When did you start playing Extra maps?

I know there have been been a trillion threads about "when should I or when did you start playing insanes" made before. But these threads mostly concentrate on <4.4 star maps and surviving them. This time I'm asking you when did you start playing all the "Supreme", "Extra", "Another", "Skystar (lul)" maps that are >5.00 stars ? Having the very abstract "5.00+ star" in mind I mean that maps like Scarlet Rose and the sort that have a very "expressive and complicated" mapping styles are not to be counted because I consider them on an entirely different level on account of their "non-practicality". As I have read Insane threads the average was between 3000 to 10000 plays so I am guessing that these maps will be at least 8000 to 20000 or so.

EDIT: I personally want to be able to clear most maps that are <5.50 stars when I have about 9K plays.

Just play more and you'll start to be able to pass them. I can play extras myself atm. I've even passed airman once, but it doesn't really matter because all my plays on extra are terrible. You really need FCs to gain in PP, if thats what your aiming for. I would just focus on playing maps at the high end of your skill range. Maps you could FC, but are very hard for it to happen. Thats what I do anyways. Facepalming into extras wont teach you anything, and don't try to rush too far ahead either. I basically skipped hards and because of it I can't read AR 8. Now I'd rather play ar 10 then ar 8, and my reading is bad because of it. Just play maps that are difficult to FC or near FC/ Are hard to get good accuracy on in order to improve.

EDIT: After looking through your plays I take what I said back. You need to focus more on FCing and Accuracy. Going for high difficulty plays that are hard for you to get good accuracy will screw you in the long run. I have 92% average acc. because of what your doing.

My accuracy has been getting better recently, on maps that I only get a miss or two I usually have something over 95%. Since I rarely play the same maps in my skill range a lot and I don't bother replaying the ones in my top list that is why my avg accuracy sucks so much. Although I do play the maps you say that I shouldn't I don't play them exclusively, I play a lot of stuff and I do go into AR8 maps from time to time and I don't have such a bad time with them. I'm too lazy to try to FC even the stuff that I know I could if I played it more than twice. But I have been trying to get my accuracy up since I am very interested in improving that. I usually move away from stuff that I see I start to go near FC'ing. Getting PP isn't really the point atm for me. I am more interested in becoming good enough to play most stuff and then I will worry about how to boost my ranking. In a nutshell I am trying to become good in general and now to perfect what I can play now. Once I reach a certain skill level I will start worrying about getting those 8-5% extra accuracy points or fixing those 1 or 2 misses I got.

I stopped doing only that at 3K though. I since i saw I could actually play fairly hard stuff for me at the time.

EDIT: I started doing CS7 edits recently to help me get my aim better.

CS7 seems really pointless just take aim maps like gold dust and lower them by 1 CS, for example in this case CS5.

this + DT is pretty good too

Not sure if troll or SRS. Actually it depends on how much you play. 2 Years is enough to practically do anything if you put yourself up to it.

CS7 forces more precision, more speed and more hand movement. It kind of forces you to snap even circles at most points because the spacing becomes BS. CS7 on some maps is like playing Airman.
Vuelo Eluko
thing is if you play CS7 on maps with any real aim speed requirement you're pretty much not going to hit anything so its a waste of time [im guessing anyway, maybe you're twice as good at aim as me already]

its better practice to take maps that require fast aim and increase the precision required by a small but noticeable margin than go cs7 and either hit nothing or play on slow maps that wont increase your aim anyway even if you have to be precise.

this is just imo anyway, I'd think if I made a fast jumpy map cs7 and started whacking away at it all i'd really do is get various amounts of lucky hits as i played it and have no real sign of improvement, whereas if i make shotgun senorita cs5 and start grinding away, i notice when i start hitting consecutive patterns more often, especially near the end, and its clear improvement because comboing.

Hitting CS7 isn't as hard as you might think actually. Although HR CS7 is CS9.1 which is what you described as not going to hit anything.
Vuelo Eluko
again it really depends on the map. if you're hitting all the jumps at cs7 the jumps are probably too slow to be good practice anyway.

or im wrong and you can aim as fast as your reading allows while at cs7 and still combo patterns efficiently. i wish i was like that, because if i could do this map at CS7 i think I'd be at around Clementine tier.

It seems to me that if your plays are as good as you say they are, in comparison to your top plays, tou should be replacing your top plays with new, better ones. In any rate, Play more xD

How do you make a map CS8-10?
GoldenWolf

ZenithPhantasm
I started at rank 40k I think.

I don't want to start a new thread for this but: Do you actually look at every note you are supposed to hit? When lots of big jump start happening do you have to look at every jump individually or do you just aim using your peripheral vision?

Stare those notes down. Eventually you'll start mixing peripheral vision in naturally, but looking at every single note really helped me with jumps. Make sure you're looking at the next note though, not the one you've just hit. You should be reading ahead.

I've always used my peripheral vision, guess I will try looking at each note individually.

Most 'extra' difficulties are actually not that hard IMO, usually they just have a few more streams or CS5. Though there are a lot of 'insanes' that are actually difficult extras that I still can't pass.
nrl
I assume he means 5.25+ star maps.
B1rd
I didn't imply he didn't.

I can clear some maps that are over my skill like most people, but I prefer playing maps that I can maintain some degree of consistency on, usually under 5.25 or some extra jump maps.
ilikepudge
I think my around 9k-10k you should be able to barely clear decently long >5.00 stars like:

https://osu.ppy.sh/b/290799&m=0 (both insanes)
https://osu.ppy.sh/b/249435&m=0 (guardup)
https://osu.ppy.sh/s/53923

At around 14-15k(my playcount) you can probably play:

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/44527
https://osu.ppy.sh/b/137296&m=0 (saten, but you can try nyaten)
https://osu.ppy.sh/s/60096 (0108, although i beat this at 9k playcount i still think this is hard)
https://osu.ppy.sh/s/53857 (this might be hard on first few tries)
https://osu.ppy.sh/s/79498 (you can probably spam through it lol)

Anyways just a few maps that i found fun, and also challenging
I Give Up
Just now lol.

Dungeon never fails to impress with these niche skillsets lol.

I've been able to pass some 5.0+ songs for a while now. These days I mostly just play HR or DT for enjoyment and a good portion of those maps are 5.0+ (the HR ones mostly).

I did hit the 6.0star milestone this week passing Dispel with HR on though (idk if that counts, its a pretty easy 6.0 all things considered).
Insyni
21k+ (aka I can't survive them at 21k plays)

As far as I'm concerned, they seem impossible.

Talking about nomod maps I think
Synpoo
i think i passed remote control and hoshizora's 5 stars around 5.5k playcount
cheezstik
Dark PHOENiX - Taketori Hishou
^ My first "extra" I passed at around 40k I think, I can check my local score date when I get home. Probably the easiest extra out there.

Eagle - S!ck
^I passed the extra and extreme at 14k. (Copyright issues, have to use bloodcat to download map)

Meg & Dia - Monster (DotEXE Remix)
^I passed both extras at 14k, the sliders are really fun. Crazy hp drain rate. Map feels very 2014.
