So the MAG beta was, as expected, not released today. I'll see if it comes out on Thrusday, but I doubt it.

Anyway, Brutal Legend was way less than what I expected. If I could just buy the cut scenes, I would do that instead of playing the game. That's really what it's all about. I thought the combat would be a little more refined than it is and the car driving is just...I dunno. The thing I probably don't like the most is the RTS-style stuff in the game, but I just don't like RTS games. I guess Psychonauts was too good to follow-up. Brutal Legend is seriously hilarious though. I'll get it eventually.

Well, Tim Schafer always intended it to be more of a heavy metal pikmin.

It does a lot of things and none of them particularly well, except humor.

Anyway, gonna get Uncharted 2 in a little bit at the midnight launch.

Edit: Boom!

Been awhile ~ but anyway..

I WANT UNCHARTED II! I can't wait until it releases in NZ!!! >////<

BTW - an update. I have a new PSN ~ just to make it easier for some others that know me. So I'm now on as Repliica ~ feel free to add because I'm on a lot more now x3

Picked up Borderlands today, which was probably stupid. Haven't played it yet, but it'll probably be cool. Gonna pick up Ratchet on Tuesday.

Uncharted 2 is rather pretty looking and is apparently a very good game (My brother seems to be enjoying it quite a bit and speaks highly of it. If I wanted to I could probably blaze through Uncharted 1 and 2 in the next 11 days but I think I'll just pace myself with LBP while I have access to it.
Repliica
Uncharted 2 is a great game in many ways. Not only is the gameplay fun but it's also visually beautiful in many ways. I finished the game about 2days ago and loved it. I found a lot of strengths in the game and recommend it to anybody.

For those who happen to pick up Uncharted 2 and wana play online I'm usually there now =3 only a level 14 though (somebody just quit a co-op game and I lost all those points.. damn them!)

But back to the game, you'll enjoy it. I was told "It's like watching/playing through a movie" and you don't really believe that until you actually play through it. Plus there are huge explosions and so many epic moments in the game that you're just bound to love it! This sequel was wonderful and once it finished all I could say was "When is Uncharted 3 coming out!?"

But yes, I recommend the game to you all, you're bound to enjoy it!

The driving in Borderlands sucks so hardcore. I don't know why they had to mess with success aka steering with the fucking left stick/X to accelerate. Left stick up/down accelerates/reverses and you have to steer with the right stick 100%. Left/right on the left stick doesn't help at all. It's just so counter intuitive and clumsy. Guh.

Other than that, though, it's pretty fun.

My brother just bought Borderlands and Condemned 2 so I guess I'll try out Borderlands sometime soon.
Oh and he bought Valkyria Chronicles about a week ago but I haven't played it yet.

I've been so unpredictably addicted to it. I thought it was just gonna be like a "I'll play it when I have the time" kind of deal, but jeez, I get so into it. I haven't even touched co-op yet. I've gotten over my driving control woes. This driving scheme lets you do ridiculously sharp U-turns when you slow down. And I like how running something over does waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more damage than simply blowing it up with your ROCKET LAUNCHER TURRET.

Oh, for sure. Can't wait to get that one. I'm a little disappointed with the demo they put up on Thursday. Who the hell wanted a damn Clank demo? Jeez. There's supposed to be a Ratchet demo, too, but by then I'll HAVE THE GAME, so whoopty doo.

By the way, if you did a vowel switch with your name, it'd totally be the name of the villain in Uncharted 2.

I didn't like Morrowind or Oblivion but I loved FO3. Though, I'd recommend getting it for the PC, since it's an FPS (unless you have a Dual-Analog fetish or something) plus mods add more to the game than a console version would ever allow, expansion packs or not.
It's not so much a dual-analog fetish as me having a laptop on a bed and thus a thumb pad for a mouse. Tablets aren't all that FPS friendly, though I guess with half a brain I could just use it as a moue pad or, like... dig out the mouse that came with it. I tend to prefer console because on the computer I have this itching desire to do this horrible thing called "being productive." Which, you know, I'm totally doing. Right now. Oh, hell, I'm just trying to beat the game. X___x Stuck in chapter 6, and have been in the same stupid room for a while. Can't even figure out what the game wants me to do, and too lazy to YouTube it. Usually I figure it out on my own sooner or later, but moments like this and the subway train crapshoot really mar the experience for me.

