Losing PP

So earlier I played a hard song from a while ago just to beat it for old times sake, I beat it and I gained 1 pp. Then I went and I played one of my top ranks A on an insane and I missed the last 3 notes which dropped me to a B, but I beat my old score. It registered before I could retry or realize what had happened. THen I looked at my pp again and saw that it had fallen by 1. I have never seen that happen and I heard that you can't lose pp. I know pp is calculated by accuracy and score, but do you really lose pp for messing up your earlier ranks?? Also is there a way to remove the score :( . I know their probably isnt though. But yeah, im kinda interested in knowing if you can lose pp since then i will be more careful

when you get a rank, it moves all ranks below it down a bit, (how much the pp is weighted) and if this loss is more than the pp you gained, you lose pp.

First of all, please read this.

Now, to answer your question, as you can see here in the wiki, your pp value is basically calculated with 3 main criterias : Aim / Speed / Accuracy. The fact you dropped from A to B probably means you slaughtered you accuracy a little bit. (and btw MoF, I'm not sure if I understood your post correctly, but if you're saying you can lose pp from making better plays, it's pretty wrong. It moves all the ranks below it down a bit, therefore it can't be a lower amount that the one you already have...)

Now if you really are too lazy to read all of this wiki page, which I can understand, if you really have to read ONE THING from this page, it would be this :
Your performance rank is predominantly based on your performance on individual maps. The easiest way to improve it is to improve your scores on difficult songs. Do note that game modes are counted separately [which means, playing (osu!/Taiko/CtB/osu!mania) raises (osu!/Taiko/CtB/osu!mania) pp].

Play efficiently and master your play style.
Work on getting some really good scores, not thousands of "okay" scores.
Get higher accuracy (even 1% difference can help light-years!).
Get higher combo. Go for Full Combo/Perfect or "SS/SSH".
Play well on harder difficulties.

You did worse on a map you already played, but got more score.

I experienced this lots of times when retrying beatmaps.

I hate the new PPV2 .

Even if it's more accurate, still >~>

It's so booty .

you lose PP because you are terrible at this game.

Play this on the easy difficulty with HR and HD and I'm sure you'll get PP.
If you don't want to use mods then play this on the Nothing difficulty instead.
