Not that velper and other spanish-speaking people are bad, but sometimes their chat messages start to hinder my vision.
As for /back, if it is gonna be added, it should cost more than $5.

It shouldn't cost anything.

so i tried tp'ing to my blaze farm and this is result.
what.

Well bish, We all die but we all lose are stuff that's valuable, I'm sorry you don't want /back, but lots of people do.
I lost a diamond sword, 2 diamond picks (I took 2 because 1 was wearing out), what I mined out including 2 diamonds, all my steak, and probably some other important-ish stuff in that incident. I still stand by the quote below.

make it cost $100 and problem solved

$100 might seem too much. I think $50 sounds reasonable.
Jinxy

VelperK wrote:

Should be even more, like 200-500 so that people can't use it every time they die. They have to consider if what they lost was really that valuable to them that they are willing to spend that much, instead of "herpderp I died due to my own negligence let me just spend a little money to get my stuff back every time"
VelperK
okay then, make it $300

(im such a negotiator)

in lieu of my somewhat extended absence from administering the server (will continue until the current university semester is over), i am appointing whymeman as a temporary administrator to deal with the griefing issues that are happening as of late

Hello everyone! I have a problem with Osucraft server. I have this issue about 2 weeks ago. When i try to login with my account, the next message shows up: http://puu.sh/1c7wR
As you can see the account is already linked, and i still can't log in.

P.D.: The issue is not in my pc, already tried in another pc and still doesn't work.

The bug seems to happen only when you are holding a placeable block like dirt, stone etc. You could try holding a tool or nothing before you click, but no promises.

I actually decided to just try buying anyway and it worked just fine.
it might be the problem of what you are holding, but i don't remember what i was holding...

Does anyone need a ridiculous amount of wooden doors?

If so, just go the the front of Valhalla castle!

All the doors you'll ever need!

jesus christ someone take them all aaa

EDIT: It's ok now, the doors have found a new home with whyme and Mara

I will NOT get in this server again without a /back command. The game just makes you feel worse about yourself by making you think: "I'm such a stupid asshole, how the heck did I just die like THAT, it can't be real."

bye then

Or you could think about how or why you died, and make sure you don't repeat the same mistake. People make mistakes, what's important is you learn from them instead of pussying out and then making yourself feel worse about yourself

90% of all deaths in mc are avoidable. As for the last 10%, chances are that lava was involved so no way you can get your stuff back then.

I think $500 sounds reasonable. (Ignore whatever I said earlier in this thread.)

One more way to avoid losing all your stuff: be quick in typing /t spawn

and please add/fix /tc or /chat local or whatever. All the Spanish chat messages are hindering my vision in-game.

Except that in minecraft you don't usually learn a thing when you commit a fatal mistake since it's so utterly stupid that you weren't even paying attention.
Example: Dying because you felt down 10 blocks and didn't see the missing floor chunk that made you lose all your stuff, plus frustrating you as hell and ragequitting. That's not fun at all for me. I don't like this server lacking of the /back functionality, people wanna have fun, not frustration because they died in the stupidest way possible in earth.
Jinxy
Wait, so did you jump 10 blocks down into the void, or did you walk into a chunk that wasn't loaded and fell?

Also, did you actually try to get back to the death spot by 5 mins
MillhioreF
$100 sounds fair for /back, it's so pricey that most people will hesitate to use it but still worth reclaiming all your stuff.

Uh, no and no. And it wasn't my case, it was just to name one silly example. You can be focused on fighting some mobs here and there or you just were running without attention to the ground and suddenly fall in a trap for example. I'm pretty sure the game isn't about watching your step every second of your gameplay, that isn't enjoyable at all and that's also the reason the command "/back" was created.

Other example: you were mining in an abandoned mineshaft and you fall into the oblivion because of some missing chunk again. This is pretty much the most common case of stupid deaths.

Those are the most common instances in which you can die in a stupid way and not learn anything about it, of course there are a lot of other ones but they're linked to the context.

1. Not every second of the gameplay, just the ones where you're in a dangerous situation, and you should probably think: "this is dangerous, I should watch my step", not run around without paying attention. I don't take the same attitude going through a cave compared to say, running through Valhalla. One is unexplored and potentially dangerous, the other is a mob-disabled town. In real life, you'd be more careful if you were overseas for the first time as compared to being in your home.

