Welcome to the BNG.
We slightly adjusted the promotion process, as we revise mods now. Every applicant or nominated person comes along with 3 mods that shall be their "most significant ones" in latest time. Internally, we are revising this mods, albeit anonymized. If the mods, unknown who did them, were of sufficient quality, they passed and get promoted.
Quality mods were defined as: explanative enough, conclusive and solution oriented, attitude seemingly fine, finding errors and expressing them appropriately, sorta broad skill field (e.g. not only focussing on hitsounds, combos and aesthetics, but also trying to revise gameplay elements) and capable English skills. We did not know what map the mods were connected to. Therefore, we were unable to determine if the mods actually turned out helpful in this specific case. This is a loss coming along with the anonymization. But we could at least assure that all promoted BNs were somewhat able to perform helpfully looking mods that are expressing their intentions sufficiently - so we want to also let them try nominate beatmaps.

some another issues what I see very often in mods:
just some my thoughts~
- Do not pop bubbles with unsnapped green lines unless they trigger kiai or not affecting notes correctly
- Do not mod useless green lines unless they're doubled at the same spot
- Do not suggest to delete single .osb file, it's unnecessary
- Do not mod widescreen support, it's completely unneeded and won't affect anything if map don't have any sb
- It's pointless to suggest disable letterbox during breaks if map doesn't have any breaks
- Decimal values for SV (e.g. SV being like 1.99999999876678) is fine
- Make sure your mod will be useful for mapper and will improve his map. Do not suggest something what mapper is going to reject for sure, try to understand mapper's mindset and focus on improving map at the most preferrable way for mapper. Wall of "blanket modding" which in 80% cases won't be even readed isn't going to be any useful either. Long mod doesn't always means that it's quality mod

Afaik mode specific icons don't mean much anymore, since giving them out is 0 risk for the BNs who do as they don't get any punishment at all for the map being dq'd for the icon they gave. Doesn't make much sense, but as far as I'm concerned it's that way atm.
