Is there an in-game record button or keybind? Or does it do it automatically? I finally completed a song that a friend challenged me to do, and I can't prove I did it because I don't know how to save my replays.

No, no recording. But you can save it as a .osr which is a replay file that can be opened in osu! Or you can hit F12 and take a screenshot and show it your friend.

Forgot about screenshotting..
How does the .osr file work though? He plays too, it'd be great to have solid proof on him. Calling photoshop and all that..

In your osu! folder, a folder named Replays or in Data>r has the .osr files

You just need to have osu! open the .osr file and it will load the replay.
To save a replay, just check the box that says Save local replay.
