I did my skin but by playing a few songs, the spiner changed to the skin "osu new template" for no reason. What could be the problem?
PS: I wanted to know if there is any way to make the circle hit could see no color that takes on the circle hit overlay.

What happens when I use 300ppi images in osu! as opposed to 72ppi? Do I get better scaling / anti aliasing?
Oddwel
Hey there people!

A friend gave me some skin. Though I made some tweaking on the taiko elements that were displaying unproperly for some reason (took me a while to correct it. Still don't know what was wrong, but I couldn't tell you what changes could have been made to that skin before it came to me), I didn't touch the sliderball.

I can undoubtedly certify that skin.ini defines
SliderBallFlip: 1
Yet the slider ball does not flip when reversed.

To confirm: I changed the cursor rotation in the ini file and it changed in the game so my file is without doubt being read by osu.
Any ideas as to how I can troubleshoot that?

That'd be great.

PS: For info my osu version is the latest cutting edge (check out the last version in the beta changelog and it's mine)

Go to options and scroll down. Just click on "current skin" and look around to find the skin you want to use.

Replace default-0.png - default-9.png with a hitcircle combined with number 0-9 on it (default-0.png has number 0), and use blank hitcircle.png and hitcircleoverlay.png

some skins that using this:
t/222615
Narril or Xilver skin
Takeshi Kida
Alpha_00
How do you make the 4 menu buttons look as in the picture below?

Whenever I try to make a skin, the buttons are always separated.

EDIT: nvm figured it out

I will say it again, you can't use full widescreen images for spinner-metre.png.

This time I will give you the dimensions you should work with: 1024x692 for spinner-background.png AND spinner-metre.png

Is there any word if widescreen support for spinner-metre is going to happen? I tried searching but couldn't really find anything on it. Been out of loop for quite a long time.

Got its name freshly from deadbeat:

selection-mod-keycoop.png

Co-Op simply splits every key count into 2 playfields right now and also enables 10K, 12K, 14K, 16K, and 18K.
So you can maybe start skinning for this keycounts aswell.

I have tried looking in the skin.ini, and changing things around, but it doesn't do anything at all.

Open up the file named hitcircleoverlay.png and erase the pixels in any program that supports transparency. Make sure to save as a .png file when you're finished.

Make a new layer under the file you opened and fill it with black. You should be able to see the pixels after this, though check hitcircle.png and make sure there aren't any stray pixels on it too.

No, i cant see that pixels in the layers

In the skin.ini file, there should be this line:
SliderTrackOverride: 196,146,202
Simply remove it or write it like this:
//SliderTrackOverride: 196,146,202
This will remove the SliderTrackOverride color and change it to the current combo color.

I've been trying for a while now to make my own mania skin. I made my keys using Paint.net, basically drawing over a key I copied from another skin. The problem is that once I set the key and key@2x in the .ini file, it doesn't load properly. Namely, the color and design works, but the key doesn't scale to the right height. It covers the lower half of the key space, and actually shrinks to it, but the top half is black. I've been looking for some info on key height/width, but haven't found anything online. I'm stumped.

Haskorion
Don't assign HD elements in the skin.ini. Remove the "@2x" from every line. The game is coded for 1024x768 resolutions so you need to assign SD elements in the skin.ini.

I checked and I think the new scorebar offset is 12x13 (24x26 @2x).

We already had this cleared up and it's [12,12] for scorebars with marker and [5,16] for scorebars with ki.

This thread might be useful for you. Has the default skin as a template, which includes a few of those sounds.

Does anyone know the fonts used in the various elements for osu? Things like:
  1. Logo (the new one used in-game, not the site logo which has Verdana)
  2. Chat (not Tahoma)
  3. Hitmarkers (50's, 100's, Geki, etc.)
  4. Score
69653863
The font used in logo, chat, and hitmarkers should be Aller. No idea about score but I think it looks p similar to EXO2

Make sure you wrote it under the [General] section and start 'Version: 2.2' with a capital letter. Missing capitalization is a major mistake I often see on skin.ini-files.

open your skin.ini and change the value of "HitCircleOverlap: *numbers*"
i believe the value is more than 20, change it to 0 or between 1-10

This is not help. On picture HitCircleOverlap: 0 (1, 2, 3 etc. tryed it all).
OsuMe65
That method (HitCircleOverlap: *image width, height) works on dots perfectly, not on numbers
The overlap at 10 onwards is inevitable.

