Tablet Settings
These are my tablet's settings. 0.95 x 0.6 = 0.57 sq inches. My skill hasn't reach yet the limits of the tablet and it still feels really responsive and smooth. And it's just a Trust Mini Tablet, which costs around 20€, not an expensive Wacom tablet.

Of course, I'm still far from being a top Osu! player (actually I consider myself a newbie), but since I've bought my tablet 2 months ago (when I've hit a brick wall playing with a mouse around rank #12000) I'm using these settings and I'm now at rank ~#2000 and the tablet still keeps up with my speed, while I'm still improving day by day in a noticeable pace.

Anyway, I don't know if a Wacom tablet makes a difference at top ranks, but until now I haven't felt the need for a better tablet. And I still can increase my active area if I experience any problems with the tablet's accuracy. So, my opinion thus far is that lpi doesn't matter for Osu!, even while using a small active area.

Just my 2c.

That was only in reference to wacom tablets specifically, It has no meaning on non wacom products.

My point was that lpi doesn't matter for Osu! regardless the tablet (from my experience). Maybe I didn't express myself correctly, but I wasn't trying to disagree with you. I just quoted you as a prologue to what I wanted to say.

I've used different kinds of Wacom tablets and I can tell you that most tablets will function pretty much the same in osu! and you shouldn't worry about it. The only palpable differences would be the tablet's size, dimensions, and durability, all of which you can get used to or touch up in the tablet's properties tab. Other than that (i.e. buttons, pressure features, different kinds of nibs) shouldn't affect you unless you use Wacom products for digital art.

If you buy the ps3 version, you can install drivers that allow you to use it as a mouse on PC. (here http://brandonw.net/udraw/ ) It works perfectly, and though I am shit tier at osu, [ Depression ] was able to use it as well (roommates) and was able to do well with it. Of course we each have wacom tablets, which are obviously better than this cheap tablet.

Oh yea, its $12.

Worth it if you've ever wanted to try out a tablet.

If I buy the Bamboo mte-450, will there be much of a difference to the CTL-470?
Also, if I buy a pen made for the CTL-470 (GEN 3) will it also work for the mte-450 (GEN 1)?

They have quite a bit of input lag, so I don't know how viable it is. Maybe if you set the universal offset just right.

Just because its not Wacom doesn't mean its shit and worthless. Just get used to it for now yeah.

I also found the bamboo capture for 85$, the splash I can get for 61$ with tax, is the capture worth the extra 24$ or are they basically the same?

The only advantage that tablets have for Osu! Is that they feature absolute tracking, in higher end tablets they may be more accurate in terms of pressure etc. which is useful for art applications but useless for Osu!...

Bamboo Splash would be a good choice, it has everything you need, and all the features that are useful for Osu! gameplay without the cost of the higher end models.

Good hover distance
Area change on tablet (on my tablet I have to change my screens resolution, which is annoying)
No latency issues.

I live in europe, and I cant buy the Splash or other products that were in OP's topic,

So my question is :

Is the Bamboo Pen and Touch as good as the 99 dollar equivalent Bamboo or is it totally different?
Also what is the difference between the Pen and touch and the Fun S pen and touch?

I purchased a 'Bamboo Pen' tablet yesterday. I hope it arrives soon!

It arrived! but I'm currently staying at my boyfriend's, so I won't be able to try it out until Saturday. I can post what I think about the tablet then if anyone is interested in buying that model.

I've been using my tablet for a couple of days now and it hasn't exactly been a pleasant experience, I find it very difficult to get used to (which is understandable) and I've been noticing the cursor gets jittery when the pen nib comes into light or quick contact with the tablet. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.

I just recent;y purchased a Bamboo Pen & Touch 3rd Gen (I think it's a Connect).

It is my first time using something like this so bear with me... I'm not certain whether i should be hovering over the touchpad when playing a map or dragging with the pen and what is the ideal playing area on the touchpad.

