My first beatmap.

Sunslammer comes from Homestuck, a webcomic that involves a fusion of music, flash movies, and interactive walkthroughs. Homestuck tells the story of four teens trying to avoid an apocalyptic future, with various parodies of RPGs along the way. The musicians of Homestuck produce their music under the label What Pumpkin, which can be checked out here: http://whatpumpkin.com/. Sunslammer is a remix of Sunsetter by Toby "Radiation" Fox.

I had a go with your maps, and here's what I think (warning: it's a long list XD):

[General]
These are suggestions that apply to all the difficulties.
- Make sure that the kiai time is the same for all difficulties. Somehow, this is a must for the maps.
- Remove 'Homestuck' from the tags, and there is no need for commas between the tags.
- I think it's better if you can set custom colours for your notes, in the Colours tag in the Song Setup menu.
- There are a lot of distance spacing (distance between notes) and snapping (snapping of notes to grid) issues in your maps. I suggest that you use distance spacing and grid snap at least for the Easy and Normal maps, since beginners usually can't play notes that are spaced differently from each other. Also, try to use a grid level of 3 in the Grid Level tab under the View menu, so that you can place your notes more precisely and making it nice in the process.
- You can add hitsounds like claps and finishes to certain notes of the song (usually the 4th beat of a song with 4/4 time signature like yours), to give emphasis and rhythm to the song.

[Easy]

Try to make the combos shorter (like maybe 5 in a combo) for an Easy map.
Also, you might want to map this difficulty to the end of the song, for the sake of completeness.

Thank you kurohacker, that was very helpful! I completed the Easy and Normal suggestions. I was going to do Insane, but it’s 4:00 a.m. now so I’ll finish that up tomorrow.

[General]
These are suggestions that apply to all the difficulties.
- Make sure that the kiai time is the same for all difficulties. Somehow, this is a must for the maps. Okay, I made sure to make Kiai time start at 02:23:910 and end at 02:45:332 for all three difficulties.
- Remove 'Homestuck' from the tags, and there is no need for commas between the tags.
- I think it's better if you can set custom colours for your notes, in the Colours tag in the Song Setup menu. Didn’t even realize this was an option! Done.
- There are a lot of distance spacing (distance between notes) and snapping (snapping of notes to grid) issues in your maps. I suggest that you use distance spacing and grid snap at least for the Easy and Normal maps, since beginners usually can't play notes that are spaced differently from each other. Also, try to use a grid level of 3 in the Grid Level tab under the View menu, so that you can place your notes more precisely and making it nice in the process. That’s weird, I mapped all of the maps with distance snapping and grid snapping in place, but you’re right, there were some weird issues on the map. I tried fixing this up in Easy and Normal, hope I got them all.
- You can add hitsounds like claps and finishes to certain notes of the song (usually the 4th beat of a song with 4/4 time signature like yours), to give emphasis and rhythm to the song.

- Ohh nice skin just some stuff ~
- Cut the not necessary transparency in "go.png", "ready.png", "spinner-clear", "spinner-osu", spinner-spin"
- There is a very little tiny point right next to the head of the fruit-ryuuta, get rid of it
- The 2 little people on the spinner-metre shouldn't be there because when you are filling up the spinner-metre you're "filling them up too, just feels weird, sorry if you don't understand, to make it more simple, you don't need the 2 little people on the spinner-metre, just the metre. You can leave it like how it is if you don't understand or ask me to help you
- Fix the section-pass, the transparecy on the shirt look weird also it had a tiny point next to the face
- Is necessary for you to add a "hitcircle-overlay and a "approach-circle" also a "approach-spinnercircle"
- Ask me for any kind of help WITH THE SKIN if you want ~

Easy;
- Slider velocity is too much for Easy
- You have many spacing issues, please fix them, use distance snap of 0.7x and re-arranged ALL objects on the playfield, check that the spacing is correct on ALL the map
- Create a pattern with whistles and/or claps
- Linear sliders are BORING, please make them curved nice fun ones, linear sliders are fine but not on all the map

Fixed up the elements of the skin suggested by lovhim456, now working on lovhin456 and mebins suggestions. It'll probably take awhile now that spring break has ended. x_x

Today I fixed up the easy difficulty, which included a combination of modding from lovhin456 and Ayeen, as well as fixing up the storyboard. I will work on fixing up normal next. Big thanks to Ayeen for the hitcircle donation. :)

General;
- "Normal" preview time is different from other diffs Fixed.
- Use grid level 4 (most precise) for all diffs, or grid level 3 Okay.

