Hi. I'm a copyrights noob, so I was wondering how come osu! was allowed to include artist's material without any hassles whilst charging accepting support.

osu! also doesn't include any copyrighted material. Beatmaps containing copyrighted material are user-generated content and not officially packaged with the client.

actually I think the game client/website and the beatmap storage site (now mirrored across several sites) are hosted on different servers. In different countries. Or something like that
osu! is small enough that major companies don't actually care enough to bother with takedown notices. Now there have been a few songs (I think from some Hentai thing if I remember correctly) that have recieved a take down notice and peppy does comply with these takedown notices. If osu! does grow to a large amount there will, understandably, be more pressure to remove that song but until that point companies really don't care enough to bother with such a small website. (Yes, in the grand scheme of things 1.4 million players is actually pretty small)
