I haven't been playing OSU! for a long while because my computer has been shot. I'm finally pissed at it because my line of work requires a very strong computer. People have been telling me I should build my own computer, but let's face it--I'm fucking lazy. (Also the computer I am on is from 2002.)

I want a good gaming computer. Can someone recommend me a good one?

Oh, my budget is 500-700 USD

You could build a decent computer there for 600USD easy, but if you can expand the budget to 800 or 900, even better.

I sympathize with the laziness aspect. Maybe something like this?

This computer has a quad core Intel processor with a decent amount of RAM, should run fast and smooth. Dual ATI cards will be decent enough considering your budget, and you can have multiple monitors (probably up to 4).

You can always upgrade parts of it later, and you can replace the OS with whatever you want, maybe if your old computer had XP just reinstall that with the same key? To make the most of this computer, I would recommend pirating purchasing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. 64-bit operating system will run faster than 32-bit.

You won't get much better than this for the price even if you do build it yourself. I looked for Core i7 desktops but they are $1000 USD and over.

If I can be of any more assistance or you would like to ask me questions, feel free to contact me via MSN or forum PM.

There are, of course, some people who have had problems but it tends to be rather hit and miss with computers anyway. I'd just say go for it, it'll probably be fine - you tend to get people reviewing only if things are really bad or really good.

Fuck buying no-name brands on Amazon, go to a site with quality builds and good support.

Hardly. The computer's only worth about $700 new, they just set an insanely high list price on it to make it look cheap.

I kind of have a love hate relationship with AMD...I was thinking about going towards Tigerdirect...

Also, I don't need to pirate Windows 7. I can get it whenever I want.

Well I actually bought my current desktop from an up-start company via Amazon UK and haven't had bother with stuff breaking or anything due to poor assemble quality. Support-wise, I can't comment because I prefer to fix everything myself or get it fixed locally.

Having said that, this company had already won around 50 value for money awards. Guess you just have to gamble.

Edit: As well as all this... my computer is basically a prebuilt system comprised of a Cooler Master chassis, and quality components, not lesser known branding. Only the label of the finished product is small.

Oh lawd.

Tell us the following three things:
  1. What you need,
  2. What you want, and
  3. What would be nice.

I'm a gamer, but I also have to work with Photoshop. I have no idea what I need nor want. This is my first time buying a new computer.

The main things I would recommend to you in this case:

-Dual core or quad core CPU (preferably Intel Core 2 or Core i7 based)
-4GB DDR2 RAM or 3GB DDR3 RAM (type depends on processor, DDR3 usually reserved for Intel Core i7)
-1GB dedicated graphics (GPU), ATI or NVIDIA.
-Large, fast HDD 500GB~1.5TB (look for gaming/high performance oriented brand lines such as WD Caviar black)

AMD processors still have processor die size of 65nm, whilst Intel Core 2/Core i7 platforms use 45nm. Intel CPUs therefore have better performance. Intel CPUs tend to run cooler than AMD.

You can get a decent gaming computer for 500-700 dollars nowadays. Pokebis is a butt.

If you want a backup harddrive (or want a slow main HDD...) I'll sell you my WD Green 1TB for 75$ (+ shipping). That's at least 10$ cheaper than Newegg. =>

Despite all the "negatives" of AMD CPU's (larger die size than Intel and even AMD's own video cards, generally slower, generally hotter) they do have their advantages (generally well overclockable, can be upgraded without a new socket (this is a problem with Intel IMO =[), generally more clocks/$).

I'm not sure how much you can salvage from an old computer, but you may be able to save a bunch of money on a case and PSU (and shit like the keyboard, mouse, monitor, CD drive, card reader, OS, etc.).

Honestly, I think you should wait until nVidia bites back at ATI and AMD releases its new shit. Prices should shoot down by the summer, I think.

This computer is VCR shaped, and everything is almost shot. The Graphic Card is complete shit and overheats at almost everything that I do. The current computer I have is AMD, and even back in it's prime, I disliked it. I guess I have to balance the pros and cons.

But thank you all.

And yes, I know Pokebis is being a fail troll.

Thank you very much. I will keep that in mind while shopping.

You all (besides Pokebis) have been very helpful for me. While I have nothing to offer you, please consider my gratitude as being close to a reward.
Happy to help, mate. :3

protip: wait till nvidia stops being major fgts and finally release their new "3d multimonitor dx11" gpus.

Right now, ATI is abusing the market right now. Crazy prices on 5800's since they are the only dx11 cards, and they also stopped the 4800 production, so the price on those are rocketing too.

So my advice for you would be, if you can, wait couple more month, atleast for your GPU. There aren't any good cpus coming out anytime soon, so this would be a great time to buy that.