I did DL the free time trial pack, and to be honest, while it kicks my ass, I'd prefer the whole game have been like that. It focuses on the part I like, where when I die it's my fault and not some random 50/50 chance of one guy landing a headshot in a freak occurrence one can't even replicate on purpose.

Of course, it could be easier if I ever tried to take their guns, but I got the game because of the lack of emphasis on shooting in the first palce. I'm not too able with FPS games because... the last one I played was Turok. The original Turok, not that remake thing nobody likes. I'm not exactly modern, and I wasn't ever good at Turok either. i poked Metroid Prime, too, but was far too good at getting lost to get anywhere much. :c

Yeah, that's why shotguns are my secondary weapons. Sometimes Combat Rifles. I'm guessing you chose Mordecai, too. I have no regrets with him. He's awesome. If people spot me, that's their mistake. I hate those damn Psychos though. If they reach you, your shield and 97% of your health is gone, basically. I've made it to Dahl Headland and they threw in a bunch of vehicular combat that I don't care for. I wonder how this game is in co-op...

Beat Demon's Souls last week. That's one hard game. I used a Wanderer with light swords last game, can survive few hits from high damaging enemies, but the magician I made dies in one hit even when defending (against dual wielding skeleton).

I will try Borderlands on PC, if I like it I might buy the PS3 copy for multiplayer.

That's actually one element of being fan service-y. Not taking risks, sticking to the formula because that's what the fans like. The other has something to do with...well, damn it, I forget. It had something to do with the storyline of the game, I think. But I forget now. It's the last installment, right?
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Last installment of the Future trilogy. I was thinking maybe Dr. Nefarious being the villain again might be fan service-y, cause I bet he's the most popular villain so far. I mean, he IS pretty awesome, but then again, Up Your Arsenal WAS an awesome game. But I dunno. They did a lot different. The space sections are totally different, there are less worlds and it's less combat-based, more story-based, there's the time puzzle thing, and the hoverboots let you actually turn in this game. Besides, after 5 games, there's not much else you can improve, so they just have to changes the basic elements each time. But anyway, this still isn't even close to my favorite one.
Rolled
Give me a game with 20+ hours of storyline and good replay/online value. I have a phat paycheck.

Considering:
L4D2
COD (4? MF2? Never even played the series, just want something to fill the halo void I was given after leaving XB)
GH5? lols
MAG? When's that shit out

Dunno :(

Borderlands? Uncharted 2? Uh... 20 hours is asking a lot of a current gen game. Uncharted 2 isn't 20 hours, but it's got some replay and good online. Borderlands probably has 20 hours with just one playthrough, but you can do it 4 times with the different characters and it's got co-op and it's a shooter with RPG stuff, etc. That's not as fast paced as Modern Warfare will probably be though.

I've been playing A Crack a Time but I needed a recap of the story from my bother cause I've only played a little bit of the first game, but I have to say it's a bunch of fun, I got the Spiral of Death at the battleplex and I got it to V5 by the time I was finished with the next planet. I'm thinking of after I beat Crack in Time to go play the others games.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
The only thing I hate about the Spiral of Death (Spiral of Carnage, to be exact) is that you have to wait for aaall of the blades to fully come back before being able to shoot it again and sometimes a blade just takes its sweet time getting back.
Zaron_old
I got the RYNO V. I am disappointed. That thing doesn't aim because I guess they thought it didn't need to, but that makes it a bit of a pain to use in most situations it actually feels warranted.

