I have a friend who once raped a 17yr old girl.
He told me it was mostly out of anger. It was a mix of bad parents, bullies and bad influences that led him to do this. He's still in prison BTW.
I still call him friend because he really isn't a bad guy. He was always definetly nicer than me during highschool. I knew that he had problems with his dad, but something bad must have happened to get him to do something as bad as this.
Guess we should just be careful with the people around us.

Just make sure you're not blaming his parents or whatever for it. Sure, they might've given him a hard life, but as Dulcet said- there's no excuses to hurt someone who's totally innocent like that, and *especially* not when it comes to rape. A lot of people get their lives absolutely ruined just because some guy decided to do that, eurghgh, you must have no idea how much it can hurt somebody.Ceph23 wrote:

I agree that he did something really unforgivable and that he deserves every punishment he received and maybe even more. And maybe the only reason why I still call him friend is my foolish decision too try and see the good in all people. But I feel a bit guilty.
I mean I've known the guy for a very long time so I knew about the things that were hurting him. If I knew that these things would eventualy lead him to do something despicable, I would have done what I could to convince him not to.
It just bothers me that I never did anything to help him before it was too late.
So I still treat him like my friend.
I can somewhat relate. First off, relax guys, Ceph is in no way trying to "justify" the crime or give an "excuse"; she's simply stating the essential core character of her friend. It is not always the case that someone who commits a crime is automatically and forever distinguished as a "bad guy". For instance, during acute depression I too have resorted to sexual means for relief. While nowhere near the degree of underage rape, I can at least understand the motives and pressures that led to his decision. (Relax, I said understand, not acknowledge).Ceph23 wrote:

No, it's perfectly understandable. I still think you're trying to justify his actions just because of his life, but I guess that you really don't want to accept what happened. And you're definitely right about not abandoning him, he really needs help- I just don't want him to be taught that he did nothing wrong, and that it was all his parents' fault, etc.Ceph23 wrote:
Ok point taken.
The guy is messed up like pickle flavored ice cream I get it. I know I can't blame it all on the shit that happened in his life and he deserves to get his dick get ripped apart by tigers or something. Maybe he decieved us by showing us a fake version of himself for 11 damned years and maybe he is rotten to the core.
But please understand he was my friend before he became like this. It's hard to just abandon a person you've grown up with because of a single defining moment. We WANT to see him change for the better.
As stupid and foolish as it might sound, we aren't giving up on him yet.
I don't expect many people to understand this.
That's quite an extreme claim. You'd be surprised how much of an impact mental health and context can make, to an otherwise perfectly gentle person.DaddyCoolVipper wrote:
To be able to rape someone, your "core character" has to be the type that could.

Going out and molesting a fangirl - be it with a lasting relationship between these two actions - is exactly what happened!DaddyCoolVipper wrote:
Controversial opinion: Public shaming him for this is going pretty far. I think it's quite a personal issue, not something that the entire world needs to know- after all, he's not going out and molesting his fangirls or whatever.
i think HE (renard) goes to therapy, not her.Liiraye wrote:
It may be wrong/inappropriate/illegal or w/e but come on. He touched his (girlfriend?) who slept in his bed on her own will (prolly after sex anyway) and boom - he's a rapist pig manipulative scumbag? I think this has blown way out of proportion unless I missed something. Please lmk if so.
Note I think he's a scumbag pig because of other reasons. I do not condone this type of behavior unless it's mutual ofc. Stil,l making a public scene and going to therapy because your s/o groped you in your sleep? I and Sooo many other people who have been through ten times worse stuff without the need of therapy see this as a cry for attention. Hate all you want but I think stuff like this can be resolved by a simple face to face dialogue.
Didn't mean to go OT but I just felt like expressing my opinion on the matter.
If a random sleezeball would grope me in my sleep Id beat him upMr Color wrote:
