Oh! Scarlet Weather Rhapsody? That's a fun game, yes. My main is Suika, because for some reason she's easy for me to use for some reason. :D Also, I have every official touhou game that has been released for some time now. The game that I pretty much have trouble with is Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. The bosses are very annoying to beat, and I can't get through Patchouli's stage without using all my continues. :? I think Hong Meiling is Win by the way, lol. :D

In other news, I still can't clear easy on SWR or MoF.
You'd be surprised at how many times I've failed each one of those Spell Cards and normal attacks to get to that point. Hell, for that replay that I talked about, the only reason why I got to Hourai Doll in the first place was because I was trying to do a live recording of it while doing commentary - that shunted my avg. FPS to 40 or 50. I couldn't even get the replay done because of the lack of space on my HDD, so that's why Hourai Doll absolutely slaughtered me.

Also, trying to clear Hard or Lunatic difficulty Spell Cards really helps, as the faster moving bullets help you adjust to the speed used in Extra mode. I still can't beat a lot in Extra mode, I've never been able to beat all three of EX-Keine's cards in one go, and Honest Man's Death is still a mystery to me.

And a PCB ReimuB replay. I'm a complete ➈ when it comes to Youmu, apparently.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything that lags that much, although I might try keeping over 9000 halo windows minimized and see if that helps.
Also, there's another SA demo available from ZUN's site, I'm downloading it atm.

I've unlocked a few characters in SWR, epicness has occurred. I have yet to see suika though...
I still can't beat story mode without continuing, but apparently, it saves replays when you continue, so....

Remilia and Yukari are both extremely cheap in story mode...

It's a PoFV joke. In the manual, on a picture describing the play field ZUN has Cirno overlayed with that symbol, and in the description is the Japanese word for idiot. That, combined with Icicle Fall -easy-...

EDIT: heres a score.dat file, all cards/characters unlocked? (2 bosses) pretty nice if you want to netplay against others, since you got complete characters/cards already.

If I can figure out how to set the netplay up, I'll fight.

In other news, I am really starting to loathe Last Spells now. Hell, some Last Words seem easier to me (*cough*Deflation World*cough*). Also, f you, Hourai Doll. I don't think I'll ever be able to cap that one without slowdown help. I get close, but I always miss something if attacks come from more than two directions. Which is why I can never cap Marisa's Milky Way/Asteroid Belt series on Hard or higher, even though it is probably weaker in difficulty than say, a couple of Reisen's normal attacks on Normal.

I overcorrect too much now. I bump into everything.

I advise you don't try it on PCB or EoSD, though, because their counterbomb timing is far harsher than the others. IN with Border Team is the easiest way for you to see the timing, because if everything clicks correctly, you have almost a full second to react, rather than a tenth of one.

Counterbombing is pretty much the only way I can do a 1cc with standard lives.

I just finished SWR's easy mode entirely.
I'll upload replays another time, and I did actually manage to do it without retrying once.

Edit: I think this was the one, cheapass Yukari ftw.

Personally, in Story Mode, I think the title of "cheapest" goes to either Reisen's Spell Card obliterator or Alice's piercing doll lazers. Not much can spell weird more when you can take out some of your foes' most powerful Spell Cards with a 1-cost card of your own, or you can essentially ignore any sort of danmaku-destroying defense with a long-range attack.

It's too damn easy to lose skillz in Touhou (or is that forget what the hell you have to do?).

In other news, ReimuA's hax in SA has been fixed. I wanted to see the Final boss die to that... Also, wtf with the wth difficulty in Stage 3 Lunatic? The only Lunatics I've played are IN and PoFV, but the SA one is miles above them. Onis seem to love haxxoring, I guess.

SA is pretty disappointing having played the demo another few times.
The only considerable improvement is the advanced graphics, and they still don't extend into the foreground. I just hope there's more IN and PoFV style gameplay in future games.

To put it simply, Lunatic PoFV is supreme lunacy. I miss when I think I should have been hit, and get hit when I think I missed.

Same thing goes to Supernatural Borders in PCB--how the heck do I dodge EVERY single bullet with it on and me charging through the bullets, but get hit by something right after. I don't get how I managed to get up to the shadow on Yuyuko's last Spell Card in the red maelstrom with the barrier on.

You could probably buy them from an Asian importing site - iirc they're around $25 USD apiece.

I also wish to yell out to the heavens at my inability to off Yuyuko without suffering major life loss. Damn glutton ghost. Partly it's due to my own stupidity, but more importantly, I either have to not be on the bus or I need to be able to counterbomb faster. I've gotten less nine-ball against Youmu, thankfully, and better at taking out the Prismrivers.

Argh at the replay--not only because I lost on the final card, but because of the beginning of Stage 6. No firing, no moving = me at AFK watching my brother's laptop playing an episode of Kitchen Nightmares.

Why the hell would you want an instruction manual? You move with the arrow keys, shoot with Z, bomb with X, focus with Shift and skip dialogue with Ctrl. Dodge the bullets, shoot the enemies. One shot kills you, but you'll survive if you bomb just as the bullet hits you. That's all you need to know.
Oh, and go here for story and English patches.

I'd love to have an EEE PC to play Touhou on. Too bad they're so expensive. ;_;

Torrent sites if you want to have it now, search for it on an import site if you want to actually pay. As for being like Galaga, kind of, but there are a whole lot more bullets in patterns, loli girls and faeries in place of bosses and enemies respectively, and a scoring system that relies on your ability to get as close to bullets as possible.

I really have to wonder why bright even bothered, considering that the answers to his question were clearly indicated in a couple of other places in the topic. The fact that he facepalmed himself, however...

Back on topic... I wonder why Marisa's the postergirl for Touhou. In practically every installment in the Windows series, the logo had her. Hell, even Shoot the Bullet had her, and that was just Aya (I don't even think Marisa made a show there). Also, is it just me, or did ZUN ditch the typical black witch gear for more... multicolored garb? MoF had her in (I think) a slightly reddish tint, and now SA has her in a blue tint. I guess it matches with the... what's that called... the loading bits (autumn leaves in MoF, and now snowflakes in SA)... but still...

Sakuya Izayoi (Her EoSD version... she's okay anywhere else)
Yuyuko Saigyouji (PCB version... I can only cap one card [even on Easy] after so many attempts that I can no-miss Youmu midboss without trouble)
Shikieiki Yamaxanadu (Fuck your walls of death)
Aya Shamiearu (Fuck you and your ability to give even nine-ball a killing attack - also, you disgrace Stage 4 by not having a Marisa variant)
Kanako Moriya (Fuck your second-to-last Spell Card)
That oni in SA (Fuck your persistence and your wtf cards) I'm fine with this one now.
Reimu Hakurei (Fuck your low attack power. I don't care if you have homing abilities to compensate, at least make it so that it doesn't take all but one second to kill something)

At least Hourai Elixer's a Last Spell - you don't have to clear it.

I would have put the Extra bosses in that list, but seeing as how I haven't even got to any of them (except "just as Ranned" and Hourai Doll), I can't give information without knowing how they fight compared to me. Which, admittedly, is far better than me, seeing as how they're supposed to be equivalent to Hard Mode, and I can only master Easy.

I hate PoFV Extra now. Marisa and Yuka seem to be tailor-made to annihilate Komachi's life. I shudder to think how hard it would be if I had to do it with Cirno.

The Stage 4 boss lives up to expectations, unlike Aya. My thoughts when I was facing her:
"Holy shit, this is the second coming of Marisa."
"Did she just pull an opticamo moment?!"
"How does she have Nitori's moves?!"

Also, fuck you cleaver girl who can turn into a cat. This is almost as embarrassing as running to the POC with nothing there.

EDIT: Apparently the catgirl is pushing a cat cart. Damn thing still looks like a cleaver to me...