Any experienced users with time to help out will be much appreciated thanks

Hover, it might feel weird for a bit but it is very worth it. Allows you to move faster and puts less wear and tear on your tablet/pen nibs.

I guess you have a point, just the fact that using a pen from using a mouse is a massive step got to have wrist movements and i've always had problems holding pens weirdly as a child

Just a few games using it is tough to get used, i guess practice makes perfect!

A little ambitious for the same 10 year old tablet in a new wrapper :P

They'll push another one out when they find a decent whistle & bell to bolt onto it. It was mostly about wireless this time around.

Does anyone write with their left hand but use their mouse with the right? Or vice-versa. Because I do, and I'm unsure of whether to get a tablet. My rhythm sucks with my right hand, so pressing Z/X is going to be difficult if I have to use the stylus with my left hand. For those that have a different mouse-hand to their pen-hand, which hand do you use your tablet stylus with?

Sorry if that's confusing, I don't think I can word it any better.

I'm a lefty who uses my right for the mouse, and I got a tablet in March. My left hand is still faster with Z/X than my right hand is with Num1/Num2, but I've made considerable improvement in the past few months. I have my mouse DPI at exactly double my tablet area, and as of right now my accuracy on both are about equal (but the tablet is a bit more consistent). I researched and got a zero-acceleration mouse so the difference between them aren't as big (aside from the feel), but assuming you have a more basic mouse or a laser mouse, you'll notice a big boost in accuracy with the tablet once you get used to it.

The "Touch" feature is multitouch with your fingers. Since you'll be using the pen when playing osu!, it won't matter. (My Bamboo Capture is a Pen&Touch tablet, and TBH I've disabled the multitouch feature because I never use it).

I play CTB quite often, but never played osu!standard, really. This month I played a little of it, but I hate playing it with the mice/mouse, and I love playing in my cousin's android tablet... So, thanks for the guide, looking forward about buying one.

Anyone use the buttons on their tablet??? Just wondering because my Bamboo Fun has 4 nice buttons on it, and I figured they might be better than wearing out my keyboard (plus I can control everything from my lap.)

My Bamboo Capture has buttons, but they're fairly stiff and have no travel distance. Assuming the Bamboo Fun has the same type of clicky buttons as mine, IMO it wouldn't be a viable choice. Your fingers would get more tired in comparison to just using a keyboard.

Oh, and if you have the money, go for a mechanical keyboard. It'll last longer than a normal keyboard, and it'll benefit your playing/typing. If that takes up too much space, you could try a Razer Orbweaver mechanical keypad (I'd recommend the Stealth Edition if you're looking into getting that, since it uses lighter keyswitches than the standard edition).

Could anyone possibly clarify the differences between Wacom Bamboo models? I see CTH-470, CTH-470s, CTL-470 being thrown around mainly, but on Amazon.co.uk there are plenty more than that, some being very much cheaper than others.

Is Wacom Bamboo Pen Graphics Tablet (the Connect?) a common tablet choice, or are the differently coloured ones with buttons (which seem to be the Pen & Touch series)?

From some more research, I've come to the conclusion that the CTL-470 is a pen-only tablet, while CTH-470 includes touch input also. What about the 's' and 'k' prefixes - what do they indicate?

Got a Bamboo Pen and Touch off ebay for $30, hardly used. I'm a happy camper. CTL-460. They're good for osu right?

Now if I can figure out how to play well with it without my wrist shaking.

What I'm saying is that the -K is a marketing tag and the -EN is a country tag. There's no difference between the tablets, just in the included software.

i love drawing and playing osu i gone buy an intuos3 but which one? there is an a4, a5, and an a6 which one is the best for osu aswell as drawing?

Full area on a Bamboo tablet is 5.8" x 3.6" (147mm x 92mm), but since you'll be buying a bigger tablet you'll have more flexibility with your area. You'll want to play around with it and find an area that is comfortable for you.

Just ordered a Capture tablet yesterday. Wouldn't a pen mouse be a decent substitute though, assuming it's accurate enough that the tablet's absolute tracking wouldn't be an advantage?

'sup. I'm planning to buy a tablet not only for osu!(although that's a big reason), but also for making sprites for my games(C++ and SFML FTW). And because of this, I don't think the small screen size of the Bamboo Pen will be big enough (although I've never used a graphics tablet, so I can't say). So, I found an alternative here.
I've read a couple of reviews of it and they all seemed pretty positive(the only drawback being the pen, which feels cheap and uses batteries, which most likely won't bug me too much). But how would it perform in Osu!? Some people told me non-Wacom teblets aren't great for Osu! and have too long delays. But, this Monoprice does just about everything better than the Bamboo Pen, for the same price.


If anyone has the Monoprice, I'd gladly want to hear how it performs in Osu!.

Types of Tablets

Wacom is the "brand name" of tablets - tablets are all they make, and they're widely accepted (by artists) as producing the best quality, most reliable tablets. I recommend buying from Wacom because of their reputation as producing high-quality products as a leader in the tablet world. They produce three main lines:

Cintiq - "Draw directly on the screen" tablets, these are used in very high-end professional applications, and cost a pretty penny.
Intuos - The Professional line of tablets, these have features above and beyond the Bamboo line, but lack a screen.
Bamboo - The general consumer line of tablets, these come cheap with all the features you need to get started as a hobbyist.

There are other lines, such as the Graphire or Volito tablets, but these names have been discontinued, replaced by the above lines.

For osu!, you are very unlikely to need a Cintiq or Intuos - these two lines cater to professional in graphic design and illustration, and cost much more than the tablets in the Bamboo line. They feature increased pressure sensitivity, more bundled graphics software, and advanced features such as barrel rotation or tilt sensitivity. These mean nothing in osu!, so only buy one of these if you're planning on using your tablet for serious graphic design work outside of osu!.

At the time of writing there are three versions of the Bamboo, all confusingly under the same "Bamboo" moniker (The Intuos lines are distinguished by number - Intuos5 is the latest at the time of writing). I would recommend either buying the second or third generation Bamboos - the first generation Bamboo tablets had the extra buttons on the top of the tablet rather than the side, which makes them awkward for use in osu!.

That's not true at all. The game gives absolutely no bonus for using a tablet, nor does it even have a way of detecting what pointing device you're using.

Hey! Thanks a lot for the post, I wanted to buy a tablet for osu! for a while but didn't have a clue where to start, this makes things a lot easier. :)

I do have a question though, as I'm fairly confused. You mentioned in your guide that "Pen", "Fun" and "Craft" are 2nd Gen tablets while "Connect", "Capture" and "Create" are 3rd Gen. And from what I understand from the posts here, 3rd Gen has better specifications than 2nd Gen. Now, I was doing some research through means other than this post, and Wacom's Wikipedia page doesn't mention anything about Generations. From what I understand, it says over there that "Create", "Capture", "Splash" and "Connect" are just the names the tablets are sold under in the Americas and "Fun", "Pen & Touch", "Pen" and "Manga" are the names they're sold under in the European region.

Touch = Capture
Pen & Touch = Create

they do sell both generation models at both regions, they just call it by different names. well, let's just say that Wikipedia doesn't have enough information about Wacom.

i got a Wacom Bamboo ctl-470 for like 40$. i think it works great and i would recommend it to anyone looking for a bit "cheaper" tablet ^^

Yeah, I think the OP needs a bit of an update, seeing as the new Intuos is replacing the Bamboo lineup (while the Intuos Pro replaces the old Intuos lineup).

Hey Guys,
Im relativly new to the Game and can play most songs on Hard.
Im playing with a Mouse and would like to know if a Tablet would be worth it to get into the faster songs.

Im not sure if the Money would be worth it tough, since i dont know if and how much i would improve with it.

Here is the Tablet i was looking at... its pretty cheap... would it do the trick for OSU?

