I've tried the demo a little bit now. It's good to see ZUN kept Spell Practice in, I really like the stage 3 boss, she has some fun attacks, I think I only managed to capture one on Lunatic though they were pretty hard >.<.
Did a run on easy to see how many resources you can get
can't say anything for the scoring system all I can see at the moment is graze to increase PIV, hopefully there's a bit more to it than that.
Overall it's been a fun game so far

That was a full bomb stock +1, getting an extra bomb with a full stock already doesn't loose it, after using one your stock is still full.

Had a few local multiplayer matches~
and so last week, i started playing Touhou 8 and gosh, so hard even on easy mode :/ . i cant pass beyond Eirin Yagokoro, she's too tough; i'm so stuck with her. And also, Marisa/Reimu are fairly tough too, glad i passed them =w=

I tried playing Touhou Mystic Square. It all went well until Yumeko boss fight. Then, I had to waste lots of continues on the fight against Shinki. My god, those fat homing blobs were horrifying.

-Be under her as much as possible. The longer you take on the card, the harder it gets
I think Kogasa's second card is harder than any of Nue's spells from what I've seen

There isn't a main plot in Touhou. Each game has its own story and don't really have a connection to one another, so you can pretty much start on any Touhou game. However, there will be some characters that have appeared in the previous games (mainly final bosses) making their appearances again on later games. I recommend you just start with Touhou Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.Dumie wrote:

I really should have tried the demo, it was my first playthrough and Sekibanki completely ate me with her head lasers. I know the method to dodge it, but with all the other blue bullets it just blanks out. At this point I rage-Easy'd. Imaizumi didn't really pose a problem though.

I managed to 1cc DDC on my first try on normal mode. Oh my Tenshi, that was one tough game. I was misled by the demo since the first three stages weren't all that difficult, at least for normal mode. Then came stage 4, the dreaded stage 4 of all Touhou games. And then there's stage 5, where you have enemies that fire danmaku from the bottom! The boss itself was certainly the most challenging part of this stage with her horrifying screen manipulation. I just didn't even bother with her spellcards and bombed my way through since I was panicking. The final boss was awesome. It's been a while since we had a final boss with a survival spellcard since Kaguya.
I'm quite curious just how the story goes.

Well, after playing it and reading the character bios, I think I have a theory of it.
SPOILER
Seija Kijin(S5 Boss) is a troublemaker who wishes to "turn Gensokyo upside-down" with chaos and ruin the current balance where the strong rule. She finds out that the Lucky Mallet is in Shinmyoumaru Sukuna's (S6 Boss) possession, as she's a descendant of Issun-bōshi, so she persuades Shinmyoumaru to make some sort of wish with the Mallet (that might be strengthening the youkai and making them berserk) so they can take revenge. However the Mallet has a price for its use. (Might be empowering the heroines' weapons). S1-S4 bosses seem to be affected by the wish, but not directly related to the incident.
Raiko Horikawa (EX Boss) is a Drum Tsukumogami which was affected by the wish. She was empowered and given anger, but knew the effects would only last until the Mallet's effects end, so she decided to dispose of her original drum-body with the Mallet's power and use an Outside World drumkit so she would still keep her powers even after the Mallet stopped the wish. You mean Reimu? Well, In DDC... I didn't use Sakuya that much ( I'm sticked with using Marisa A or Marisa with Her Flame-Thrower... Much Easier for Me )... You'll be troubled If You're using Sakuya in DDC, consider after Stage 4 to Last Boss... You'll find many Blue Danmakus firing at You which will make Your Job harder because Sakuya's Cloth is Blue and Match Color with that Blue Danmakus (But I'm still can't Neglecting Her, I'm feeling sad You know thatAoko wrote:

Finally managed to complete UFO on Hard difficulty. Had to use 100+ continues for Stage 4, 5 and 6. Seriously, those stages were way too damn hard.

Finishing with a full life stock seems to net almost half of your score from the end bonus (with the exception of Marisa B). Other than that capturing all the spellcards and grazing to raise the PIV, also make sure to collect point items by PoCing to get them at full value. I don't remember exactly how I did because that picture is from long time ago, but I used as skill-cards rocket dive and hell geyser, both skills upgraded at level 2 (I used rocket dive as combo finisher because it forces 100% limit) And I don't used any system card to increase damage like Control Rod, just the skill cards I mentioned abovePizzicato wrote:

so basically, Hisouten games are a combination of 2d-fighting games, Danmaku shooters and TCGs. each maiden has a deck of 20 cards that are formed by Skill cards, Spell cards and others. Skill cards power-up your current skills that you can perform with Half-circle motions or Dragon punch motions, or change them into new skills. Spell cards are like KOF Desperation moves, that require a certain amount of Card gauges in order to be executed. both skill cards and spell cards can be used by just pressing the Use card button. you can select which card you want to use by pressing the swap card button. also the Maidens can fly and graze through attacks, but certain attacks cannot be grazed though. using skill cards, spell cards, flying, graze and blocking attacks cost magic. when the magic bar depletes, it refills automatically. but if the bar depletes when blocking, you'll have a guard crush and 1/5 of the bar cannot be used temporarily. weather conditons will occur at random, applying diverse effects. now that i started this Hisouten thing, i wanted to share my thoughts with you. tell me if i missed or mispelled something