Only Numbers 1-9, see it in Peppys Template Skin (Numbers is not 160x160px!!)

HitcircleAboveNumbers: 1 is right. (0 is disable, 1 is enable)

Here you go. Really easy using the alternative method from Franzium--wherein you replace hitcircle.png and hitcircleoverlay.png with an invisible picture, and make hitcircleoverlay-0.png your regular hitcircle.

One caveat, however--hitcircles will no longer show the proper combo colors. This is the one unavoidable catch with having removed slider ends.

Can anyone tell me the default resolution of multi-skipped.png? And is there a limit to the amount of frames usable in elements that can be animated (e.g. play-skip, menu-back--can these have an infinite amount of frames for an animation)?

EDIT: In addition, is there a way to remove the desaturated effect that occurs when you fail a song in multiplayer? Disabling in-game shaders does disable the near-failure red overlay, but this effect is otherwise unaffected.
xDesmond
Ty for helping me but is there another method where I can use proper combo colors?

xDesmond wrote:

From what I know, probably no. You'll have to use hitcircle.png to use proper combo colors but this also kills the effect of "no slider end circles".

So, I am in the middle of making a skin, which I want to be quite minimal. I managed to make some hitbursts (the 300s to be exact) invisible but that also made them invisible on the ranking board. My question being, is it possible to make them invisible in-game without altering their rank board visibility ?

yes. it is. you can use both 300.png and 300-0.png
300.png will appear on the ranking panel and 300-0.png will appear while playing

Not 100%, but in regards to just menu-related elements (referring to Global section of Sounds in the Skinning article on the wiki), I've only ever seen the following in other skins and working:
  1. welcome.wav
  2. seeya.wav
  3. menuhit.wav
  4. menuback.wav
  5. menuclick.wav
  6. applause.wav
I believe multiplayer elements (match-join.wav, match-leave.wav, etc.) are also modifiable. Everything else I don't think can be changed--haven't tested it myself yet though. The only thing being a supporter allows you to modify that you otherwise wouldn't be able to is welcome.wav and seeya.wav (in terms of sounds).

Kei1koh2 wrote:

The file you're looking to modify is scorebar-bg.png. This contains the background of the HP bar and you can put whatever you want on it, including your name. You can also modify scorebar-colour.png to have your name as well (if you want your name to fill with color instead of being static in the background for example).

Free tools to modify / create mage files include Paint.NET and GIMP. A more professional alternative is Photoshop, provided you obtain a copy in some way.

The "@2x" corresponds to a High-Definition element, being two times bigger than the Standard-Definition element (but still will appear on the same size of a SD element ingame, the difference the HD one is more clear). For example, the file you requested for the key/mouse button pressed is inputoverlay-key.png. The template skin's element has a resolution of 43x46 for the SD element, and a resolution of 86x92 for the HD element (aka the @2x element). Also, the background of the inputs is called inputoverlay-background.png. If you want to force HD elements, serach for this line in your config file (osu!.Your Computer Username.cfg):
HighResolution = 1
1 being to force them and 2 to not force them. Personally, when making a skin, I make the @2x element first, as it will be easier to scale it down to SD afterwards. The reverse isn't recommended.
Hope that answers!

Another thing, why is the RGB code of Mania colors 4? Isn't it supposed to be only 3? (This is from my skin.ini)

ColourLight3: 0,191,255,255

Colour1: 0,0,0,240
Colour2: 0,0,0,240
Colour3: 0,0,0,240
Colour4: 0,0,0,240
ColourHold: 255,230,0,255

And can someone explain to me what is the difference of ColourLight, Colour, and ColourHold? Thank you very much and have a nice day :D
OsuMe65
It's based from Key Count. If it's 4K, then 4 codes.
ColourLight recolors mania-stage-light.png, Colour recolors the mania stage background and ColourHold recolors the combo number during a Long Note hold.

No, I mean not the keynotes, what I'm referring to is the RGB code, it's supposed to be 3 right? It should be something like 255,255,255 like the one on osu standard, but here on mania config, it's 102,205,170,255, like the ColourLight1

Kinda curious...

What's the default dimension of cursors for the latest version? I saw that there's a lot using 60x60, but there's also some using 50x50, 40x40, etc.
Also some of them affect my aim (or it's just me. But in my case, lower dimension = heavier to move cursors around).

MLGnom
I don't think it really matters what dimension you will use to make cursor since you can adjust size in osu! options.