VelperK wrote:

Other example: you were mining in an abandoned mineshaft and you fall into the oblivion because of some missing chunk again. This is pretty much the most common case of stupid deaths.
2. Not only is this stupid and avoidable by noticing there is a large 16x16 gaping hole in your way, I also do not see how /back would help when your items have fallen into the void. Unless you meant "oblivion" as "a deep fall into another cave", in which case, I still think a hole in the ground is pretty damn obvious and you should look out for those while explorong a dangerous area.

In conclusion: Stupid deaths are easily avoidable if you pay attention when you are in a situation where it's supposed to be dangerous. For bugged deaths like a Nether portal spawning above lava and not making a safe zone (happened to me once) or falling into the void, your items are already lost so /back wouldn't help.

EDIT: By the way, is it possible to name outposts so we can do stuff like /town outpost <name> instead of using a number? Numbers are kinda annoying because they also change when old outposts are removed.
If we can, can CURRENT outposts be renamed?

dat smarty attitude.

why is /back so hated by you, what's your problem? it's not your deal if ppl use it or not and won't affect you having fun or not so yeah, u remind me of social conservative ppl.
Cyclohexane
You know who else hated the /back command?

HITLER!
Jinxy
It removes the risk of caving and entire survival aspect of playing, well, survival if people could just teleport back when they died. I wouldn't be so opposed to it if there was just one example where a death was not caused by negligence and inattentiveness, like a glitch, but usually those involve lava or the void, like what you said with "falling into oblivion". I don't understand how /back would help in those examples, since the items are already gone and you'll just /back yourself into lava or something.
VelperK
Well you still loose your level with /back so it doesn't "removes the risk of caving and entire survival aspect of playing".
Corin
The /back command now costs 500pp of your primary game mode.
Jinxy
Levels are easy to earn back and aren't a good enough penalty imo, but I can't be bothered to argue any more. If Eph agrees then be it. I just want it to be really expensive ($500 or so) so people will still pay attention while caving instead of thinking they can do dumb crap and not lose their stuff. Too bad I never got that single example where a death was not caused by mistakes but /back was still applicable.

Sakura wrote:

4. Profit!
Add "Don't dig straight up" and "Block off multiple cave branches to avoid ambushes" and you have just successfully prevented most deaths

EDIT: 500pp is fine too, I like that

Corin wrote:

i lol'd so hard

but srsly i think $300 is the most suitable price for all, since it's not that usual to have THAT much of money with you.

Oh god
OnosakiHito
It's not? Then I'm doing something wrong. lol
whymeman
Honestly speaking, deaths should be a learning experience in the server, not something to cry over to get corrected. If that was the case, then it would make "survival mode" pointless and just reduce your survival IQ with the increase of carelessness. If you're in dangerous territory such as a mineshaft with cave spiders or on a narrow path on a top of a mountain fighting spiders and creepers, then it would be wise to rethink a new plan or retreat to prevent a loss. If you still fail to learn repeating certain mistakes, then there's nothing else I will say about it at that point.

Also.... if you STILL want the /back function, then just prepare to be taxed heavy on it.
kwakkevin

Corin wrote:

+1 diamond for u
i think, if it is going to be added, /back should cost a lot, like $300-500. Then I have no objection.

whymeman
One more thing i'd like to add.....

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE YOUR MINECRAFT ACCOUNTS TO OTHER PEOPLE!

If you're done with playing on the server, then just don't play it anymore. Even if you don't play, giving the account to someone else can have you liable for any damages done.
Sakura
I have a feeling Velperk wouldn't survive more than 3 minutes on Dark Souls.

Remember your MC accounts are tied with your osu! accounts and a ban on minecraft might lead to a ban on osu! so it's under your own discretion.
Azure_Kite
I'd say threatening a ban on osu! based on what someone does in Minecraft is probably going a bit too far. Towny was installed to protect settlements for a reason.
Jinxy
No grief prevention/protection plugin is infallible, and there are still ways to grief, especially outside settlements, just no one has done it. If you do grief and get caught, an osu ban isn't going to far, since this is kind of part of the osu community.
Azure_Kite
By that logic, people that shell a specific person constantly on our Mario Kart sessions could be banned too.

