I've also pointed out my reasoning along with the rankings, but of course, my opinions + ranking may be inaccurate / weird, as I'm pretty inactive, I don't have much insight of the players, and I suck at this game. Another thing to point out, I'm going to refer to the players as males for now. With that said, here's my top 10 players of 2014. (Prepare yourself for the longest post of this topic.)
hopefully1.
rrtyui - This was a tough one: rrtyui vs SW. But for this year, I'll acknowledge rrtyui as our #1 player. Nowadays, it seems that he doesn't seem to play as often, but he's shown us that he can still play preeminently, showing his godly consistency around the world, by carrying Japan single-handedly to win the OWC 2014, having a one-of-a-kind reading and aim, playing DoubleTiming
Maffalda with only one slider break (not shown because he replaced it with his NoMod SS...) and a ton of other incredible full-combos (
Big Black,
Elemental Creation,
Freedom Dive, and
Miss You.)
2.
hvick225 - The current #1 player according to the pp system. The only player to also claim two 500pp songs. His ability to DoubleTime a variety of difficult beatmaps that I could only NoMod today on is incredible. He's played for 6 years, and continues to play to this day and I'm grateful that he has continued to show greatness still.
3.
WubWoofWolf - Like hvick225, he's been playing osu! for 6 years. Poland. Like rrtyui, he contains the same level of consistency. What makes him at #3, is his top-tier reading skills, and ability to play most songs with great accuracy and consistency, notably songs like
SABER WING with DT, and
Demetori - Kanjou no Matenrou ~ World's End with HDHR this year.
4.
sayonara-bye - He has pretty good aim and outstanding streaming skills. He has also contested and claimed #1 at one point in the pp system battling SnowWhite for that spot. This year, he stood as one of two players to FC
Yousei Teikoku - Wahrheit on DT along with rrtyui. He's also a pretty lovable guy, if you ask me.
5.
HDHR - Welp, this dude's on the rise right now, grinding pp with HDHR. This year, I'll just put him right here, at #5, as he may be starting to make a run to becoming one of the best players of osu! standard if he isn't already one right now.
6.
Dungeon - I've had nothing but respect to Dungeon. He's seems to be an all-around player as I can't seem to define him as a player while he was here. His top play was
Touyama Nao & Yamazaki Haruka - Ringo Ribbon with HDDT with only one miss.
7.
Rafis - Where did he come from? Wherever this dude came from, he was pretty quick to climb the ladder quickly and I've respected him, with his top-notch speed and pretty good accuracy, specifically playing HDDT a ton.
8.
thelewa - Right now, pretty inactive and harsh for the current #1 player of Finland according to the pp system. Despite this, he still has top-level accuracy and stamina over most, proven with incredible plays with HDHR, looking at his top performances.
9.
cptnXn - His streaming skill is one of the best. Most known from his
Freedom Dive play and taking rrtyui's spot at #1 on that beatmap earns my recognition and with that play, joins a small amount of people that contain a performance equal or more than 500pp. With that speed, his top-scores consist of mostly DT.
10.
NerO - Mostly known for outstanding aim and playing mostly Hidden. This year, he's shown a lot of promise, notably, playing
Senketsu no Chikai on HDHR to take #1 away from rrtyui, and
Reizouko Mitara Pudding ga Nai on HDHR, both containing difficult jumps and movement in general.
