I've been thinking about whether such a thread should be set up but I'm going in with a risk.

Just making it clear first: I'm shamelessly biased towards Manchester United when it comes to English football. I don't include "European" because it usually is a random, lucky thing.

First post discussion: Manchester United will win a faltering Chelsea and beat them to the title for that historic 4-in-a-row. Discuss.
GladiOol
They won't, I think~
Chelsea is always #1 for me ^__^

Football (Using your foot to control a ball)

American football is actually "Handegg" (Using your hands to control an egg)

It's known by both names, who cares?

Anyways, I personally don't really like watching soccer; I'm more of a player.
If I had to pick a good team, I'd definitely go with A.C. Milan, uninformed as I am with soccer.

Ya, EPL standing is unusually unstable. Big 4's are doing pretty bad compare to last season. So.... it is kinda hard to predict in this point. Drogba and Essien (and Kalou but whatever) won't be running for January and Man United's defense is in a risky position. Arsnal only has 1 striker currently D:
I would wait until the tranfer is all over for now

Please read the spoilerbox if you have posted anything not remotely related to soccer/association football in this thread.

SPOILER
This is my ONE and ONLY warning to the following users for shit-posting in a General Discussion thread; please bring your shit to Forum Games and Random if you must, but, this thread started by me notwithstanding, I am of the opinion that those really talking about soccer shouldn't be suffering your shit. Keep this discussion strictly to just soccer matters, not your own biased opinions about things not related to soccer.

This warning applies also to all would-be offenders.

*ahem*

Non, non, non, Manchester United are in prime position. Like, can Chelsea bite without their African d00ds? NAH. I bet you over the next few weeks of the transfer market, they're going to lose at least one or two.

The only thing then is Manchester United actually winning a few =S

Do they even call it soccer where you live?

Come on Pasonia, that is called a thread. You cannot box the subject in and restrict anyone from talking about other things than soccer just because the topic started on that point. People talk and the discussion goes on. Move with it or only read the posts you like or something. Whatever floats your boat I guess. There isn't really anything wrong with any of that.
Oh and your cute little spoilerbox is exactly why your soccer discussion will be gone like the wind in 1 day. Just an FYI.
Neo@lex
My post was entirely related.
This one however is not.

When it comes to football, I just go along with the home-team, Just because.

Most of the rest of my Family are Man Utd/Liverpool fans. :<

In Singapore there is no real home team, as all the clubs are barely past AFC Champs level (which is about the same as perhaps League Two? iunno) so like every other Singaporean male (not all) I just go for an English Club since the age of... five? lol

I've been with the club pre-Cantona, post-Cantona-Beckham, post-Beckham... up till now. =3 Only recently did I seriously think of stocking Man U stuffs around my room I guess, partially also because I'm playing Subbuteo.

Wojjan, your threats mean nothing much. I think it's common sense not to go off topic on an ongoing discussion. You want another topic? Open another thread thanks.

Also, there's a lot to talk about soccer so there's never anything we're running short of.

Also, Liverpool lost to Reading, and apparently they're going to sell the naming rights to the new stadium. Seriously? The name "Anfield" shouldn't ever be sold. It's a name eternally stuck to Liverpool really. It's sad for me if the same happens to Manchester United and Old Trafford, I guess.

I know Man U and Liverpool are rivals, but I seriously feel sorry for the other Red given the seriously shitty patch now.

  • I don't include "European" because it usually is a random, lucky thing.
I am unsure what to make of this. Are you suggesting European players, in contrast to British players, are unorganized and rely on luck ?

Manchester United will win a faltering Chelsea and beat them to the title for that historic 4-in-a-row.
While I am not interested in sports. I would assume that such a defeat would be humiliating enough to spur the opposing team to win by all means necessary. Including of course, performance enhancers and/or bribery.

I've been thinking about whether such a thread should be set up but I'm going in with a risk.
You shouldn't need to think long and hard about these things. Obviously a thread about sports will burn and die.
On a side note, my comment on the naming of this sport is totally related.
It's football, not soccer. No matter how much you dislike it.

I say European because games on the Champs League scale are very predictable.

Picture it as a yearly, European Clubs version of the World Cup. Every year, there are teams that by now are the so-called "Marquee" clubs of the UEFA, i.e. "if it ain't there that year's Champs League will suck a little", for example, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and traditionally speaking, Liverpool, and then Real Madrid and Barcelona and Inter Milan.

Then you have the second-string Champions, i.e. so-called "National league champions" that are actually more like, in comparison, League One or Championship sides if taken to England.

Then you have the third-rate Champions, which sometimes seem more like extra-seating slots to me given the varying quality of these clubs and the fact that most of the time these clubs are filtered into the now-Europa League by the time they enter the Table of Sixteen.

The random-lucky is a reference to the luck of the draw, and the difficulty of the competition from the second stage onwards. That's why, even as I support Man U, I would actually watch other clubs fight it out more than I do for Man U.

Also, all I say usually references Wikipedia. The long phrase "Association football" is there to distinguish it from other sports. You can invent god knows what name for another sport and it might end up being another form of football. *shrug*

Soccer is an American invention iirc. But I think both are just fine, that's why I call it by both names. *shrug shrug*
GladiOol
Yes, very predictible while you name up a list of ALOT of clubs who could become #1. It's funny ^^
But there's no other competition in the world with better footbal than in Europe. You can argue what you want, but in the end, I think, everybody would rather watch European footbal than Asian or South-American footbal (Club speaking only!)
For nationals everybody is for their own homeland most of the time.

*Looks at Pasonia's title.*
*Looks at Wojjan's title.*

Either way, there's enough Europeans to keep this discussion going, and football is a great sport.
Too bad American soccer is a joke, if it weren't, then I'd know more about soccer.
Mogsy
Fuck your big four, EPL. Wigan FTW. I am a fan of their mediocrity because it can create less boredom. One week they can do phenomenally and then another they can get trashed. It's certainly exciting to watch in a variety of ways.

I'll only watch the EPL when Wigan is on

Aww man, Sunderland methinks has one of the worst defensive records... =S

Gladi wrote:

It IS predictable. Because the trophies are cycled among these clubs. Man U Liverpool Barca... those who have a shot at it. Like I said, in this competition there hasn't really been dark horses coming up like how it happens in the King's Cup and FA Cup.

Not like Liverpool, Juventus, and AT Madrid dropped out :|

When you've got ALOT of clubs who can take the winning chance, then it's damn fun to watch. You've got no idea who can win or lose so it's always fun to watch. This is why I find it not predictible but very fun ;)

Example: Chelsea vs Inter Milan. It's a match between two clubs with 1st standing in their league. This match is going to be interesting

You know, Chelsea will find themselves short on this one... and Manchester United will go "Inter Milan who?"
