Seems like another way people could abuse to "talk" when being silenced, no support.
Edit: Unless you can only choose from a list of status.

I often really wonder about this when seeing people listed in F9
disable the feature for silenced ppl then , and make the list of choices of what status to put in a CHOOSEABLE LIST manually and not actually manually typing it downSakura wrote:

Especially warmups would be a nice status. I am tired of crying in #spec about how bad I currently play.
No, for the same reasons that bancho doesnt PM you when a moderator silences you.Phenomz- wrote:

yes but still many players can be half afk move their mouse once to see somthing and still be afk or busy, or ppl will not know if som1 is doing warmups or playing for real ( wich usually 99% of the players play really bad when their not warmed up , this can be usefull to avoid many incoming PM,s to players wich are not needed with this tiny little feature :3, or som1 thats half afk moving the mouse somtimes and som1 typing to him and not getting responds wich can be quite annoying, ... its a very simple feature wich can help alot in several ways, aswell in overview but also in status, besides the osu standard status system cannot show if som1 is busy while not beeing afk or warmupsSakura wrote:
Still tho, dont you have the statuses: "Idle" "Playing" "Watching" "Editing" "Modding" "Afk" "Submitting" already?
by the way, I'd like to know those "reasons", what's wrong to know when you're silenced? You still taking alone like a retard, why can't bancho tell you when someone silenced you... you still can't talk but you KNOW that you can't.Sakura wrote:

You also got the /away command.
with /away, you actually have to send a message for it to appear. With this you'll know beforehand.Sakura wrote:

i'd rather the /away message since you can put more detail into it.Saten wrote:

I stand on this. I don't want osu! becoming more of a social community with "what's your mood like", "what's your status nobody gives a shit about".Sakura wrote:
Also remember that osu! is a rythm game not skype or MSN messanger
Again, this is osu!, this isn't every other game out there, you have a multitude of ways to let others know that you're not availaible, like the /away status, the user panel, ultimately you could tell people in #spectator or something. At most i'd think a welcome message in #spectator showing your /away message if it exists is a better idea.Aqo wrote:
What's wrong with osu!chat having chat features that every modern game has by now, especially if people find this useful
I'd like to know what game you play. We already have /afk + message and automatic Afk, Idle, Playing, etc.Aqo wrote:

Just give us options like "Practicing", "Not Serious", "Setting Scores", "Warmup" if you don't want to let users write manual choices altho manual would really be better.Renard wrote:
I think it would be useful if people could put a status behind their name at manual choice
It's not always about "Neccessary" it's a fun thing and it won't hurt the game.Stefan wrote:
Not neccessary at all, but maybe it will be implemented.
Which is also true for like everything ever? It's not like people can't "abuse" avatars either with nsfw images. If you don't post on the forums you can have a nsfw avatar forever and never get caught. This is not a reason to not bring up a feature that many people would find useful.Cloudio-san wrote:
But it could be abused with text that is not for 18 or less people.
You do get caught even if you don't play/post in forums.Aqo wrote:

Almost every single person I know would have a lot of use for this feature and would use this all the time.

I really want this to happen. I think it's much more informative to set a custom status instead of afk/idle. osu's definition of AFK is hardly inaccurate. Most AFK people will become active if you message them. /away is inconvenient to use, and is not well known. you can't see someone's away status until you've already messaged them. I feel stupid trying to contact a player marked as AFK and they are actually AFK. It wastes time waiting for a player to respond that might be AFK.
This would all be solved if you could set your status to describe what you're doing. There could be a textbox somewhere or it could be activated via command.
Example
!status Watching youtubes, may not respond
!status bug testing
!status eating
Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but I may as well add in that this is a silly argument against as it's abusable in other ways already, as well that you're most commonly silenced for inappropriate behavior in public chats which this clearly wont affect at all.Sakura wrote:

So, why cant this be locked when you are muted like the "pm others, write in chat, change your userpage, submit a beatmap" ?boat wrote:

It'd be cool if this could be added, and it would appear when you open up a private PM dialog.
ie. if I were to type "/chat Users423", and he had a status in effect, upon opening the tab, it would automatically say "Status: Currently streaming, please don't PM!" or something.