I was happy to finally have a game in the Future series that sported an ending that didn't make me want to punch some writers in the face. Other than that, Iunno, the game feels way too brief, and for my last trophy I need to beat it a third freakinng time (should really have just STARTED on hard mode). It's a bit harder than ToD was until you start getting some decent weapons, but once you get the negotiator things feel a bit too simple. The weapon variety seems a lot slimmer (though being able to level what was formerly gadgets is nice), and a bit redundant (magnet and cryo-mines do the same thing, buzz blades and constructo gun are both mainly standby guns).

All in all, ToD is the best part of the PS3 lineup with R&C, imo. This one just felt way too easy, even on challenge mode, and the game was short with a predictable outcome. .-.

In other news, I finally picked up Bioshock.

Grenades are one of the stupid things. That's fixed in the second. Balancing shit is another stupid thing. Fixed in the second. Quicktime events in cutscenes (rarely, which is the problem). Removed completely in the second.
awp
Grenades are worse in the second game. Enemy AI facilitates throwing grenades onto your shoulder with near-perfect consistency.

Unless you mean blast radius. Because it's total shit in the first one; enemies just a meter away from the explosion are fine.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
I meant the way you throw them. You don't have to twist your wrists in ungodly ways to freakin' aim. I like being able to just toss one out and get it over with. Also, you don't have to EQUIP the grenade like in the first one.
awp
Equip part is annoying I guess, yeah. I have no problem using the SIXAXIS to modify pitch - in fact I prefer it to an analog stick. I have more control over slight adjustments that way.

Since Uncharted seems to use the SIXAXIS properly. The head/pelvis movements in LBP felt so buggy.

How do I get the Disgaea 3 trophy patch thing? I can't find it ._.
Anyone?
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
It should be automatic if you're connected to the internet when you try to play the game. At least that's how every trophy patch I've gotten has worked.

@awp: I didn't like having to spend all that time to throw a single grenade. Even though there's absolutely no physics for grenades in the second one, I don't care cause at least they go exactly where I want them to go. Makes things much simpler.
Mafiamaster
Oh wow, thanks! Guess I just never played it ever since I got wireless.

It's undisputably easier to just be able to aim throw the grenade where you already happen to be aiming. And it doesn't even have to be perfect since they're actually effective in the second one.

Don't you just have to run up to a guy, press R1 to shoot him once or twice, then just punch him? Also, you can die to get your streak.
awp
you have to shoot them and then one-punch kill.

But sometimes I'll kick him, and I've determined that does not count. Other times they won't die, since it's actually impossible to achieve with certain weapons (ie 3 shots and a punch will not kill, 4 shots will kill without a punch). And even still, I'm absolutely positive I have one-punched multiple enemies (around 10 or more) after shooting them, and I haven't even gotten the Steel Fist 5 total, never mind 5 in a row. There's some special trick to it that the Internet will have to straighten out for me.

Star Wars is now 30 dollars new in Wal Mart, so I'm thinking of picking that up once I have a source of income.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Question: Have you been run-and-gunning them when you shoot or have you been aiming? Cause the former's much easier and only requires one shot, usually.

As for Star Wars, if you spring for the extra $10 or something, you can get the Ultimate Sith deal with, like, $35 of DLC.
awp

Yeah, I saw that God of War thing. I thought about it, but I don't think I'll get it. If they did a Ratchet remaster thing, however, I'd totally get that. I still need to get the Force Unleashed trophies anyway.

There's this place where you can get the Dyno-might stuff really easy. I forget exactly which level, but I think it might be Fortress? Anyway, it's the part where you can stealth kill two or three enemies in a row, then there's a guy with a grenade launcher up on this thing to the right. Then when you clear that area, you can get up there and use the grenade launcher to shoot the large group of people that comes down from the cliff ahead. If you're lucky, you can get Dyno-might twice, I think. Then you just die and repeat.
awp
Once I clear Crushing, I'm going to find a good location and just spawn grenade launchers. I don't expect to have any difficulty with Dyno-Might. Crushing has been a bit annoying so far. Enemies take 8 rifle shots to kill (roughly 6 pistol) and I'm only on chapter 9.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Shit gets real near the end of the game. The church courtyard fights are a bitch and the interior church fights aren't easy either. I think you already did the plane crash fight, right? Cause that one's one of the hardest, if not THE hardest.

