Rank goes down if you do good on songs?

For about two months my rank has been unchanged, hasn't even gone down staying at #73,937. Then just today I decide to play a song on the front page of osu!. After playing 3 difficulties on the song (and ranking good on the songs) Now, I know I don't understand the ranking system entirely but isn't your rank supposed to improve upon reaching under rank #400 in songs? Not go down?

Probably because you rank didn't update until you got that score. Also ranks around your area can be pretty glitchy as well.

ranks do not update if you do not play, just to make it more clear. Your ranks didn't visibly change in the time you didn't play, but in actuality your rank has been decreasing the whole time.

also low ranks can have glitchy scores and ranks

This. Playing updated your rank - which had gone down. Even if you played and earned pp you may have lost ranks.

It doesn't mean that every song you play gives you pp, only sogns that give you pp update your score. To get pp you have to rank high in a song.

ppv2 was put on hold I think so it's not going to come out any time soon.
