Am I too old to be posting questions here?

Have you faced the problem of only having audio files that has some small defects that you want to get rid of, and you can't find a perfect version anywhere?
I know I have and is desperate to get some answers.

How can the following objectives be achieved?
  1. Increasing overall volume of audio file
  2. Removing excess blankness (No sound at all) or unrelated noise at the very beginning or the very end
  3. Making short versions (e.g. authentic Taiko cut) from full versions that involves
    1. Simple removal of parts at the end
    2. More complicated removal of parts in the middle without destroying overall rhythm
I am currently able to use a free version of Audacity available online.
But if other software are applicable/required, please also include them.
For all objectives above I currently own audio files that may be used as example to make videos/screen caps. PM for transfer.

Oops I have missed some stickies that looks related and useful. Still I would like to ask for tips and such that those tgreads have not mentioned.
Final disclaimer: this thread is not simply asking for audio files be fixed, but for a comprehensive guide to fixing them oneself.
PS. If this thread gains enough solutions it might be turned into a how-to thread.

Well, I'm not an expert out there, but here's what I usually do:
I use Audacity as well.

1) Under the toolbar, Effect > Amplify. That should allow you to increase the overall volume. Audacity should automatically determine the maximum amplification you can do without clipping. (Loss of sound)

2) Just drag the part of the song you want to remove and press Delete on your keyboard.

3) a- Same as above, but you may want to use Fade Out particularly if after cutting, the song would sound as if it abruptly stopped. Drag the part of the song you want to fade out (usually a few seconds prior to the song stopping) and go to Effect > Fade Out.

b- I have no real method for this. I usually find the exact milliseconds of the beats (start and finish) the unneeded part of the song has and crop it there. I think there's a better way for doing this.

NoHitter basically said everything correctly.

If you want to do it with any other program, they will work in basically the exact way that NoHitter described (might want to try MP3DirectCut because it is lossless)

For 3b. I usually time the song first in osu!, and use it to find the exact ms I want to cut. You will have to ensure teh quality of the transition sadly, but if needed, you can form another timing section in osu! to compensate for timing.
