If we were to take a more serious look at it though, what would make a good candidate? Human? Animal? Some kind of unique, non-descript alien species? Male? Female? Should we ballpark this before narrowing down to specific ideas?
Also shouldn't drawings help ideas out a lot? A drawing is a description damn it >=|

I think we should try to agree on what the mascot should look like before starting to make concept art. Sure, if you don't have anything else to do, a drawing is OK, but it's easier to chuck out good ideas, rather than good pictures.awp wrote:

The anime-girl-style mascot could easily have a face modeled after Peppy's avatar.
Something else just crossed my mind. Are we having a mascot? Or would it be a trio, akin to osu!'s forefathers, EBA/Ouendan? One (the 'leader'?) being your typical attractive young anime girl, the other two being...other uniquely-designed encouragers?
While it would work great for the aforementioned proposed 'leader', I don't think pink would look very appropriate for men. And that's basically osu!'s colour. If we were to, say, take from the game's main menu...still very bright and lively (aka gay, thinking wardrobe-specific) colours.

I'm just trying to think of a reason why we'd need a mascot(s) when the osu! logo is already indentifiable and fits in just about anywhere, which is what a mascot is meant for. Why would the support dancers be male? Just wondering. Actually, I don't have a problem with it. Just wonder what the logic was.

-I figure most musicians are male (based on experience, I did not go looking for statistics to back up this hypothesis because I don't care), however there is a large number of female vocalists, and the vocalist is often seen as the "leader" or "frontman" of a band.

I actually think the robot idea sounds pretty good. It wouldn't really be that original, but I haven't seen many games with dancing robots, either.
On second thought, the anime girl thing might be a good idea, because the game is pretty much influenced by Ouendan, which is like... a stereotypical Japanese game, I guess. It's not my style, but it fits the style of the game.

I still don't see why Loginer doesn't just post the Osu logo on one of the chan boards and have them magically turn it into a loli like they always do.
He probably hasn't because he realizes that if you throw that onto a chan board for them to do as they like, we'll end up with way more trolls than we do now, and more than likely no usable results.

Back to Sinistro about the whole "we're not being very original" thing, that's true in its entirety, but on the flip-side, it's a pop-sensation sort of premise. How many original ideas exist in rhythm games these days? Well, there's the Taiko mascot, but nothing else really comes to mind. Samba de Amigo's monkey? A clever yet subtle racial stab.
The premise is likely going to lack originality no matter what we do. I think the creativity is in the design, and hopefully we can come up with something beyond standard in the way of character design, like perhaps why this character's cheers are able to accomplish some sort of objective. Why, or How.
I'd think some kind of outfit that channels rhythm into a form of energy or karma which can then be passed on to those in need of help.

I think the hair shouldn't be pinned up in any such way (as that gives a more formal impression and a less spirited/lively/outgoing feel) but perhaps it could do to be longer.
The name is just a femininization of "peppy" that popped into my head while I was at work. If you like it, take it, if not, who cares. Not too attached to it.
Anyway, at least this is a start for the meeting tomorrow =\

We could have two mascots, the Osu! logo (with a top hat if people really want it) for the male mascot and the anime girl as the female mascot. Why settle for one when you can go for two?

My friend drew my old roleplaying char and made this kick ass avatar, it'd be a good idea for him to be one of the encourgers. Or mascot, I don't really care...