I'm sure it will.
I have a SilverCrest (very cheap) Tablet from a discounter and it worked (just fine).
However it had no "scaling" and i would have to go all over the big workspace all the time to reach the points, also it sometimes just stops working until i touch the tablet with the pen.
So i just bought a Intuos Pen Small now to get rid of the problems and have fun with high quality.
There was a comment on Amazon for it (in german) stating that it works great with osu.
A friend bought it also, so if you want i can tell you how it works in a few days.
But i'm sure it will work perfectly :)

Can I ask something? If I buy the one that is pen and touch (Wacom Bamboo ) is it will affect the cursor like for example : warping cursor problem when the fingers touch because i see some of my friends use them and sometimes they hit the tablet and the mouse is getting move to the way that they don't like.
But I am planning to buy for drawing and playing osu! so i can't decide what should I buy.
Can anyone pls answer me what should I buy.

I have a Bamboo Pen and Touch. You can disable the touch feature.

The Capture comes with the Autodesk SketchBook Express, Adobe Photoshop Elements and Nik Color Filters softwares bundled with it. It also has 4 programmable buttons on the tablet itself that you can customize, and has a multi-touch function (you can use fingers - pinch to zoom, scroll, etc).

The Splash is about 20$ cheaper, comes with the Autodesk SketchBook Express and ArtRage 3 Studio bundled.

Both tablets are otherwise completely similar, the active area, pressure sensitivity and accuracy are all exactly the same as well.
So, basically the 20$ difference would be the 4 programmable buttons and the multi-touch function and the Photoshop Elements. There's also some minor aesthetic and color differences as well.
Now, to answer your question, if you're planning to use the tablet solely for osu!, the additional buttons and touch functions are just a hindrance and going for the Capture would be pointless. If you're actually seriously considering to use it for other purposes as well, the additional buttons help a little with laziness as you can assign functions to them in Photoshop or other programs instead of manually clicking and selecting tools, but are still otherwise pretty much entirely pointless. The touch function doesn't have a whole lot of uses as well. So, in my opinion I think the Splash is better all around since Capture doesn't really offer anything additional that's a whole lot worthwhile.

Monoprice 10x6.25in Tablet user checking in.
The tablet and pen works fine for everything I need, but the alternate Monoprice pen (which is around $10) has a larger detection range (I can lift the pen farther away from the tablet and it will still track movement; >1cm as opposed to the default's ~0.7cm). However, the default pen's tip is easier to activate; I can rest it at a generous angle on the tablet and it will detect that minute pressure. The alternate pen is more rigid and needs to stand more vertically and needs more force to detect pressure.

The large surface of the tablet fatigues my arm more than a smaller one would while I play osu!, but I personally like the almost 1:1 ratio of pen to cursor movement.

The tablet costed me around $70 in total, $60+$5 shipping + tax. The alternate pen costs $10 dollars itself.

Yeah, it should be fine for osu!. For art, you should probably get the Intuos Pen and Touch since it has an eraser on its pen.
But at this point, the Intuos tablets are the ones you should consider the most (unless you can get your hands on an older Wacom tablet for a lower price, but usually those don't have pens with erasers).

Everyone who is wondering if the Intuos Pen Small (the new bamboo) is good for Osu!: Yes it is.
I'm using it since a couple of weeks now and i'm really happy with it (just like a friend of mine).
The accuracy is outstanding and the settings are highly configurable to fit your needs (like the tablet area you want to use).
If you have a look in the thread "area of your bamboo tablet" you'll see some others using it too ;)
So you don't have to fear that it could not be as good as a bamboo.

Intuos Manga = Intuos Pen&Touch with included Manga Studio Debut + Anime Studio Debut software

If that's the only one you have access to, go for it. If not, look for a cheaper Wacom tablet.

Thread definitely needs an update, especially with the announcement of the Osu! tablet. There are also some cheaper ones on Amazon (VPad) that I'm wondering if anybody has tried.
