Never using the beatmap editor again...

I have a ton of fun playing osu! and decided to try my hand at creating a beatmap on my spare time. It was quite the learning experience, probably took me about 6 hours to complete my first song, redoing several parts of it as I learned new tricks with the editor. I saved often, I know well of the frustrations when something less than expected happens and you lose your progress. But anyways, fact is I finished the beatmap and saved it.

But when I hit escape to exit the editor and do my first full playthrough of the song in solo mode, it BSOD my computer and it reset. I was thinking, well its ok, i saved. When my computer rebooted I loaded up osu! and went to play my song in solo, it was there and I clicked on it to play. The beatmap was completly wiped clean, just as when I had created it. But that doesnt make sense. I saved, saved often, saved a good deal before the BSOD.

Mind you i've had my rig built for about 3 weeks now completly stable and no BSOD's or silent resets. Its running semi-top of the line stuff (ati4870, amd 9950BE etc etc)...

Eh, whatever. It was interesting to play around with. also found it interesting an unexpected shutdown of osu! somehow wiped all data associated with my beatmap after being saved. Should the saved file even be open for read/right while its not even being accessed at the time? But im not here for support or help, just to let out a little frustration in a rant few will actually read to the end.

 Back to playing online

imo people that play and dont map are lame

but thats probably just me

also if you uploaded it for modding, you might've been able to save it
it's not osu's fault you were being irresponsible :|

If it makes you feel any better, I haven't had a blue screen of death since I upgraded out of windows 98.

Just do what I do with my 3D scenes: Make a backup once in a while to an external drive.

Why how judgmental of you. Well for the record I was new to the whole thing and didn't know what I was doing so why would i upload it? I was playing around with it. At least I tried... right?

Anyways i'm giving it another go, with external backups. Hopefully it will go a little more smoother this time around.

This happened to me, and the thing had at least six timing sections and everything. I always back mine up from now on. :(

It's good to know my osu! technical woes aren't alone.
