Through the small window Echo could only see the darkness lit by a dim crescent moon. Echo had spent the last hour tossing and turning in his bed, unable to get the thought of assassins coming after him out of his mind. Just because he had logically deduced they wouldn't if they wanted to preserve their identities, that didn't mean they wouldn't do something utterly foolish and kill someone else - someone like him, who posed a great threat to them.
Turning to face the wall, Echo tried to empty his mind of this mess of a TV show. Try as he might, the events of the day shook him. He had tried his best to convince the villagers the best choice of action to take. Many of the things he had said were extremely valuable to the town if they wanted to survive. A certain quote sprang to mind:
Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
In them is fulfilled the prophecy:
You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
For this people's heart has become hardened;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Echo sighed and turned back around, trying to get into a more comfortable position.
And stared in shock at the knife hovering surgically over his face.
ばかな！俺を殺すはずがない！俺はいないときっと全ての人間が暗殺者に殺されたんだろ！He tried to scream, but a hand was firmly placed over his mouth to prevent him from making any noises. He struggled, but the assailant was too strong. It was then that Echo saw that this person was acting alone.
この人は暗殺者じゃない！A sudden movement of the blade caused the moonlight to reflect off it and into the assailant's face. Echo's eyes widened in horror as he realised who the person was and the the terrible misunderstanding that had occured. His eyes looked pleadingly at the attacker, trying to get him to stop.
The assailant relaxed his grip slightly and seemed to rethink his attack.
Then with a quick flip of the knife, the attacker sliced open Echo's throat and walked out, leaving Echo gurgling in his own blood, his lifeforce slowly seeping back into the planet.
みんな...
ごめんね...The killer never looked back.
シノビやろう...