This is with ReimuA, so go and see Stage 4 again to see the thief in action again.

1cc! woo! Damn replay bug. I somehow suicide on one of her first attacks on the replay, despite the obvious discrepancy in score and Clear.

Props to ZUN for giving the final boss a unique effect (and a second-to-last Spell Card that isn't utterly unfair/hard/etc., even on Easy).

Also, fuck you Kanako/Sanae for giving her the damn idea in the first place.

I've been playing a lot while I didn't have the internet (for like 2 weeks), but I can't be bothered to save replays each time. Once I get a good one I'll post it.
Also <3 Orin, I think I've found my next Phantasmagoria main, although apparently that's not gonna be until at least Touhou 13...
ZUN should make moar Touhou and HIRE SOME GOD DAMN ARTISTS.

To each their own. I keep screwing up when it comes to maneuvering in IaMP, so I just play SWR instead.

And I managed yet another 1cc, this time PCB Easy. I had a messy death in Alice's stage, a bunch of deaths against Youmu, and I still can't deathbomb easily. I almost beat Resurrection Butterfly, too.... Damn it.

Jeez, I should update my collections. I got 1 - 10. IamP included. I need the two new ones, it seems?

My favourite is Perfect Cherry Blossom though.

You know...I never did figure out how to netplay on SWR. I've got the gist of the gameplay...kinda. (I gotta get more cards for Youmu...)

EDIT: I KINDA figured out netplay. IP(?): 5.254.19.66 (I don't know where to find my real IP)

SA on easy = PoFV on lunatic.
I FINALLY managed to get through stage 6, with some EPIC grazing, since god saw pity and started up cubedesktop and my screensaver in the background, lowering my framerate to just over 9000.

Do you guys think ZUN is going to have a four seasons stint? I mean, we've already gone through autumn, winter, and spring in the last three games. I remember IN not occurring until December, so maybe Touhou 12 will have a summer theme? Hopefully get Reimu un-zombified?

On another note, I've seen a few replays that have Icicle Fall -Easy- moments in SA. Orin's Stage 6 card seems to have a weak spot near her.

Damn it, I was literally one second away from unlocking the last card I needed to obtain that Last Word. DAMN IT!! Kaguya gets 10 Master Sparks to the face next time I face her.

I dunno where to get that. Apparently I'm still missing two games. I'm busy trying to find the cut up Ending from Yakumo De Pon still.

To host: Click the first option in network play. Default port is 10800.
To join: You type in the person's ip address in the second option of network play. They have to be hosting before you try to join.
A program called Hamachi is good for finding players who play these games (kinda). It shows an ip address beside their name.

I think I have a problem though, I tried to netplay with AlchemistKeiko but it always times out, same thing happened with another person yesterday even though we had the same version. :cry:

Edit: Oh cool, I actually got to play with somebody today! XD

I've always found it interesting that higher difficulties basically require one to move closer to the boss, rather than farther away. It seems backwards, in a sense.

Also: Stage 6 SA:
Orin's Spell Card has a weak spot approximately ten pixels square away from her sprite, where one may stay for the entire duration without being hit. Even on Lunatic. There's also an Apollo 13 moment with Utsuho. One of her normal attacks can be dodged by going into that sphere she's holding. Granted, the extra Graze is essentially not worth it anymore due to the lack of Points to use it on, but it's still interesting.

And let's face it, her power is only useful if you can catch her. Even if you can, you'll immediately use it on escaping from the Bamboo Forest. So it's fairly useless (why the hell did you get lost in the first place!?), and pretty much relegates Tei to Lily White territory. And even that's dubious, as Mokou can do the exact same job, and she isn't a Komachi-level slacker.

Sorry, but bunny girls don't get any extra points from me.


Also, has anyone taken count of how many Touhou-based beatmaps we have on here, compared to other series?

Yeah, which is why I asked. IOSYS isn't the only doujin group that does Touhou music.
