So would anyone actually be willing to take part in this? We can have more than one genre fused in the mix. We gather some people and we decide on the flow of the song and then we each map our own sections later on for a marathon beatmap (maybe around 4 to 5 stars so that it's not extremely difficult).
We don't have to all work in the same environment though it would make things easier. I personally use FL Studio 9. We can also possibly limit ourselves (in terms of the sound fonts and instrumentation we use) so that the music can flow nicely. I think it would be a little tacky to have a break after each section (and any transitions like fading out should also be avoided) so it's important that the music is continuous. Also, it should go without saying that all music has to be completely original and specifically made for this project.
We can first decide on the genres, instruments used, and how the project will be managed (for example, what programs will be used and the arrangement of musical sections). Then we can decide on the BPM, the length of the song and all its parts, and so forth. Everyone should contribute the same amount of music, so we should design it in such a way that everyone can participate equally (including stuff like breaks).
We don't have to go for a ranked map, although that would be a nice thing. I'm not sure that everyone would be that committed, though. Even if not, if we have enough people to work on editing the map to make it meet standards, it is possible that we can eventually go for a ranked/approved map, although it's not something to think about until later.
I'm sure something like this has probably been done in the past but I haven't heard of anything recently. What do you guys think?
