I tested 2 songs from here, one showed a screen full of yellowish orange circles and immediately went to the results screen (Pop star)

The other one showed the same screen, but the song did play, but I got a lot of X-es (because not every circle showed up)

Also, my life bar ALWAYS fills up to the top when I hit a single circle.

I have never seen this happen.. seems very strange though.

Could you provide details about the PC your are running it on? Also, can you try testing when you do not have any other applications running other than osu?

Edit: Also try disabling video just in case it is causing problems - many codecs do wacky things I haven't handled properly yet.

Same problem. I only see orange balls. Must be a codec problem.

....Wow

I can't even begin to think of how this could happen.

Does the menu work ok? Does gameplay still go ahead despite the slider balls being visible? Does edit mode work as expected? Anything else you can see that looks out of place?

Also - does disabling video in the options menu help at all?

Yep, that was my first impression too. heheh

Well, I tried to disable the video option, but it still doesn't work properly (I still see those balls). The rest works fine, though.
By the way... osu uses ffdshow, right? Should the ffdshow icon appear in the taskbar while playing? Everytime I play an application that uses those codecs, the ffdshow icon appears, showing that it is being used. I can't see that icon while playing osu.
My codecs are more or less up to date. I can try later downloading new ones.

ps. my pc is pretty good, so that can't be the problem.

Have you tried since the update about 20 minutes ago? I am hoping that maybe I fixed this bug as well. Could you please give it another try?
[deleted user]
Yes, now it works perfectly. Thanks for your great work, peppy.

SCORE! So happy about this one :D

I still wonder what you did in order to fix that... haha

ps. I re-activated now the video option. Should a video be seen at the background? I still see that message "Video playback failed - ..." (im playing with the Asian kung-fu generation song)

edit. oops, i wanted to edit, not quoting my own message. lol

It was a problem with reading the osu file format on different localities. This meant that sliders were incorrectly read in (because they use numbers with decimal points) and they somehow all appeared at the same time because of this.

Its all fixed now, anyways :)

You will need to go into ffdshow configuration and activate it as an active codec for XViD (set decoder to libavcodec) and possibly a few others depending on song. Also - if this still doesn't work, check under DirectShow control in ffdshow configuration and make sure "Use ffdshow only in:" is unticked
[deleted user]
Well, I unticked that last thing you said, but I'm a little bit confused with activating the Xvid as an active codec. Isn't it yet activated?

ps. zomg! After playing osu a few times, I decide to quit, and... wham! My pc reboots :|

Ok, i had the orange balls bug and now is solved but now they don't even appear nor their tracks, so I never know when I need to slide them, in wich way should I do it and becaouse ot it some songs can't be played at all.

I mean when they appear they do it them alone, and slide by themselves, but i never know when are they going to appear and is messy.

I would have to say that this can't be osu!'s fault... but tell me if it happens multiple times.

This is a bug which is being fixed - it is caused by older video cards which are unable to support some DX9 rendering techniques. A fix is planned to be available by Sunday (its a large one to fix because it involves rewriting the Slider rendering code from scratch). As for when the balls appear - you can predict this due to the incoming approach circle which shrinks into the start point of the slider. The only real bug you mentioned is that you can't see the guiding path behind them.

Out of interest - what graphics card are you using to play?
BSOrchid
I use an Ati Radeon 9250

Thanks.

Don't leave us - you can expect a fix as I said by around Sunday.

Today I played osu and surprisingly, the video playback worked. I think a reboot was needed, like the one I had yesterday, all of a sudden. That auto-reboot is still a mistery for me. :/
peppy
Has the reboot happened again? I'm guessing it was just a graphics card driver glitch.... hopefully!