And the problem with Dyno-might which makes it hard is a) blast radius sucks as we all know and b) there's hardly enough people in that blast radius, let alone even nearby each other. So that method was a surefire way of getting 3 together each time.
awp
For the record I know what you're talking about. Pretty sure it's right before you go up to the castle that you have to scale. Chapter four or five. I think it's like ten seconds before chapter five.

Just did the first waterski section. Got past one of the more annoying sections where you drop down into that watery labyrinth of sorts and Drake complains about a plumber. There's a couple more spots I hate, one being in/outside the church, the other in an area that I can picture perfectly but suck at explaining. It's a temple with an open courtyard in the center, and a pathway left and right; the second floor is littered with holes and is only used to get over a wall so you can shoot explosive barrels to blow a door down.

I was doing that scene after the Eddy Raja jailbreak and was frustrated by the slow reload speed of the grenade launcher, since one missed grenade shot gave the enemies enough time to kill you while you were loading the next shot. About halfway through the jeep checkpoints my third time through the game, I realized there was an actual gun on the mount with R1. Fuck that made it so much easier.

You didn't realize the shoot button shoots? o3o Had no problem with the Jeep bit, but I'm on my first run-through playing on Normal, so... yeah.

Uncharted has replaced Batman for "thing to play with girlfriend over" because she's awesome like that, but it makes for very slow progress. Again, budget gamerrrr so I've just finally gotten into the first one. Personally, I ahte SIXAXIS for almost anything, and aiming a grenade takes me a lot of getting shot to throw. Consequently, tehy get very little use from me unless I'm just really tired of dealing with a particular enemy and it seems easy enough to get at them. Thay ain't the brightest about running away...

As for R&C, just need to finish hard mode for my last thing. =3= Still. Been poking at that and Bioshock whilest dealin' with commissions and junk and yay unemployed. As for a collection of the oldies, I'd totally be down for R&C too. 'Twould be amazin', especially since I'd never managed to finish any of the PS2 ones...

I've heard good things of Braid. That interests me...

Braid is a very interesting game. Played it at my brother's house for an hour or two. If for nothing else (and that is a load of crap, there's lots of else) the final level is so worth it. Some of the puzzles are really tough to figure out though. I didn't get through all of them.

I got it on PC, I think I needed help on three pieces, when I checked the walk thru there was another type of collectables I never noticed. I was in disbelief.

So Braid was a little disappointing, but only because I had been thinking it was the greatest thing ever for, like, a full year. Also, the speed runs were kind of a buzzkill. I don't see why they put those in there at all. I'd have rather had challenge puzzles or something.

Anyway, I got the Ultimate Sith thing for Force Unleashed. Time to grind these trophies.

Also, if you didn't hear yet, March 9th for FFXIII. Looks like God of War III is getting some competition~ Or no competition at all since they are probably on opposite ends of the spectrum.
awp
Yeah I don't think there's a lot of overlap between GoW and FF - though I am interested in both, if I had to choose one over the other, honestly I'd probably go for GoW. The Final Fantasys just aren't what they used to be. I think X might have been the last respectable addition to the franchise - at least numerically. Forgot about Crisis Core and DoC, I found both of those pretty enjoyable. But FFTA2, FF12DS, and FF12 all had some level of disappointment to them, though FF12 was at least fun.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Yeah, X was ok, but I got sick of the turn-based stuff after a while. The next turn-based RPG I'll probably play will be Golden Sun DS. I like the action RPGs, so that's why FFXII is my favorite FF so far. Not to mention it kept me occupied for, like, months. FFXIII looks like it's taking a small step in the direction of turn-based though. I think I remember seeing a small, but seamless transition between overworld and battle.
Zaron_old
FF13's trailer (at lest the last I saw) was so melodramatic I almost gagged on it. I'll wind up getting it just for a hopefully decent PS3 RPG seeing as that's the genre I got a PS2 for, but I've gotten far too used to the more upbeat tone of the NIS SRPGs and stuff like Mario and Luigi. Some quantity of humor is nice, or at least something besides the guy everyone marks as the comic relief crying while he point a gun at someone while screaming how suicide isn't worth it or some such wtfery.

