I couldn't find a thread about what recording programs to use on osu soooooooooooooo...!
(correct me if I'm wrong >.>)

Note that this is from a quick overview and test of these programs and may not be dependable

I would suggest you to use Camtasia , It works fine with osu! I had 120 fps on osu! while recording 120fps as well.
I don't know if your using a high-end computer but the product of mine after it records is a bit choppy, while the actual gameplay is more or less normal.

WeGame is also pretty good. It causes less lag than fraps.
I would highly recommend this more since I just tested both WeGame and Camtasia and overall WeGame produces steady frames, and barely if any choppy frames and barely affects gameplay, while Camtasia also barely affects gameplay, does produce some choppy frames in the end product on a semi low-end pc like mine

My System Specs wrote:

Manufacturer: HP-Pavilion

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ (2 CPUs), ~2.5GHz

Memory: 2942MB RAM

Hard Drive: 400 GB Total

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Monitor:Generic PnP Monitor

Sound Card: Speakers (Creative SB Audigy 2 (WDM))

Operating System:
Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612)

DO NOTE THAT THE VIDEO HAS BEEN RENDERED TO A SMALLER SIZE AND QUALITY MAY DECREASE

though it sure as hell didn't change my point

depending on when you are watching this, it may still be rendering on youtube, though it'll be done soon

NOTE THAT THE SCREEN RESOLUTION FOR THIS IS AT 640 x 480

also if you want fraps quality

http://www.youtube.com/user/Xanek?feature=mhw4#g/u

All which have been recorded with fraps, except the "WeGame vs Camtasia" one >.>

P.S. also from the quick test w/ Camtasia, if you use the select option on the user interface when recording screen, it records the whole window, which is what you see on the Camtasia recording

There's at least two: one that's been around for ages, and someone posted one in Feature Requests last week.

Too lazy to dig them up.

did a search on recording and saw a few that were sadly "denied" on the request

Get a video camera.

Hold it in one hand and play with the other.

Make sure to shake as much as you can.

Success.

You can try many other ones:

HyperCam 2
Screen Recorder Gold
Growler GunCam

There are many more out there, but these one's also pop up. I am not running a high-end computer, heck, I'm running a cardboard box... But I highly suggest Growler GunCam, with quality settings to maximum (Purchase it or search the internet for an illegal crack) and it runs beautifully. I record at 45 with that on, and here's an example of how crap my PC is:

Frame spikes happen ever 5-10 minutes, and it takes my PC about 10 minutes to start up. I am also only running 512mb of ram, which is even worse when it's two 256mb sticks, on a post-legacy DDR1 main board.

First off, it is NEVER recommanded to record live.
I don't even see why anyone would do that in any game where you can save a replay, because
1. you WILL get lower fps no matter what
2. you have to re-record everytime you mess up

So now, the question of lagging and stuff isn't important anymore since you're just recording off a replay.

For programs, I posted somewhere else;
XFire is the easiest to use, but it's an entire messenger and way to bloated if you only want that
Fraps is the most known program and it works great, but it's not free
Taksi is a opensource version of Fraps, never tried it myself but shouldn't be that hard to figure out

All the other recorders like camtasia and stuff aren't recommanded because they don't hook into the opengl/DirectX stream, they just plain record your screen, and it's pretty bleh to set up and stuff.

Now the actual part that needs more discussion which I rarely see is the video encoding used.
Something that isn't too big so you don't have to upload for hours to youtube, but still makes use of the max quality on youtube.

I should set up a service for replay recording...

WeGame is pretty effective, except it gave me a 283MB video. Too high quality? Anyway, seeing what will happen after compressing with SUPER.

Any live recording program will do that. It actually should be around 1gb per minute.
And no, it's not really because it's high quality (although yes, it's lossless I guess).
It's mainly because it's not encoded, it's just raw video. The reason it does that is because it's recording live and it doesn't have time to encode it, it just dumps the buffer in a file. You then have to compress it before uploading, which is what I was talking about in my previous post. XFire though does that and uploads it for you, which makes it simpler. I would of though that WeGame does it too, but I guess not.

why are we even debating this?

xfire has ALWAYS been the top choice for getting video from games for which it is supported

No.

1. It's a messenger, not a screenrecording program, so it's bloating with shitload of other stuff you don't need, and you also need an account to use it

2. It only converts files in it's own format and quality, which has some fucked up codec.

3. You can't edit the video (cut, add music, etc) unless you have your own program, and if you do, why the fuck would you use xfire for.

It might be the easiest way of going, but it surely isn't the best, since it doesn't give the user any choice at all. It's very limited in what it can do.

Sadly, kkapture doesn't work with osu!.

I bet it's the .NET cancer.

Osu! uses a more reliable timing mechanism internally so hooking timing functions like getTickCount wouldn't work.

And now for my 2 cents.

SPOILER
FRAPS OR GTFO

It leaves the uncompressed video in the /videos/ folder if you don't upload it to the xfire servers meaning you can do whatever the fuck you like with it afterwards, that and the way xfire records shit means you practically lose very little FPS in the process meaning people with shithouse machines can record 60fps videos without having fraps rape it down to 30 or something

just found out that WeGame had a half a second audio lag on a recording :[

I use Fraps.

Now I need a good encoder :/

EDIT: Tried SUPER, but it felt a little low quality and I got a 60MB video out of it.

I personally think XFire lags a bit more than FRAPS does (and it's really annoying when you alt-tab out).

Also, is 50% of your framerate "very little FPS"? Because I don't think so.

EDIT: Just tested... apparently, FRAPS is faster for 3D or more graphics intensive games (games I played weren't really graphics intensive at all but they are more so than osu!), and XFire is better for things like osu!.
