You don't use Saboteur? So you don't debuff strong enemies? Jeez. I was always using Saboteur in FFXIII. I think I used Com/Rav/Sab a lot. Sentinel's mostly just good for triple Sentinel, but man, that does work and is necessary for some attacks.
Saboteurs are kind of nerfed a bit, but still really nice if you do it right.
I would really advise having at least a double sentinel paradigm if you don't want to bring in a monster for triple sentinel. That way you can switch to it to mitigate the damage from serious attacks that might oneshot you otherwise.

Wait, so they nerfed Synergists AND Saboteurs? What the hell, man? It's not like they were even overpowered to begin with. Hope and Fang were the only overpowered things in that game.
Yeah, none of the two main characters are exceptional synergists (no offensive buffs), and they're both missing some saboteur skills like curse, fog and pain. Saboteurs are still great to use and effective, you're just kind of forced to use monsters in those roles if you want to do it completely right. And since you can only have three monsters active at a time, and you probably want to use other roles etc...
I haven't ever used a double SEN paradigm. Especially with some boss SEN monsters, you don't need more than one. I usually SEN when I need to switch to MED or SYN/SAB so I can keep the chain going.
Okay, I beat the game. Med/Med/Med helped a lot along with an OP Chichu.

I actually like the normal version of Ruined Hometown much more than the aggressive mix, but you never get to hear the aggressive mix in its entirety unless you do something weird like visit the menu when a mob shows up.

Well here's a good one. I went to Gamestop just now to get Darkness II, Kingdoms of Amalur, and the guide for the latter since that's probably a huge game. I was looking around and I didn't see the guide for KoA, so I asked if they had it and he said they got an email saying it had been delayed. What the fuck? So the guide is coming out in two weeks instead. By then the internet will probably have whipped up some stuff and I won't want the guide. I don't think I've ever seen that happen before.
Mm, I don't think Kingdoms of Amalur is the kind of game I'd really want a guide for personally, though I'm not really one to buy guides in the first place. Seemed like a simple enough game with not much going on behind the scenes.

I like maps, and I wanna know about any time-sensitive sidequests with awesome rewards or something. I wanna know if there are any special super awesome weapons to get that I might miss out on normally. Like in FFXII, you'd be screwed if you didn't know how to get that Zodiac Spear from the beginning of the game. But if I play the game and it turns out to be pretty simple to follow, then I'll just use the money I would've used to buy the guide and put it towards Asura's Wrath.
Where's the mystique, Selphie? That sense of discovering the unknown when venturing into a new game in which you know nothing about?

Finally finished Katamari Forever, so I guess I should probably get around to finishing off Valkyria Chronicles and Nier too.

Downloaded a bunch of demos to the xbox since they don't count towards my internet quota.
Played Amalur and made a dark elf guy with a fabulous moustache and played with some rogue/fighter skills with bonuses to mana. It's fun, but it seems to really need a lock on button because I kept harpooning the wrong guys. Stopped playing a little while into the timed part of the demo because I was pretty much sold on buying the game already.
Asura's Wrath is hilarious and I might just buy it when it's a bit cheaper. I was really expecting some sort of God of War clone, but it's good that it's its own thing.

Yeah, I wish it had a lock-on button, too. Even for non-projectile stuff, it'd be nice to circle strafe dudes.
That Asura's Wrath demo is what made me go from wanting to buy it eventually to wanting to pre-order it and get it on day one. That shit is outrageous. The chapter 11 one was crazy. That fucking sword, man. Awesome.

Just started playing a bit of Amalur. Got a few quests under my belt now. Fuck, this game is fun. Chakrams? Fuckin'...forget about it. They're awesome. And Hammers beat the shit out of people (and bears) so well. I love this shit. Although I fucking hate how they have white text with a white shadow underneath it. It just makes me feel like I have blurry vision. So annoying to read that. And I don't know why they called this Hard mode, because you could've fooled me.
Sazh DLC. 5 bucks. Shit, I think I'm obligated to throw that money down.

Sounds perfect to me. Those cutscenes are the reason I got the game, so it's good that there's a lot. The gameplay itself is so-so, but still pretty cool. Also, they did something different and outrageous, which is more than I can say for 98% of games these days. Creativity should definitely be rewarded. In any case, I can't play that game anyway until I beat Kingdoms of Amalur in a decade or so.
Making a game that is mostly cutscenes is not something I'd classify as good creativity.
Since the game isn't really much of a "game" than it is an anime box set with interactive segments inserted, I might wait a while for the price to drop before I pick it up.