GoW's been a bit out of my realm since day 1, and given 3 is all tied in continuity and even more gore than ever I think I've gotten shoved even more away from ever daring to give it a shot. Closest I've come is the werehog stuff in Sonic Unleashed, and really for the genre there's not much middle ground between M-rated stuff and that. You'd think someone would try to fill that niche. =3=

Oh yeah, that's worrying. Hopefully some of that gets fixed, but even if it doesn't, it's not like I, personally, have a choice in systems. Maybe I'll wait a bit before I preorder or anything. I'm also gonna make sure Dark Void is decent before I think about getting that one, too. From the looks of things, though, they have the jetpack stuff down pretty well, but I'm wondering about the ground combat. I guess if that's decent enough, it shouldn't be an issue since it's a damn jetpack game.
Zaron_old
Bayonnetta is just out there enough to hold my curiosity, but I hadn't heard anything about PS3 issues...

I'm also in the "no choice in systems" scenario. A high-end laptop not even two years old can't run a thing even at minimum specs now. I know two years isn't much for a computer, but dang. Minimum specs? Really?everything needs a 2.4 processor and I've a 2.0. Sad panda.

So for me nine times out of ten it's PS3 or nothing. .-.

Actually saw the Sith Star Wars pack in a store yesterday, but lucky me it was not priced. So I don't know if it costs more than the 35 dollar edition or not.

I do believe it's 40. I know Wal-Mart presently has any remaining non-Sith editions priced at 20 because... I don't think I even need to say why I know these things anymore. XD

Just got/beat the Borderlands zombie DLC stuff. That's probably the best DLC I've gotten for any game so far. It's fucking hilarious and doesn't take itself all that seriously. Decent amount of content, too, I guess. Lots of...you know, zombies. I dunno. I don't have much bad stuff to say about it. It was laggy occasionally, but I kinda played it in one sitting and games tend to do that. Also, there were a lot of big groups of zombies, too. Wouldn't normally cause much slowdown, but sometimes it did.

Why would I get rid of a PS2 if I had one, without being able to use your memory cards I would keep a PS2 if I had one, I still think it's kinda bullshit to get rid of the backwards compatibility. Also, this is just a question about the Slim, but does it even read DVD's, or just blu-ray?(You know, for DVD movies) If it's the former, that's more bullshit for lack of backwards compatibility.

A lot of people get rid of their PS2 after getting a PS3, then get frustrated that the PS3 they own doesn't have backwards capability. Shoulda kept the PS2 to begin with. Either way, I watch most of my movies on the computer. =p Of course I do mean DVDs. If the slim doesn't have the backwards capabilities you want, then don't get it. If it's unimportant, go ahead and get it. Otherwise it's not that big of a deal since there are other ways to play them PS2 games/watch them DVDs.
At least that's my opinion.

I don't like the Slim cause the cool touchpad buttons with actual buttons. Also, it just looks kinda lame. It got rid of a bunch of ports and stuff, too, and you can't change the OS on it and things like that. I was about to say it's a slimmed down version, but I guess that's the point.

Ha ha. I still only have about... 6 trophies. Will probably get more if I actually played the PS3 more often, but at the same time I'm also too lazy to care. X_x

As far as I understand it, any Blu-Ray player is backwards-compatible with DVDs. if there's some that aren't, congratulations, they win the impractically stupid device award, courtesy of moi! Also, there's been more than a few rumors going about about plans to bring emulated PS2 compatability to the PS3 now, giving it download games much as they do with PSX. I'd be both surprised and incredibly peeved if this didn't stretch to reading the games off disc as well, since it would give me an excuse to play some PS2 games I own but haven't touched yet due largely to "I got a PS3 durt durt durt collect dust, older model!" Iunno, like mah shiny toys, I guess.

