I closed down my browser and every program. The osu i have is the most updated version as well
Kurogamii
why not use Mavericks instead of Snow Leopard?
with that specs, osu! should've running perfectly in your mac
have you re-install osu!?
gotmilkyyyy
i dunno, im scared there will be problems if i switch to maverick. Quite content with snow leopard at the mo and im unsure about the transition. And yeah i thought it would run smooth. Even counter strike at high settings i average 100fps . dunno why i have problems with osu hahahaha
mockingod
You shouldn't have any system problems when switching over to Mavericks. I've encountered no bugs since I've switched. It might help with the lag and stuttering you are getting.
Scakk
I'm using a keyboard for my macros, also need synapse to make the buttons work.
And I have a logitech mouse (G400s)
gotmilkyyyy
btw ive read a lot of bad reviews for mavericks. quite unsure if i should even upgrade

HI, im having some lag issues with osu. When im on the start up screen or get into a song, i get aroun 120 fps. However when the slide things load up, my game stutters and fps drops making it very difficult to play. Is there a fix for this? Ive tried turning off all the details and going into cfg to change it to a lower resolution. I dont have any background things running which can affect performance.

here are my specs, i am running 10.6.8 snowleopard, amd radeon 6750m graphics card. Using WS9Wine 1.7.16

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 8 MB
Memory: 8 GB
Try disabling Snaking Sliders, Storyboards and Shader Effects.
gotmilkyyyy
ive disabled everything, still happens

I've been playing osu on my windows computer, and I just recently switched over to mac, and downloaded the beta, but I can't play online!! :( It says I can't connect because osu needs to update, but there's no updater to update osu like on the window version! What am I doing wrong, can I just not play online anymore?
mockingod
When you open osu!, you should see the "update osu" button on the bottom. If you don't see it, I think if you go to options and look for "updates" you might find an update button.
Elzapatoverde
Yep, at the end of options menu there's a "launch osu! updater" button.
Lemozade
Thanks guys! I was scared I couldn't play my beloved game again! :o

Is there more input lag or FPS lag when playing the OS X version versus playing on Windows? Also, would a Macbook Air be able to run the OS X version well?
mockingod
No lag here. Air should be okay.
Kurogamii
depend on your MacBook Air model identifier (you can see it by click apple menu>about this mac>more info>system report)
mine sometimes lag, fps can reach 200+ in unlimited setting
NekomimiD
I'm trying to get used to playing this game on OS X and I'm having terrible offset issues. It seems like it needs to be set somewhere around -150 or so! Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

Edit: It seems I also have to have hitsounds off as well. They don't sync up at all.
Vertify
@NekomimiD

What I suggest you do if use the default hitsounds for now and work out the correct offset first. Then after you've corrected that you will then be able to determine whether it's your hitsounds that are off (some are and consequently maps will be unranked if such hitsounds are on) or your offset.

In regards to Mavericks - I'm completely fine and I play AR10.8 lol. Occasional lag but that's normal (I think lol - in any case, it's not too bad).
Kurogamii
why don't y'all just use bootcamp to install windows?
well i not install windows 'cuz storage issue

id just like to say this game is really fun and i run it on mac but because of this game my computer has crashed several times and it also has made me bring it into apple because it destroyed my logic board ik it is in beta but is there any way you guys could try and fix this.
I still would like to continue to play and enjoy this game but until it is fixed i will not touch the game.
Please get the mac beta version fixed as soon as you guys can thanks.

osu! is software and cannot destroy hardware.
mockingod
I've been playing Osu! on my mac for over 7 months. I know friends with macs that have ran osu on it with no problem. What mac do you have, and what are the specs of your computer?

never happened something like that

every time i try to play a beatmap, it lags every couple of seconds. and i mean to the point where i miss half the song and fail. id there anything i can do to fix it?
LovelyCrusade
Whenever I play osu on my macbook pro the audio seems to be slightly off, which messes up my timing on beatmaps (the music and hitsounds are off, I took off the hitsounds but then I noticed the music was slightly off as well. I know the maps arent the problem because I've played them on my windows computer and theyre fine). Is there any way to fix this or am I stuck like this haha :?

Only if osu worked with synapse still on ;_;

Works good on Osu!, but breaks sometimes when switching programs.

Personally I've been using these few terminal commands for the past year. http://osxdaily.com/2010/06/02/kill-os-x-mouse-acceleration-from-the-command-line/

The only downside is that you need to do the command "./killmouseaccel mouse"(or trackpad) in terminal every time you restart the computer. It works very well, though. I've played with my trackpad without mouseaccel and could get pretty decent accuracy on some jumps.
Vertify
Can confirm mockingod's link works =)
I also use it.
FabulousCupcake
Not sure if it's only me, but the cursor is moving very slowly after the acceleration is turned off ( through some terminal commands )
I'm going to try that smoothmouse to see if it's different.

