Everyone seems to be forgetting Light667, he does hold the top american taiko player spot score wise right now, and he is a very good player.
Just hasen't been active for a bit lol.
Light, as much as I love him, is still not as good as Scarlet or Mark because I remember him only being good at certain things.
KYOUI might be a better fit for #5 than anyone, but im angry at him for ditching us at twc :v

I don't know about Light or Kyoui really, so I can't say who's better, never faced them off in Multiplayer either. Mark and I are pretty close in skill I think. He has better reading skill than me, but I beat his speed and acc constantly.
I'm guessing Light will probably win by a popularity vote honestly, because he's much more well known than any other player, as far as one deserving of #5.

KYOUI is more deserving of #5, but he doesn't really play anymore like Light, so I don't consider them as an option here

This is cool idea to have the top players of the year from US, perhaps you can work with peppy to find out who was actually the top 10 players for the US of the year, stats and score wise rather than it be a popularity contest ^^ I'm not saying anyone mentioned here are not good players, but I'm sure there's some hidden gems that could use some recognition as well! Personally the only american players that come off top of my head is Sapphireghost and Gecko, there's some others that I noticed that were very skilled players but has slipped my mind. Would be cool to work with peppy on this that way its more genuine

Well, I didn't mean by ranked score bud, perhaps the people in the US for the year with the most top 100 scores or something you know, nothing directly linked to their overall ranking (as we all know that's broken). All I'm saying is I'm sure there's some really skilled people that aren't blatantly obvious that could be worthy of spotlight as well (more so in standard), how to go about finding them is another concern. Maybe some sort of system could be built upon for finding these people 
That would be nice for a video of true skill
Though I like the current idea better cause I wouldn't wanna watch a video of a lot of players I don't recognize

The idea is still flawed as there might be people who get a lot of #1's (with FL or something) but are still worse in terms of skill when compared to insane people who DT songs no one else can. Or people who play absolutely insane HD+HR's.
for example Galvenize's Deep Space map on the [Another] difficulty: Flute got an fc with HR. He's #4 even if his score was clearly the most hardest to achieve and required the most skill.

Athena I have to ask, why does being a lesser known player make someone less deserving of being a top competitor?
