Dedicate a section on the webpage where players can browse top played maps per mode and per Ranked and Pending status.
Why per mode? If it's not explanatory enough, people who play mode A don't tend to play mode B that much. This will give players an option to filter through the popular beatmaps for the mode(s) they wish to play.
Why per Ranked/Pending status? Ok, this is not much of an issue if the standard mode (don't know about CtB or Taiko), but in mania you have A LOT of unranked mapers who make pretty well made maps. The only 2 ways there is possibility of catching them is through online play or sitting for hours scrolling through the beatmap listing. Sure you can search by mapper, but that doesn't guarantee all the maps are good, or there can be that mapper when 1 awesome map. There are a lot of trending maps in mania that go below the ranked radar.
