We will be using the same submission form to gather the entries throughout the stages. It is available in the first post with large text and on the bottom under "Important links". I suggest bookmarking it!
Congrats to all participants that made it to Stage 1! Can't wait to see what you come up with next
The quality this time round was a lot better than anticipated and those who didn't make it this time can certainly hold their head high. Wish you take in some of the feedbacks and keep on improving, aim for Idol 2016
It's a shame that non of the duets made it to the next round though. While there're a few nice submissions, they're just not quite sharp enough when pitted against high quality solo that we're seeing this year. I'll share a few "thoughts" here and, useful or not, hopefully inspire someone to create a future masterpiece
These are just things that I thought could be improved upon through observations. I'm not a music major so I won't be using official terminologies, take what I'm about to say with a pinch of salt
Duets are very different from solo, it's the chemistry between singers that can create works of bang. The most obvious advantage of a duet is that you can have 2 voices instead of 1! Think about these just to name a few:
"Sing-along"
This is gotta be the most common scenario in a karaoke box. 2 singers singing the same tune, at the same time, competing to see who's voice is louder after a beer (lol)
The downside is that it sounds very obvious if 1 singer is out of tune/tempo (even slightly) and quite frankly, it's boring! Try to minimize "sing-alongs" and try to mix in other techniques.
"Rally/Tag"
This is where each person takes turn to sing a section of the song (eg Nichijou) and should be relatively easy to master. Make sure each singer is on pitch and sing with clear voice (since no one can cover for you), this should take care of the bulk of the duet.
"Effects"
This ain't the digital sound effects that you're thinking about lol
I'm referring to when 1 person sings while the other makes random "sound" to decorate the section. Just make sure that the main singer's voice is clear and on pitch so that the "effects" doesn't kill it.
"Harmony"
This usually means 1 person singing the main chord while the other sings at a few keys lower. Yes, very common technique but very awkward when one jumps in to do it, try experimenting a little!
Harmonies are "big guns" that one can use to deliver heavy punches, use it for the climax! It'll run out of steam when overused.
^ Try mixing in those techniques in your next recording and see if it sounds more dynamic than usual. If you're looking for simple examples, check out COOL&CREATE's songs. I'll leave one example here, this has all the techniques we touched upon (and it's a nice song hue) (https://osu.ppy.sh/b/40212):

Just a heads up, the document will be viewable until Stage 1 Judgings start, after that it will be disabled for public view until the judings finish.
That was something I almost asked you about because I was wondering how it would even be possible to leave the doc viewable while judging for the next stage is going.
This should help with basic alignment. It's not a super recent video but it still works the same way, you just may find the tools in a slightly different place on the screen.
I would like to apologise to My Angel Zeraph for forgetting to change the link to her new entry. Now you see why I did not want resubmission to become a thing.
I will try to get the entry judged as soon as possible. If it gathers enough points, it will qualify for stages, along with the rest of the 51 participants. Once again, my sincerest apologies!

I don't know if you're aware but I feel slightly trolled now.

I highly doubt LoliFlan had any intention of trolling you. If you have an issue about your entry still you should PM him directly.
I should sing the parody of Coward Montblanc I dod for my favorite RPG forum...... They weren't able to appreciate it, because it's in english and it's a bunch of french guys....... It's for french people, but if anybody is interested to know the inspiration for my parody, it's here: http://just-married.forum-nation.com/

I did not foresee such a thing happening, I understand how you feel. In order to be fair, your entry will be judged.
Hopefully I can get ahold of the judges in time. Gotta get this sorted once and for all.
the feels of having peeps near you that aren't liking japanese songs teases you with shits while you recording i could just probably rip their heads off so they will shut up-

It's not pop at all......... And it's a bit edited I think........

there's dual layer mixing too...
Too bad, cause it sounds awesome. At least, if he did like me, choosing another instrumental that is more "pop".
Because Yowamushi Montblanc is a rock song. But with the right remix........... I'm still messing up a lot of things, because I can't do dual layer, there are places where the lyrics are to close to the next, so it sounds weird.... Still working on it.

They have a couple pop-like songs, but I will leave it up to the user to make a wise decision on song choice.
I would say that maybe they didn't see that the wild card stage was removed but it's too late after that change for that to have gone unnoticed. The thread even says POP.
Even if he didn't follow the twitter feed or thread announcements, it says it in the thread title AND SUBMISSION FORM.
About the voice overlapping too, all rules from registration still apply and this has been answered already. I think it should be assumed that the rules are the same.
Because I follow all the rules, my cover is not soooo great...... That song is fast....... But I guess picking an easy song would not advantage me ^^ Took me 4-5 tracks and over 60 takes to finally get my final result!

I did hear your voice get left behind slightly on some places. But that didn't sound fast at all..

I had no idea it was okay for me to listen to the entries now. I thought I had to wait till judging started.
If anyone else is questioning if their song is pop, then try looking up the song first and checking pages with either the song or the album it is from to see if pop/jpop/kpop/any pop is in its genres. As long as pop is in the top 2 or 3 genres it should be okay. If it's a sub genre of a sub genre of a sub genre tho then it prolly isn't the best choice.
If you've ever looked at genre lists for songs or just genre lists in general it is insane sometimes. Like the main genre could be jpop but then it's sub genres might include something like indie alternative electro soft rock.
I really want to record something but my throat is a bit swollen from a small sinus infection so I can't get into a good tone *cries furiously*
You know what I just realized that no duets made it to this round D: (yes I'm a little slow) lamenting QQQQQQ It would be great to hear a cover of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgBz88f3Dh8
Lots of menthol rubs and pickled ginger right now. I got over the big part of the sinus infection in only 1 1/2 days but now it's all the gross stuff coming out.
If I try to do any recordings atm it's gonna blow out my vocal cords for like 2 weeks >.>
When I heard Cheerleader, I was like "Oh no, not this song again...." But you're awesome ztrot, nice performace here! I'd gladly take more of singing ztrot! Maybe during the world cup....? Who knows......
Hey, judges! I'm sorry for the echoes in my entry, but I was in such big room, i couldn't avoid it, and it was really hard to sing it since i couldn't hear everything in the correct time. Anyway, I checked genre, and wiki says "traditional pop" so I'm kinda happy <3
Due to lack of time, Sharlo has decided to quit participating. We hope to see you more next year! But don't think that will make it easier for you, the competition this year is serious!
Lia - My Soul, Your Beats! nano - Now or Never Alisa Takigawa - Season Another Infinity feat. Mayumi Morinaga - Glitter (Starving Trancer Remix) smileY inc. - Hanayuki Kalafina - Magia Kalafina - heavenly blue
Who dare to sing "Let Me Hear" and "Yotsuya-san ni Yoroshiku" for ROCK stage?? (Not changing it pitch, though)
Anyway, GOOD LUCK FOR OSU!IDOL 2015'S PARTICIPANTS~
