You use Tab to toggle the scoreboard. It doesn't work when the map is loading.
To hide the scoreboard the map has to start first which is not ideal for players to press the Tab key after that time frame. This is a problem when playing multiplayer in teams with many people. The scoreboard will protrude out from both sides and make the sides of the map unreadable.
Make it something like the "Hide Interface" feature where it remembers your setting. The scoreboard is not a priority when you are playing and if it is off you can always Tab it back on...just not the other way round when you are trying to play and the scoreboard just sits there and you can't do anything about it.
