Pretty much what the title says. As mapping inevitably gets harder and harder, it will be more common to see additional difficulties that are even higher than extra, and with a large difficulty gap between them. I think this will be necessary eventually so its better to decide it sooner than later

Examples:
https://osu.ppy.sh/b/424925&m=0# https://osu.ppy.sh/s/183656 https://osu.ppy.sh/b/524417&m=0

A standard difficulty name would
a) help for maps too hard to be your usual "extra"
b) show players the difficulty jump between extra and ???
c) give mappers a guideline what they should name such difficulties

Personally I liked what this map used https://osu.ppy.sh/s/212192 "Ultra"

Of course one could still name it "0108 style" if he or she wants. Thoughts?

Sorry if I formatted this wrong, first time posting in ranking criteria! :(

The standard name for the difficulty above Insane is actually "Expert" (but there isn't any rule that enforces setting the difficulty name of the hardest difficulty as "Expert", also, "Extra" is acceptable since most people understand that it means).

Setting a standard name such as "Ultra" would have the problem that in some cases implies something lower than "Hyper" (a common alternative name for "Hard" difficulty), such as "Ultrasound" (frequency above hearing limit of human hear, ~22kHz) and "Hypersound" (frequency measured in GHz or THz).

If one could still name the hardest difficulty what they want, then what is the point? We have a provision in the ranking criteria that states that the highest diff can have a custom difficulty name without any relation to the mapper's username. Hell, the E/N/H/I's that we are used to seeing aren't even set in stone - you can name them whatever you want as long as there is a logical and clear progression in the naming. Same applies here.

Besides, there really should not be a difficulty gap anywhere in the spread, the QAT would have a few words to say about that hehe

Standardized Difficulty Name for Higher Than Extra
Now see this is where you went wrong. Extra isn't officially recognized in difficulty spread naming; it just happens to be what people use.

Personally I think the difficulty name "Extra" is retarded and has no inherent meaning regarding difficulty. Expert and Extreme make much more sense as difficulties higher than Insane, but you do have a valid point that there is no clearly defined order for those terms, along with Another, and they can pretty much be mixed around for different mapsets.

Maybe people don't bother with it because there are so few mapsets that have multiple X icon difficulties, and even rarer for the mapset creator to have done them all. All the guest difficulties can just be called "___'s Extra" using Extra for all of them.

Uhm, I don't think any mapper mappes more then 3 extra diffs on the same map
The lowest extra gets called extra, and the other get a custom name
If there is a third, I'd go for intense, extreme, expert, exhaust or smth like that