I borrowed inFAMOUS from a friend. I adored the Sly Cooper games but am still finding myself pretty glad I didn't buy this... Now that I have most of the powers it's a lot less aggravating, but when you're just starting out the game pretty much blows. That and I've died while punching a garbage can, and since nobody could tell where the bullets were coming from once anyone in the room at the time has since declared that God hates Cole and killed him. It's rare a death on that game feels particularly justified so much as a crapshoot working against you, and I'm never a big fan of that.

Also I pulled out the ol' Genesis collection again. PHANTASY STAR THE FIRST, WEEEEEEE! Actually, no, it and LBP are good for multiplayer and I've actually needed a shred of that lately. o3o
awp
Genesis collection is only 25 dollars now. Teeeempting.

Hm... Thinking if I should get that. Still not sure. Ratchet and Clank is taking priority right now on that decision.

I'm curious as to why there is less CoD discussion in this thread. It's overrated and everything but I just picked it up, (if you can't beat em--) and it's decent. I needed something to fill my Halo void when I switched back to sony. Anybody have mw2?
awp
If I did, I'd definitely have it on PC

CoD, *scoff*

btw Rolled: I cleared Everlong on Expert Drums <3

Certainly better than what I can do. I can only clear Hello There on Expert Drums. /fail
Also, CoD isn't my type of game. Not much of a FPS guy. TF2 and L4D(and maybe Half Life) are the first ones to catch my eye since Goldeneye and Turok on the N64.

I'm guessing there's no discussion of MW2 because no one who frequents this thread actually has that game. I have been noticing that you've been playing it a lot though, Rolled. Like, damn. And it's always MP. Have you beaten single player?
Zaron_old
L4D is an interesting concept, and TF2 looks fun, but from my experience with the typical FPS crowd I'd rather avoid anything multipayer dependent lest your own team mates yell at you a lot because you're not some golden god at it like everyone else seems to be.

Thus, Portal and Bioshock. Solo affairs, and fairly inviting to someone who hasn't ever beaten an FPS without cheating until they brought the Big Daddies along...

I beat Bioshock without cheating. Hurrrrr. -feels slighty more competent in a genre he's typically found impenetrable-
awp
TF2 is more like a laid back stoner than a vulgar Halo-type drunken frat boy - from my (and I'm assuming most other people's) experiences people in TF2 are more there for the fun of it. I'm pretty inept when it comes to the strategy and know-where-to-go part of online FPSs but I was never met with contempt or disapproval.

Course that was years ago, when TF2 was brand spankin' new.

People get mad when playing videos games.

TF2 is just good because it seems to alleviate the standard FPS rage most FPS games seem to garner and usually the few select angry players you know are just generally angry people.

I recently got Borderlands from gamefly, the game is freaking awesome, the only complaint I have is that in split screen, the menus aren't made smaller, use just have to pan them with the right stick, but I got used to it. I haven't tried playing online though, I don't have a good headset and I can't see it happening without being able to talk to the others. But it's fun with my brother, even if we die all the time.

Online is kind of annoying because unless the host has the best damn internet ever or something, there's gonna be anywhere from a small to large amount of delay between your controller commands and the actual movement onscreen. Split screen is fun though. Solo's my favorite, although there are times where it's like, "If only I had a partner right now".

lag was less a problem for me than framerate was, since lol 4.5 year old machine

no

Also awp I'm getting my Ions on Friday 8-)
awp
I might be getting cymbals and a second pedal once I have a job, but I'm going to skip over the ions and get a real drum set once I have the coin.

But man I really want to gold-star Iron Maiden (Live) - it's so fuckin' fun, but those double-kicks are just murder.

BAYO. NETTA. DEMO.

YES!

By the way, I always forget to mention that Brad from 4 Player Podcast totally reminds me of Rolled and/or vice versa. So I keep thinking Rolled is crazy about Bayonetta, but that's Brad.

Edit: DAMN! Bayonetta is really freakin' sweet!