Skin;
- Ohh nice skin just some stuff ~
- Cut the not necessary transparency in "go.png", "ready.png", "spinner-clear", "spinner-osu", spinner-spin" Fixed.
- There is a very little tiny point right next to the head of the fruit-ryuuta, get rid of it Fixed.
- The 2 little people on the spinner-metre shouldn't be there because when you are filling up the spinner-metre you're "filling them up too, just feels weird, sorry if you don't understand, to make it more simple, you don't need the 2 little people on the spinner-metre, just the metre. You can leave it like how it is if you don't understand or ask me to help you I kinda like them there, I think I’m going to keep them.
- Fix the section-pass, the transparecy on the shirt look weird also it had a tiny point next to the face Fixed.
- Is necessary for you to add a "hitcircle-overlay and a "approach-circle" also a "approach-spinnercircle"
- Ask me for any kind of help WITH THE SKIN if you want ~

Easy;
- Slider velocity is too much for Easy Changed to 1.10 velocity.

I think that 4/4 is correct so change Hard and Normal from 3/4 to 4/4.
(Press F6 then go to "Time Signature (affects metronome)" box and change)

From 02:11:069 to 02:21:784 - I suggest to add some timing points and to gradually change the hitsounds volume to fit to the song.

Made changes to Easy today, while making sure to make the hitsounds soft. I wanted to make the spaces between beats more than .7, but AIMod goes crazy and says there's a bunch of spacing issues if I do, even though distance snapping says it's fine. o_o

I should probably point out that my post won't be like the other posts here. Reason is, your map has some technical problems that need addressed before I'd feel comfortable looking at the actual gameplay.

Easy
01:04:212 (4) - something broke here. You have a "break" here. To fix it, grab this note: 01:05:927 (1), cut it, insert break time, right click to remove the break, then paste the note back where it was. Remove the new combo from the note after it.
01:21:355 (3) - same thing here. I'd claim to know how this happened, but I'd be lying.
01:10:426 (1) - and after this spinner. What did you do to cause all this?
01:36:784 (2) - no point in having the tiny break after this. If anything, the flashing arrows will throw people off.
01:40:212 (2) - and again... looks like this happened a bunch. Definitely get these worked out.

Didn't look very carefully but everything looked alright?

Hard
00:53:926 (1) - Did you change the timing recently? This section just feels snapped to nothing in particular. This was the point where I stopped playtesting and decided to look at the maps in the editor. (I picked this difficulty first by the way) A lot of the map seems the same way. Make sure everything is snapped how you want it to be.

1. Double-click the first note (slider at 00:05:927) to select it and jump to its point on the timeline.
2. Select all notes (ctrl+A).
3. Cut then paste. This seems to fix it.

You still have a couple rogue "breaks". I thought of a better way to fix it though...
1. Double-click the first note (slider at 00:05:927) to select it and jump to its point on the timeline.
2. Select all notes (ctrl+A).
3. Cut then paste. This seems to fix it. Fixed.

On the whole, the number of bounces on a lot of the sliders seems kind of arbitrary. There were many spots where I actually had to pay attention to approach circles because it wasn't obvious how many times a slider would repeat. Unless you really want me to, I'm not going to go through and list these... just playtest some and see what you think. If you think they're fine, leaving them is probably fine.

[Easy]

Slider velocity is still too high for Easy. 0.90 would be ok I think. Be warned: if you do this, it will require a lot of reworking of the map.

As per request from mod queue~

I had to say, I think this mod is quite intrusive. Feel free not to follow them if they're not satisfactory.

[General]
- Love those custom skins, even though some are pixelated. (Combo bursts look much smoother)
- Irregular hitsounds. In some section, hitsounds are different for all 3 difficulties without any reason, even if they're with same/similar set of beats. Example: 00:24:784 to 00:26:498.(Different whistle pattern on Easy/Normal, while finishes on Hard). I've attached a sample hitsounds only .osu for reference, with extra addition of bass-dry.wav as soft-whistle2 taken from Custom Hitsound Library. Not the best custom hitsound addition but it should show how I intended to enhance the music with the hitsound emphasis. Should be quite compatible with your beatmap sets except for cases like much lesser beats, different mapping style, spinner length allowed. I'm using soft custom 2 so it won't interfere with your map in anyway, just delete them if you don't feel like using them.
- Avoid hitsounding sliders by just selecting them as a whole. Try to maintain a habit of hitsounding by selecting the desired slider point(Click twice on the slider point. First click selects the slider - whole slider highlighted by blue shade, while second click selects the desired slider point - slider point highlighted by red circle). It's better since some hitsounds(normal whistle for example) will affect the slider slide's sound effect, and you're not forced to have the same hitsound for both slider point.

  1. The mp3 sounds too quiet relative to the hitsounds. Either make them quieter, or the mp3 louder.
  2. I don't see the point of the extra custom hitsounds but ok.

  2. Excitement please? Easy feels a little bland.
  3. Follow the other guys, I'm not as reliable as of this mod. (except the General stuff)
  4. Your structure is ok, but there are some minor overlaps and misplacements. Eh.

A big thanks to Soul-less for the hitsound sample; hitsounds were definitely one of the biggest problems I was having. I was able to fix hitsounds in all difficulties so now it has a consistent pattern. I also remapped parts of Easy since it was way too empty and definitely needed some more notes.
