4&r=0

Just sort by a genre and/or language that you like or search for songs that you already know. :|

I downloaded a beatmap pack and osu keeps saying it doesnt know how to deal with the file and the files a .rar why? i got it right off the webisite

You should read the site (page) you got if off of

Can I add like folder or something in the song folder to categorize the beatmap the way I like it ?
Too many beatmap make it a little difficult to find...
just a little, because I did use the search option....

Sorry for the necro bump.. I have one question that I didnt see anyone ask yet. When we put the zip file into the directory and then strat osu and it goes and does the unpacking/loading of the new beatmaps, can I go in afterwards and delete the zips from the songs folder ?

hello on the point of the .rar file i'v try alot of differnt ways but non are working, i'v tryed using a differnt web browser and still faild,
this is what i'v done for the download, using firefox (lastest)
1) download beatmap 84
2)open with program osu!
3) downloading the pack
4)open osu! faild to load / doing the same as befor just with osu! open still faild

5)download beatmap 84
6)save file ~ brose c//os/program(x86)/osu!/songs
7)open osu! faild to load / same steps above but with osu! open

8)try in IE-9 web browser still faild

While osu! loads all the new beatmaps it should unpack all the zips into your song folder so you shouldn't have any zipped files left in there? No you can't delete the song folders in there after osu loads it, it still needs it to play the song if you mean that.

Just putting the .rar in the folder won't work. You need a program like WinRar or 7Zip to extract it into the song folder then refresh osu!
Make sure to read directions at the top of this too

Only BATs can put maps into ranked/approved, if you want your map Ranked or Approved, get it modded, then bubbled and finally ranked, here's a small guide on the whole process: viewtopic.php?f=56&t=17043

I need help I accidently deleted my map while trying to make the file size smaller but I deleted my beatmap instead so how can I put my deleted beatmap back into osu? Can someone help because I worked hard on my beatmap so please help.

You posted that in this thread, why?

If you've uploaded it, then download it again. If it's not in your recycle bin and you don't have a means to recover deleted files, then you're out of luck. Just map the song again and you might even find yourself doing a better job than before.

Oh my goodness gracious, it's crazy to see a post from 7-years-ago me here.

.osz files are basically osu! beatmaps. You'll need to download any beatmap you'd like from here, and the file that's downloaded would be an .osz file. That very file is where you'll then go do the next steps.

Alternatively, you can also drag the .osz file and drop it straight into the game!

If the file somehow happens to be a .zip file, rename the file extension to .osz type. You can figure out how to do that from here. Here's a full guide for newbies that probably explains it better than I do.

Due to the age of this topic, I don't really feel any new posts would be very productive... Unless you want to keep redirecting people to the Newbie Guide or something.

Find at Start Menu: Folder Options

Then: View >> Uncheck "Hide extensions for known type files"
Then Apply and Accept

Change extension to (beatmap file).osz

For the next time, ask in Help forum

Hey, guys! I have a question. My friend copied his beatmaps and I pasted that in osu directory folder. Now I want to add some beatmaps directly in osu (drag and drop)! What if I import a beatmap that I already have from my friend? Will this beatmap delete or will make two copies of them? Thanks a lot for reply. Have a nice day!