It's more or so the same, but it's possible to increase or decrease the speed/sensitivity with smoothmouse.
Kurogamii
playing osu! is not recomended using magic mouse, seriously, it's hard to control

also i play on my late 2013 iMac (2.7 GHz) but sometimes got laggy and maximum framerate is about 400fps, but when i play on my friend's MacBook Pro (model no. md103), it better than play on iMac, why??

I was using this earlier before i found smoothmouse. Do you have to rerun this script every time when you shutdown, restart or re-login?
Unfortunately, you do. Though, I have done it for so long that it's basically in my mind to open Terminal immediately after startup. If I haven't used any other commands, I just press up then enter to execute it.

Hey I have this problem which I really need help with ASAP. I just bought this new iMac 27-inch Late 2013, and the first thing I installed was osu! (Obviously) but I can only play for a few minutes, and then it crashes saying something like my Video memory ran out. My video card is 4Gb so how can this be ? It's the only app opened too so I have no clue what the issue is.

Uh, the latest update seems to have broken the beta, at least on my computer. I'm using a 13" Macbook Pro with Retina, 8GB RAM, running 10.9.3, and when I launch osu!, all I get is a black screen. The music still plays and when I click in the center I can hear my clicks register, but if I click enough times the whole thing just crashes.

I found a way to fix this. Right click OSU and click to check it's package. If you press songs it says something about the files is corrupted or something ( I didn't pay attention) but it gives you the option to repair it and I repaired it by choosing OSU of the application it showed and now It doesn't become blackscreen anymore, I will be online if you need further guidance.

Yup, worked for me too. Okay, specifically, open Finder, then go to Applications, right click on osu!.app, and choose Show Package Contents. In there, open Songs, and it should say that the alias is broken. Choose Fix Alias, then choose osu! from the list that pops up, and it should work from there.

If you installed Razer Synapse within the time frame you played it earlier today and the time you posted, then delete Razer Synapse. If it's having to do with the bug that other people are experiencing right now, then I can't help you there, because I haven't played Osu on my mac in a while.

Hello,

I was trying to do the wineskin update thing...but now the wineskin app in the osu app is damaged =(... I've been having weird problems... my Osu! doesn't want to load correctly on my mac. Sometimes I have to click the app twice to get it to load...and then, it has to keep re-updating itself each time I load it. It's really weird. =/

Try to use raw input on osu! options.
Also try disabling mouse acceleration:

On terminal.app write
defaults write NSGlobalDomain com.apple.mouse.scaling -1.0
Log out (or reboot).
Play.

I do not recommend using magic mouse to play osu!, btw.

Because the downloadble osu wrapper is outdated, and wineskin came with so many bugfixes and performance upgrades

I recommend to do these steps ...

1. Install Wineskin (Drag and Drop into your applications folder) from this webiste: http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-i ... =Downloads
2. Run Wineskin.app
3. Download Latest Engine
4. Update to latest Wrapper Version

5. Now Right click your wineskin application ( in this case osu!.app)
6. Inside osu!.app run Wineskin.app
7. Run Advanced> Tools> Change Engine Used ( use the latest Engine you actually downloaded)
8. Run Advanced> Tools> Update Wrapper and do this TWICE, i REPEAT DO IT TWICE because i have experience that some applications have issue when u do this only once
9.Run and enjoy osu!

10. aditional after long time playing you feel like your osu is freezing or approach circles are lagging you can open Terminal.app and run this command:
sudo purge

What it does it clean up your mac memory.

I think that wineskin is stalling or stealing much memory after long run.

Hope this will be helpful.

I'll plan to make wrapper running 4.0 NET (actually i have one)

This solved all the lagging problems I had!
Now osu on mac is almost as same as on Windows!

I tried this out several times now but everytime my framerate drops about 50 % and I am actually getting much worse performance in terms of latency. Even when I downgrade to the original wine engine it won't go back to the F tePS I get usually. This is the part that concerns me the most. I can only get back into the original performance if I do a complete reinstall of Osu! removing it completely from my drive and redownloading it.

My current Osu! performance is OK but there is still a lot of room for improvement. I tried the D3D9 Anti Lag thing and didn't work either. I assume it's because it accesses windows driver in order to modify this option for rendering frames ahead. I already considered a boot camp installation of Windows 8 but I really would like to avoid that if possible since I don't want to spent 100$ on a license.
NubiiNeth
So I have a HUGE problem with the application.

