That's kind of awp's role. He is part of Saturos' army but thinks of himself as a "special case", in that he's an equal, can't be bossed around etc. From awp's perspective, he and the rest of Saturos' army, including Saturos himself, are all in a race to put an end to the heroes, though his motives, - both direct and alterior - are probably going to be subject to ambiguity and also change from time to time.

Running with this idea, awp could join the main party near the end with the following argument: "If I'm going to win this race, I might as well help them (the heroes) out and knock off my competition - we have the same enemies."

I read the whole thread and I've noticed I don't have a role yet.
I think I would be the one of the starting imbalanced, badass characters then suddenly got infected by the virus (gabe?) somewhere in the part of the story. Then obviously leaves the party to stop the main characters (recurring boss too, since I sometimes like to join other people too) then afterwards virus got removed (after getting owned for a few times + blablabla) but decides not to return to the party but to be alone blablabla and I won't finish the role.

dood James you're totally this badass mercenary-ish character that pretty much has no loyalties to anybody. So your idea would work with it.

James could discover he's been infected, but not say anything about it to anyone else and bugger off on his own as a result to try and stop it by himself.

MAX! - A limit break level attack that charges up based on how long you can play MAX 3000. Exponentially increased damage from 3 to 3000, displayed as '3!', '30!', 'MAX 300!', 'MAX 3000!'.
Sagisu 72 - A special skill that can be learned once buying EiJi's skillbook. Gives you perfect accuracy for a temporary time.

Gravity and Solar Beam are parts of Summon Vic skill, obtained thru Solar Stone. Gravity is slider challenge (sumthing like Psychokinesis pins in TWEWY), and Solar Beam... Well... Notestreams plz.

furthermore why does everyone think their skills are their own beatmaps? one of burai's attacks is Shotgun Symphony, which happens to be my beatmap, so uhhhhh...

Is Saturos defenseless? He got no beatmaps.

I assumed the attacks were beatmaps.
Maybe if a character hasn't made beatmaps, they could have beatmaps that they're number 1 for.

But I think some people need a skill list, because it would be helpful. But by the time this gets made, everyone will probably have made more maps, and aced more songs, so it'll probably be different.

Edit: Also, this would pwn on the DS. What do you guys think, PC or DS?

Screw this, that program is impossible to use. Also, it makes adventure games, and crappy ones at that. You can't even export the game as a .nds. <.<

We need to hold auditions for NPCs - those who just wander around the towns. No attacks, no abilities, just someone to talk to during the game for pointless advice. Anyone interested?

If you make it for the DS, don't use someone else's shitty engine imo

But the DS is effectively alienating a majority of the osu! community, simply because they don't have flash cards (poor Sinistro ;___;) plus a lot of the DS hardware coding would be a bitch. PC imo

Yeah, Skins would be armour.
Every character would start with the default osu skin, and places would sell skins.
Maybe you get to go to the Hideout of Luigi's Delinquents, and you can buy all kinds of skins there.

Hideout of Luigi is like a hidden area not even visible in the world map (just ripped this off from some games, SO2)

and sells every expensive semi-imbalanced stuff.

and yeah everyone in the main party would start in default armors/skins
even their weapons? mouse(flail), pen+tablet(SnS), crappy tablet pc(book for mages?)
and where is the sword? i guess there is none?

Well, I wouldn't know about engines, seeing as I haven't ever used RPG Maker, so I don't know how good it is, but it might have to be a custom engine.

I wonder what the "ultimate weapons/armor" would look like? Maybe we can have that katamari cursor be an ultimate weapon, and the more you kill, the more sticks to the weapon, increasing damage output. Although there has to be an upper limit for that.

Speaking of armor, will the skins change the appearance of the player character, or are they just for show?

It's easy as hell to code. It's just a matter of adding additional sprites to the game - if everyone is the same size and has the same animations you can get away with one spriteset per armour, otherwise you've gotta refit it to each character. Easy to program, though.

Speed should so be BPM or something analogous. HP (or possibly MP instead) could be something like Rhythm/Tempo/Beat/Groove.

Based on how we cannot interact with them in the chat or the forums, they sound pretty good for faceless, nondescript grunts. The numbers bring to mind automation, mass production...they could be like brainwashed clones, or robots or something.

Chiming in on the whole engine issue, I really would suggest something like RPGMaker. Might not be the best engine, but you can get things quickly done with it, and you don't have to wait for awp to finish his stuff to begin working on it.

Most game assets are transferrable stuff anyways: if you have the plot, a bunch graphics and a general idea of how you're going to implement things, engines can be switched during development. Just my 2 cents here...

Should read the first post, but it's a long ass irc log, so I'll post my suggestions here like the lazy bastard I am.

Anyhow...since everything's going to be themed after osu!, I suggest that attacks would be called beats and magic would be called beatmaps. Then we could have magic spells/beatmaps like "agony", which...say...does X amount of damage and a poison effect on the enemy to boot. I already saw suggestions that armors would be called "skins" and instead of necklaces/rings, there'd be "mods".

I also suggest that the bad guys would be called The Army of Osutardation or something and would mostly be mods that have been too lazy to mod things, lately. Gabe is an otherwise awesome idea for an antagonist, but do we really need to give him extra fame and credit for anything? ;)

Something screwed up? = your glasses.
After fixing it, you will give your glasses to the protagonist which adds +points to accuracy. (accessory)
you gave the glasses because you can see clearly now whatever the reason.

Someone needs to write up an actual text story thing for this, with paragraphs and stuff, outlining how the story is presented in the game and the various things the player has to do to beat the game in order. It's confusing reading multiple pages of unordered IRC logs.

Also, about the luigihann selling skins as armor thing, maybe luigihann's skin shop appears to be just a regular item shop from the outside, and you can go there and buy items of average-below average value. But as part of a side-quest thing, someone lets you in on the secret that the shop actually sells illegal skins as well(perhaps as a reward for fixing my glasses?), and they tell the player a "password", which you can tell to the person working at the shop and he'll let you go behind the shop where you can meet luigihann and buy his skins. So the item shop itself is just like cover for the fact that luigihann sells illegal skins.

Reason for the skins being illegal would be that they give the wearer power, which is why whoever it is that enslaved the place banned them, because he doesn't want to risk being overthrown by someone in power.

I don't really play RPGs too much, so...

Someone tells the player the password, they go to the shop, say the password, and get it wrong, but get it close enough.

The thing I'd like to keep in mind when developing events is that they're A - reminiscent of osu!, and B - they make sense. Some ideas can be used as they are, some will need revision (possibly to the point where they're nearly unrecognizable from what we see here) and some will unfortunately have to be pitched if they simply don't work.

Based on Saturos's place in the story, the fangirl can easily be portrayed as a sort of religious zealot.

Sin and I joked about him being the God of Time (if you really are the God of Time Kharl please have mercy on our souls we mean you no disrespect) but idk how big the "main city" is at this stage of the game. If it ends up being the size of a kingdom then yeah he'd be a King, and he is kind of the "Keeper of Time" anyhow - I don't know how royal figureheads would play into it, buuuuuut...

Let's just say Kharl likes to be humble about it.
