Nah, the best way to do group assignments is to team up with your friend who shares your skill and enthusiasm.
Then do nothing but take coffee breaks for the entire week you have to do the assignment, and do it better than everyone else an hour before the deadline.
I did this once back in college ! Assignment was to model, rig, and animate an excavator in 3D. Dunno why they'd give us a week for something so simple, tbh.