So, what, Heavy Rain wasn't a good game? That game was awesome and it is nothing but an interactive movie. So I guess Asura's Wrath isn't that creative, since it just took what Heavy Rain did, cut out the bullshit, and made the interactive sections more fun. How horrible.

That's true. LA Noire and Phoenix Wright don't have great gameplay aspects, yet they're still great. God of War has good gameplay, but the cutscenes were more brutal than ridiculous. Bayonetta's the only game I can think of that has great gameplay and a lot of truly ridiculous cutscenes. The only thing that sucked about those cutscenes was the fact that there was a button press you had to do in a handful of cutscenes that would kill you if you missed it. They were random and stupid. At least in Asura's Wrath and God of War, you'd be stupid to not expect them.
Its not that I find the game bad (I was actually rather hyped when I watched the trailers). I just feel it would be justified for me to buy it when its cheaper since it can be finished within a weekend and there's not much replay value from what I hear. I mean, I live in Australia, prices for games can be ridiculous up to $89.99. Not to mention there's tons of other games I want to check out as well which recently came out. I'm still going to play it...just not at the moment.

Well, the Killzone 3 multiplayer is going to be free on the Playstation Store and I'm definitely going to get it! Sure, there is going to be a certain level ranking limit but I'll deal with it.

I never noticed this before, but awp's been updating his list of games on the first page.
Anyway, after a solid 18 days of nonstop playing, Kingdoms of Amalur is finally done. I'll probably never play a better western RPG than that, but that's not saying much. Also, for such a huge fucking game, it never froze once. And it never got old for me. I've moved onto Fear 2 cause I wanna see if it is, in fact, a scary game. So far, there's been too much boring FPS crap.
Anyway, after a solid 18 days of nonstop playing, Kingdoms of Amalur is finally done. I'll probably never play a better western RPG than that, but that's not saying much. Star Ocean 3 isn't anime enough to bother me, neither is Persona 3/4. If a game is difficult enough and/or enjoyable enough I can overlook a lot of things.
I think I liked 13 more than I liked 13-2, even though 13 was certainly a flawed game. 13-2 is also criminally short; it's hard for me to justify the purchase of a game that lasts less than 30 hours, especially considering my wkc2 save file has recently surpassed 2000 hours.

Ps3 is completely region free (starts burning with envy), and much fewer games this gen require the grinding of old, you must be very disappointed XD. Yea I'm weird... For some reason I just can't bring myself to love ME like others, I played through disc 1 of ME2 only

From what I've gathered after playing for about an hour, it's definitely better than the first game in a number of ways. Combat's much faster-paced and a bit more challenging, the skills are a lot less frustrating since it now just depends if you have enough AP to use it, dungeons are slightly more interesting, enemies are more creative and possibly a few other things.
Nepgear is adorable.
But yeah the two biggest things I noticed were the upgrade in environments and the music. It's at least decent now opposed to abysmal.
Also I quite like the use of the models in dialogue now, purely personal but seeing them move at 60 fps is something else.

I'm happy they're finally making a new Assassin's Creed game instead of remaking the same one. New traversal, new combat style, new free-running style, etc. And they're apparently ditching the castle defense thing they stuffed into Revelations, so that's nice. A bow and arrow will be cool to use. I wanna see what they mean when they say that momentum is a big part of combat now. It seems like it'll be less counter-based, so that's cool.
Edit: So yeah, I got really bored with Fear 2. Fighting the same fucking enemies with boring guns over and over just to get an occasional, not-even-scary pop-up... Trying out Bioshock. I don't know why I didn't like this game when I tried the demo, because I'm having fun with it.

Tower defense sucked, and spamming counter kills although cool as hell did get boring. Is it just me or is this franchise meant for a controller, playin on pc just doesn't feel the same, had to plug in my Xbox controller lol
For some reason I don't like bioshock as well... I think I've figured it out why, it's te time period, I don't really like anything set far into the future or bioshock's time period (modern yet ancient ala la noire)Seibei4211 wrote:

Wow, I only just found the game on the shelves among many other games that weren't in the New Releases section despite being a new release (Came out this Thursday).
From what I've gathered after playing for about an hour, it's definitely better than the first game in a number of ways. Combat's much faster-paced and a bit more challenging, the skills are a lot less frustrating since it now just depends if you have enough AP to use it, dungeons are slightly more interesting, enemies are more creative and possibly a few other things.
