So I have this problem that I try to figure out the stream maps I have downloaded so NATURALLY i do this

But the problem is that there are people who think its a good idea to put the word stream in the song tag like this

So then this happens in my game

Thats not what I want is it? Not all of them are stream difficulties. If I type "stream" in song search I dont want non stream difficulties to show up come on.

Why cant every beatmap be like this. The map has multiple difficulties, but only the stream difficulty shows. The mapper did not put stream in the tag of the song, but instead just in the difficulty name of the stream difficulty. Genius. Convenient. Perfect.

Why would anyone want it to have it the wrong way instead of the rigth way?

So how about an addition to the ranking criteria or just some agreement between the BATs to make sure that the tags are not retarded?
silmarilen
i think this topic is more retarded than putting streams in the tags, the tags can say anything about the beatmap, including something only found on one of the diffs

also this belongs here

So basically you want per-diff tagging with some universal tags being placed depending on the beatmap's patterns.

Moving to FR.

don't we have collections for this sort of stuff???
gonna be honest, i'm not sure if this should be in feature requests or ranking criteria :/
TheVileOne
I have the opposite problem. I want to find maps that play a certain way and they aren't grouped in any particular way. I have to sort them manually with collections. I'm way too lazy for that.

I know that the tags can say anything. Thats why i made this thread so hopefully in the future this would not be the case anymore...

At least the Epic Diff of Midnight Siege was a small Stream Map. However I see what's the purpose of this thread. Actually the real issue is that people put Tags which shouldn't be there for obvious reasons. You also do not put "jumps" as Tag into a Beatmap which contains one Diff with a lot of Jumps. Or also not the tag "anti-jumps".
Well.. there is exactly one Map with the tag "jumps" and four with "deathstream". Also the usage of the word "stream" is not only by a kind of Map but also for Names of a serie or for a Mapper (Star Stream as example)

The exmaple "You & Me" is a pretty old Map - which isn't efficient to use it here for that since people liked to use such Difficulty names. For the daily's standard it's not that recommened to use them to prevent confusion.

I guess lurking through tons of maps will be the best option to find Stream Maps. :P

How can having stream in difficulty name confuse people? Also there is a newer map for example http://osu.ppy.sh/b/91215 if you want

Well fix to your problem is kinda included in this thread. I want BATs to make sure that people use tags in a correct way instead of letting people do what ever they want obvlivious to how it affects people like us.
Stefan
I honestly do not see why using "Stream" into a Difficulty name.

You can search [Stream]

This request is invalid.

Arent you a bright one.

Nice backseat moderation though

Both I would say... Unless I am mistaken, per-diff tagging is not possible at the moment except by editing .osu files manually, so this is a FR. But universal tags belong to ranking criteria. So...

Maybe splitting the thread in both forums would be the best option to continue the talk.

You can have different tags per difficulty without editing the .osu. >.>

It will create inconsistencies when searching online though. It shouldn't be supported until it is handled better on the forum.

My bad, I have almost never used the editor so I still lack knowledge in this area :?

i am aware of this, that's why i was thinking of this being in ranking criteria, not feature requests :p

You would have to search for different things like [Streams] or [ stream] or [stream ] putting spaces in it would include longer diff titles.
[box=Searching for [ stream:1337]brings up stuff with * stream][box=Searching for [stream:1337]brings up stuff with stream *]
Again this is invalid. You just don't know how to search for stuff. Also people normally don't name their difficulties as "Stream" and it's better to tag it. Commonly though [Extra] or [Another] will be full of streams, so look those up. You're also going to want to add OD>=7 to your search so it removes those easy difficulties from your search.

Alright then :)

Couple of concerns I have with this.

1. How would the online search work in this case, since it is by map-set, and not by difficulty? Would it return a map as long as any diff matched the keyword?
2. How much detail would we need to go into for a standardized tagging system? "Stream" and "jump" seem easy enough (although quite subjective, to be honest), but what about other techniques "triplets", "squares", "etna sliders", "1/3 patterns", "ztrot spacing", "accelerating sliders", etc...? On a similar vein, how streamy does a map need to be to fit under that category? If a 4-minute map contains a single 30-note 1/4 stream, is that enough?
3. Kind of a side point, but if your name contains the word "stream", all of your maps will show up regardless of jumpiness.

Sea_Food wrote:

The main issue with putting these into the difficulty names is the problem of detail, as per above. We can't have difficulties named "Kytoxid's Jumping Quintuplet Stack Insane with a Long 1/8 Deathstream". Even at a basic level though, I'm not sure mappers would be willing to put the word "stream" into every difficulty that contains streams.

I guess what I mean is that we need a more rigorous wording of the rule if you want to add this to the ranking criteria for modders/BATs to monitor. "Tags must be used in a correct way." doesn't work as a rule because everyone would interpret it differently.
Wafu
Correct tagging? If someone uses "stream" as a tag, because he has stream in a map, it should be deleted because it is not related to song, it's normal element in maps and it totally shouldn't be in tags or difficulty name. It's like I would add these tags: "circle, spinner, slider, stream, 1/6 note, 1/8 note, storyboard" etc. It is simply unimportant thing!
Kytoxid
Going to deny this one.

There's an open topic discussing tag consistency here: t/157799

Until that discussion concludes, this isn't really possible. The change request is also too vague, and judging from the thread, no one seems interested in this change.
