lol this might be annoying to read, but for me, ive been trying to open osu for the past 2 hours trying to get this to work before school lol. let me start off:
macbook specs:
Mac OS X 10.5.8
2.2ghz intel core 2 duo processor
memory 2gb
alright sorry about this but ill just tell you the past hours' events:
i downloaded osu for mac it wouldnt open, like other comments, the logo pops up and opens for like half a second, then i read about x11; i download x11, wait 5 minutes, it doesnt work. then i read Ephemeral's comment regarding:

There appears to be a problem with your X11 installation. Try installing XQuartz instead: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki/Releases
and i download the latest x11 for my version. its installation is a success and i put it on and it opens, then i try opening osu! but no difference, the logo pops up and i wait like 7 minutes, not working. haha sorry...

After downloading, copying to Applications folder, and attempting to run, application bounces in dock for a few seconds, then disappears. X11 never opened. Read a few replies to thread and attempted opening X11 beforehand and running, and still same outcome. Installed latest version of XQuartz for my version of OS.X and still encountered the same problem. Here is what appears in my console after attempting to run osu.app

My specifications are:

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
Memory: 1 GB
System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

OK, there is a problem with increasing speed of mouse. It goes to ramdom place whenever I click some where. (Using x4.0)
Other than that, it works okay. And their is a small problem when I play a fullscreen and make it native size. It became 16:9 instead of 16:10 for MacBookPro. but mouse works like usual fullscreen so I can't press the real bottom stuffs. Also Korean doesn't work. I don't really expect about that but just saying :)

My Mac is early 2011 MacBookPro 13inch.
2.3GHz Intel Core i5
8GB 133MHz Ram
Intel HD Graphics
and Mac OS X 10.7.3

Okay, never mind about full screen problem. Works fine after restart.
And their is no problem with random placed cursor when I use keyboard instead.

Let it be noted that the "alpha" Osu app does not work on the "beta" version of OSX Mountain Lion so dont update until patch otherwise you'll be f*cked like me.

Hi all, I downloaded this beta for OS X and i have a problem, the letters aren't shown, u can't see any writing like beatmap names or options. I add a pic if it helps. I'm using crossover games, by the way

i'm not 100% sure why it's doing that but try reinstalling osu or X11 or both and make sure you don't have OSX Mountain Lion

Here's a little present for those of you who are supporters: http://puu.sh/iQlX/osu!.app.zip
This is an updated version which should run a lot smoother. I have been using it on a daily basis to map/mod for osu!stream.
Map importing is still a bit flaky, but better than the previous build.

Keep in mind this uses the osu! test build, which requires a supporter tag. If you switch it back to non-test, you will not be able to connect to bancho or submit scores.

It should also work on Lion, and no longer require X11 to be installed.

that's for osu!supporters only and you can be one if you pay $4 for 1 month, $15 for 6 months, or $24 for 1 year click on community and supporting osu! to find out more

I already download the Osu!.app. I tried to open it, but it suddenly closed. Then i tried downloading again, but this time it stayed on the dock and the X11.app pops up. But still noting happen, then i download for the third time, it opens then shut down but the x11 pops up again and nothing happen.

I guess i could help porting it into mac. Since wine or other porting app or wrapper wont work 100%.

Wine wrapper will provide far more functionality with far less effort than other options. The recent version I posted does not have any dependencies and should definitely run for you.

The beatmaps I imported first work now but it won't add any more
though it said it did import it they do not show up on the list.
The new beatmaps are in the song folder, i hit f5, also tried fn f6 and refreshed it

hmmm....not exactly sure what to do but my only guess is keep refreshing it till it will sometimes that happens and if it still doesn't try deleting the maps you're trying to import then redownload them and see if that'll work if it doesn't i'm out of ideas

Okay, so I downloaded the App fine, but on launch, it immediately closes.
I have X11 installed. When checking Console.app, it says this:

"[0x0-0x3f03f].org.raeiphon.osu!wine[457] /Users/kristi/Desktop/Nick's Stuff/osu!.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 6: /Users/kristi/Desktop/Nick's: No such file or directory"

I'm on a 2.13 GHz MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo running Snow Leopard.