Getting the "Failed to verify username" message upon server joining. This just happened after a server restart though I suspect the server just randomly went down after. Waiting to see if any Tweets pop up though.

Edit: redoing verification didn't fix anything.
Jinxy
I'm getting "Can't connect to minecraft.net" at the login screen instead

EDIT: Oh, I get it now. The official minecraft log in servers aren't down, but mineshafter is. Using the mineshafter proxy, I can't even log in, but with normal minecraft, I can get in but be unable to verify username.

I doubt it was accidental. I'll look into it myself and see what's up.
Jinxy
Nope, 120% accidental. I saw it with my own eyes, but the guy couldn't fix it because I made a mistake in the outposts while building the farm and he'd basically die every time he tried to fix it

Well, what each town mostly does is either claim a village for themselves via outpost, or buy villager spawn eggs at the trading post.

I DONT KNOW LOL. i had a general idea of what I wanted to make, but i never made a real complete sketch of exactly where each block goes and stuff, and i'm just following an outline. Some things happened and I had some few changes in plans and etc. i'm just making stuff on the spot lol.

I assume the server will not be updated to 1.4 until all mods are updated too, right?

It would be nice to add a server message or something to inform people not to update their clients when 1.4 comes.

Most plugins will require a rewrite or revise due to MineAPI and Bukkit being slowly phased out, so yes.
Most things like Towny and Essentials will be on time and ready with devbuilds but things like PEx will die so yeah.
whymeman
So it's best to hold back from updating till it's safe to i'd assume? Or is there some form of backwards compatibility for users already with 1.4.2?

Actually, we'll still be using around 1.3.2 till the patch work and such is done for bukkit as said here.

http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/when-w ... ed.107128/

Better to have a stable older build than a new updated nightmare for the time being.
Sakura
How do i backup my current build? since i would still like to play at least single player with the update (i dont use any mods in single player anyways)
winber1
so how do i reverse my update LOL.

forgot that about the fact that the minecraft server is still in 1.3
force of instinct to just update any program.
Jinxy
Try finding a jar on the forums or something, I guess

I can also get it onto mediafire, gimme 5 mins

EDIT: http://puu.sh/1iW9b because mediafire blocked it

I think that's my 1.3 backup. I have so many jar files of different mods I'm losing track

Put this jar file into the .minecraft/bin folder, replacing the old(new?) jar.
whymeman
Warning: Do not update to 1.4.2 before the server is updated. This will disable the connection to the osu!craft server.

If you choose to update anyways, do so at your own risk at this time.
Flanster
If you plan to update go to your AppData/.minecraft/bin and backup your minecraft.jar and then update.
If you wanna go back to 1.3 just use your backup and remove the 1.4 version of that jar file.

This is getting a bit out of hand as far as I see. Especially from one who started the mess in the first place.

I'll have to check with Eph since the server is not co-operating with me....

Fixed. Now here's the deal....

I'm already on my last ounce of patience dealing with incidents from the DarkAges town. I don't see anything funny shoving an outpost right up a town's behind that it can't properly expand its territory. So far, i've seen these towns victims of this kind of grieving act.

Waffle
Traversal
Gecko

I had to personally remove the outposts myself to get this fixed which is also not cool. I even removed the outposts near DarkAges for those that were also victims of their destructive behavior in terms of equal distance spacing sorting this matter out. But, in the process of doing so, ANY outposts that belongs to DarkAges that is close to a near by town was also removed as well.

If I hear one more incident coming from that town, I won't even care who it is, the whole town will nuked off the server along with server banning. I won't put up with it anymore with this attempt to start a war with other towns.

Are we waiting for a 1.4.2 Recommended Build for Bukkit before updating the server or is there other reasons? The current Beta seems to be stable-ish according to the forums, and no Recommended is likely to come out due to 1.4.4 already under way.

EDIT: Except for a "bad packet id" bug in the Beta, which can be prevented with regular server restarts.

Hmm..... I could ask Eph about it and see what he says. If the build is proven to be stable enough then he'll look into updating.
