Just need to rant for a second in the spoilerbox, because something I've noticed irritates me.SPOILERA lot of people I've run into basically say that people with majors in the fine and performing arts department (for those who are uneducated, it's art, theatre, and music) do absolutely no work and have no futures. While I'll say that we do barely anything that has strict black-and-white answers, we actually have hectic schedules. Replace usual examinations with performances, artwork, pieces, etc. that all have to be done within a strict timeframe. Not to mention the fact that we have to take core classes like everyone else and can't get to our homework until our mandatory rehearsals end around 9 PM every night. Aaagh.
Bitching over. Carry on.

Wait until college. Take the 'little time' you have in high school and amplify that by fifty, and that's what a fine/performing arts member experiences on a day to day basis. I personally have it easy compared to other FPA majors, considering I held off on auditioning for the Shakespeare Club's show this semester and thus only have a few rehearsals a week for other ensembles, including ones I had to put together, myself (at the same time, though, I'm taking junior/senior level classes as a second semester freshman). Other people I know, such as my boyfriend (a theatre/arts management major), are taking 23 credits, have to help out with the directing class almost every week, have lead roles in several productions, and still have to finish some core requirements.CDFA wrote:

Even though I'm just in high school, I am already busy with Wind Ensemble and Jazz II, and I'll be even busier when I make to jazz I, and probably oh god busy once marching season starts again. Also I want to do drama. To add to all of that, I'm taking honors english and bio, and plan on taking all honors minus Algebra II next year (I'm already ahead of most people, as sophmores should be in geometry, which I'm in right now as a freshman.)
At least I'm not in a professional drum corp like some high schoolers in my school are.
Oy, we arts majors would like to have words with you about this. People in these fields have a passion for what they do and wish to spend the rest of their lives doing it. We're setting ourselves up for a career, not a job (the difference being you actually enjoy your career). I personally can't stand the lab/office environment, and work best when expressing myself. People out there pay for the work that comes about when I express myself. Even if the pay isn't the best thing ever, I'm doing something I love, and that's truly what matters. I'd rather be lower middle class and happy than upper class and wishing my life would end because I hate my job.yeahyeahyeahhh wrote:
