I think this would be nice, but when I mentioned it to Peppy, he turned the idea down.
A temporary solution is to go into your Program Files (or wherever you installed Osu!) and go to Songs, then find the folder of the song with the background you wish to hide. The background is usually a .jpg or .png file. To get rid of it, you have a few options:
-Delete the image
-Rename the file extension (.jpg to .jpgx is what I do) so that you can use the image later if you so choose
-Put a new image file in the song folder and make the filename identical to the old one, and that will become the new background
