osu! taught me that some rhythm game communities aren't utter shit. (To those who were actually around during Nexon Audition/Redbana Audition, they know what I'm talking about.)

Is that something osu has taught you? For me it was pretty obvious long before playing osu.

Oh, uh right, stuff osu taught me...

Ultimately it was just a way to observe how skills work and I could retrace my in-game growth with other skills such as writing, drawing, and debating. It also taught me that there are gaps that can be bridged when it comes to skill. In other words, it taught me that (essentially) practice was the answer to life.

I'm not trying to say that anyone could become the best if they pulled their hair out enough times in frustration. I'm saying that people keep exceeding their limits again and again as time passes. There is no such thing as stagnation as long as there is a drive, but that doesn't necessarily mean everything will go smoothly and quickly.

That steady practice really does make one better.

Kinda motivates me to do productive things (except learn the guitar, that's never happening).

Hmm.

I've learnt to appreciate a wider range of music, some of which I wouldn't have had the chance to catch otherwise. A good example would be certain doujin circles, overseas artistes and similarly obscure bands and the like.

Another thing would be patience, and tolerance towards another person.
Connections, through my interactions within the community, it makes you realize how nice it is to have contacts and friends across the world.

Hmm.
The storyboarding aspect of the game has also given me opportunities and insight on how to animate/storyboard effectively using certain techniques and with limited resources/elements.

Perhaps the most important, is that while people (myself included, of course), at times can be disappointments and be full of crap, be gracious anyway.

Become more sarcastic & sardonic.