Before I explain the problem I feel I should voice the problems leading to the 'HUGE' problem.
So I had noticed whenever you tried to go from the application to a website provided by it (IE: downloading a song or changing your profile) it would occasionally work. While this was a minor annoyance i would just try it again and would usually work. But 1 out of the maybe 10 times I had to do this, it instantly turned the screen completely black as if it shut off, but music was still playing, but now becoming completely unresponsive to any command aswell as turning it off via power button. So I removed power from it and just restarted it thinking it was just my computer freezing up. But the very next time it happened (week or two) I followed the same procedure as before and the computer would not turn on.

And now that's where I am at with this huge problem. I am unable to turn on my mac whatsoever, I hear the fans occasionally and it still gets hot, but I just won't turn on. Now my problem may not be directly related to the application, but it had never happened besides when running the application. I was hoping I could get help from someone experienced with macs or maybe the same problem. I wanna make sure I can't get help from others within this forum before I go spend 100-600$ trying to fix it.

Best Regards,
NubiiNeth

Okay first, please suck on this lollipop while I answer your post. 🍭

Under my own testing on three different macs, I get equal performance to my PC, and can play osu! to the same level I can on windows (using wineskin). This does not mean I have stopped work towards a more native solution (by native I mean mono), but these things take time. Progress is being made, and in fact, the next big step is switching to .NET 4.0 targeting, which is ready at my end. I am simply waiting for enough users to upgrade their PCs to make this transition as seamless as possible.

I would love to know what kind of mac you are attempting to run osu! on, and whether you have fiddled with the settings. I can't imagine how your performance can be so shocking you would make the statements you are.

Notes:
* "sky-painting" took 30 minutes.
* i have spent many hours working towards .NET 4 targeting. no, you haven't noticed this because you don't read the changelogs, follow my dev streams, read my twitter or blog, etc.
* i haven't been able to actually make forward progress with osu1 coding because i've been too busy keeping the game running. yes, that takes time and effort and most of that is handled by me alone.

and yes, as you say, gaming on OS X will always be sub-par. the operating system itself doesn't lend to 3d gaming (it hardly handles 2d desktop rendering and multitasking, which is why i'm gradually moving away from it to run windows across all my PCs/notebooks).
manjumochi
I don't know about Agrrox, but I'm running in a old iMac late 2009 w/ Core2Duo 3.06GHz
Since I don't play (or own) on a winPC, I don't know how much performance I'm losing (also, there are issues w/ other hardware like mice/graphical tablets and keyboard). The only thing I miss is not to use advanced graphics settings because the machine is weak.

Gaming on OSX can be good. It depends on who make the games. For example, Blizzard games like Starcraft 2 run absolutely beautiful in my experience (ofcourse, they probably have entire divisions dedicated to porting games over to OSX.) I rarely drop under 60 fps in it.

With that said, I am really looking forward to the day there is a better OSX version of osu available. I pretty much only keep a bootcamp partition for osu :p

Looking forward to .net 4.0 to improve performance

Running on macbook pro retina 2012 core i5 2.5GHz , 8gb ram, intel HD 4000, and The performance is not the best as on bootcamp. On bootcamp I can get up to 300˜350 fps, and in wine only 140 in max, hope that change to 4.0 will improve a lot my performance on mac.

this

I would recommend the above, however, I have had no problems playing osu! with the wrapper from the first post of this tread. (Haven't bother to upgrade wine engine)
Running at 300 FPS no problems can push it to 450-500 on unlimited.

System:

Late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina Display
2.3 GHz i7
OSX 10.9.4
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M

Native Resolution: 2880x1800 Retina
Osu! Resolution: 1440x900 (non-HDPI) <-- I actually don't mind this very much not very noticeable while in game or playing.
Windowed Borderless

P.S. I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this before, if you have a Retina Display and are using Parallels to play osu!, you will be playing at your native Retina resolution, not HDPI mode. (Impacts game performance too)
mm201
Works for me in Parallels. (resolution warning)
Make sure you've unlocked the full resolution in the VM settings.

Yeah, the resolution while running Parallels kills your Framerate.

Hmmm, does your background periodically change? That might cause it.
Kurogamii
desktop background isn't in periodically change mode

So looking at your system specs, it could be that your computer needs an upgrade or you gotta run osu! in a lower resolution (my comp's fan goes off whenever I play osu!).

I really have no idea about the random lag spikes though.

You could also try running osu! in Parallels.