EDIT: Fixed the problem. It's seems the problem was "Nick's Stuff" and it viewed the space as the end of the line.

However, while running on a 1.83 GHz MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo, the screen would show up as white, but you could hear the music playing. I got the following error message in Console.app

"[0x0-0x1d71d7].org.raeiphon.osu!wine fixme:d3d:context_apply_blit_state Applying blit state for an offscreen target with ORM_FBO. This should be avoided."

This error was being sent at least 10 times a second. And repeated until the program and X11 was closed.

PLEAAASE help i wanna play osu again since my computer broke,i even tried havinh X11 while i open it!help plzzzzmy mac is a Mac osx 10.5.8 :(

What folder on your computer do you have it in? Try moving it to Desktop or Applications.
Check Console.app, which can be found in the Utilities folder in your Applications. Once launched, try launching psu! copy and paste the error message that comes up.

Hey i have a Mac and whenever i add new songs it always fails.....and so does my account! i cant log onto it in the game! i cant really provide screenshots...but i would like some help....i have spammed F5 but it doesnt help....i've restarted Osu

Wow, been wanting this so badly! When I registered in 2010 I tried experimenting with running some windows/boot stuff (wine?!) Never got it to work, and now it does, Awesome!!!!

do i have to install boot camp to be able to open osu! on my mac? cause now i don't have bootcamp, and everytime i click osu!, the icon just jumps once, stops and it never opens-_- please help?!?!?! :cry:

i don't know what you mean by bootcamp, but having x11 or xquartz so i've heard needs to be up when playing the game. and are you sure you don't have test build clicked by accident that can mess it up and if you go to settings and try to change some of the settings like fullscreen or mouse sensitivity that can mess you up. the only thing you can change is the special effects

You do not need boot camp. This version of osu! runs through Wine and X11.

When you download osu!, make sure it's in a place like Desktop or Applications. If you have it in any folder that has a space in it's name (Example: Shadow's stuff), osu! will not run. Once you have in in a good place, open it. It'll take a few minutes to load, so be patient.
It osu! still closes, open console.app (Found in /application/utilities) and then open osu! again. Copy and paste the error message that comes up.

go to contents then resources then wineprefix, then drive c then osu then to songs then you just drag the song file to the song folder open osu and refresh it

i could open osu and also import the songs but when i was playing it it was too slow! like if i had lag which is not possible because i cannot play online with mac so i went to option and there was an option of using another type of screen resolution and i changed it, it asked me to restart osu! which i did and know it won't open :S!

well i don't know and yeah it will be laggy, b ut catch the beat and taiko isn't so just bear witht those for the moment and you might just have to redownload it to play it again

Well I found the bug, but this might not the big problem.
After I can access online from mac OSX, I tried to chat with my friend.
There is no problem in English but when I use Korean, the typing doesn't work properly. TNX.
(Comparison of same typing from me & my friend.)

@^: Yeah that is one of the reason I don't use OS X ver. of osu! anymore... Cannot type Korean letters properly.

Amazing! It works almost perfectly on my Mac.
Just the FPS drops are a lot higher when using effects than on Windows. Also the offset is a bit weird, so I had to change that in the options.
But else, great work!

Hello to everyone. I just downloaded osu! (great game by the way) and i thought of sharing on installing osu and beatmaps the easy way or the most easy way at least for me. here it goes.

1 download osu! zip file from the downloads link.
2 extract the contents from the zip file and drop the osu! app on your desired destination. run (double click) osu! to start. osu should be running after patching etc. and will ask you to enter the user name and password. there it is osu! is installed.

Now to instal beatmaps I found it easier to just do the following.
download a beatmap form the beatmaps section. if downloaded using safari look for it on the downloads folder. once the file is located hold and drag it to the osu! icon (pink round osu!) this action will launch osu! and there you have it the new beatmap should be in the playlist. if not hit f5 key to refresh the playlist. note... make use to keep the original file extension osz. when dragging.

if you will still like to do it the explorer style follow the following.
right click on the osu! icon and choose show package contents click on it. next double click on the contents folder.
next double click resources folder next double click on the dosdevices folder. next double click on the c/ next osu! next and finally the songs folder.

hope it works as it did for me :D

Uhh, it's kinda hard to map like this, cannot edit timing sections.
I guess this is known issue already?

(Well and those hidden menus...)

When i change my mouse sensitivity higher or lower than 1.0 it makes my pointer stutter until i put it back. Happens with my Deathadder and just the trackpad on my macbook. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas i can try to fix this?

For the moment you will need to adjust your sensitivity in os x (or using the DPI selection on your mouse).

There is spikes (about 0.2 seconds every 2-3 seconds) when i play it :( And it is just horrible when you play a game like osu. :( I want to play! :cry:

Use hackintosh on intel core 2 duo

And one additional thing - when i pick OpenGL support instead of DirectX app crashes and did not start again! Help!

I can't offer support for non-apple hardware due to the unstable nature of drivers on OS X. Please use windows.

I tried using this with my macbook pro but when I added the .osz files into the "songs" folder, the songs didn't appear on the songs list.... :cry: I'm not sure if this is related to this problem but, the "drive_c" file is placed inside the "Resources" folder, and the "wineprefix" folder doesn't exist at all.... Any solutions?

Is it possible to open MP3 files to create beat maps? How?

I've also encountered an error when I want to switch from fullscreen to window mode. The screen goes beige. Here is the screenshot.

I've tried restarting osu, but it just reverts back to fullscreen and the same thing happens when I try to change it again.

Previously I had no problems with osu! on my Mac, but now the cursor freezes very often, and the game starts lagging.
No other programs are opened in the back, only osu!. I already use "low end pc". Is there a solution or not?

Nothing has changed here. Please try restarting your PC, closing other programs etc.

I experience bad lag when playing standard but not in ctb or taiko
I have tried low end pc and changing the sensitivity but nothing seems to help
I use X11 if that helps

Yes, you can!
All you have to do is locate inside the osu!.app these folders:

~/osu!/Contents/Resources/dosdevices/c//osu!/Songs

Just place your copy of the your .mp3 song in there, refresh your game a couple of times, go on Edit Mode, and it should work. :D

It's not working for me at all :( I add the MP3 to the songs folder and it doesn't work. I refresh the game 50 times and nothing happens. I restart osu! and nothing happens. I look in the folder and the file has disappeared.

EDIT : Nevermind, I got it working :)

I'm having success running it on my updated MacBook Pro(with Snow Leopard), though it does seem to lag a little bit when playing the songs. Thank you for creating this! It may be lagging, but it's better than nothing at all!

Make sure you set graphic options through settings and to try flicking the Frame Limiter option to see if that changes things any.

I play it on my Macbook too, and for people who can't get new Songs:
Try to delete a song, it always works for me. I download the songs, move them to the right folder,
start the game, close it and then delete a song. After that it works. Its pretty stupid and annyoing so I don't play
often on my mac, but this might be useful for you ;w;

Playing right now on my Mac OS X Lion, and it seems to have some mouse lag, nothing too bad, but definitely not the best. It may be my computer, but just thought I'd put this input in. Maybe just putting a lot of pressure on the computer! :P

Hit F5 at song select twice, and it should be better.

Yeah I lowered the framerate, it works better but still has those issues sometimes when moving from one side of the screen to the other, but most likely just a mouse issue in general :) Thanks for the input~

Also, is it normal to be default? For example, on the beatmap called "Ass up - Nightcore mix" it only shows this for the whole map http://imgur.com/pRMRn and it should show this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MR7zCPkt98o if I'm not mistaken. Is this normal or do I have to do something? :l
